Chapter 59 Jealous
Chapter 59 Jealous
"When I first came in, I saw a shadow flash past the window. At first, I thought I was seeing things, but check this out," the man said, leading everyone to the window. "There's a footprint here, proving that what I saw wasn't just my imagination. Someone really did run out from here, and that person is probably who you're looking for."
Killian followed his lead, examining the windowsill closely.
Sure enough, there were two footprints with traces of dirt.
His gaze slowly swept around the room before finally landing on Lila's face.
"You're pretty nervous, aren't you?" he asked, his tone heavy with implication.
Lila's hands, which were holding his, were slick with sweat.
She quickly shook her head. "No, I'm just scared. I'm afraid you'll go after the culprit and leave me here alone. You know how girls can be, always so timid."
"Don't worry, I won't leave," Killian reassured her.
Lila breathed a sigh of relief, but Killian's next words made her heart skip a beat. "Because the person I'm looking for is right here!"
Her hands trembled involuntarily, and her eyes darted around in panic.
She was on the verge of losing it.
How did he know that? Could he really have figured it out?
She swallowed hard and played dumb. "Honey, who are you looking for?"
Killian's eyes bore into hers, filled with a knowing look. "You should know better than I do."
Lila shook her head vigorously.
Killian let out a cold laugh. "I'm looking for the top international hacker who used this computer earlier. She made $30 billion of my company's stock disappear in fifteen minutes. What do you think will happen to her if I catch her?"
For some reason, Lila felt that Killian was intentionally or unintentionally looking at her as he spoke.
Lila continued to shake her head.
"You'll find out soon enough," Killian said, then issued an order. "Lock the door. From now on, no one leaves this room!"
"Yes, sir!"
All the male attendants were herded into a corner.
Killian whispered something to Charles, and soon the black-suited bodyguards approached the male attendants, ordering them to take off their shoes.
The men had no idea why they were being asked to remove their shoes, but this was Killian's place, and no one dared to disobey his orders.
"Mr. Hart! Just as you suspected!" a bodyguard shouted.
"Grab him!" Killian commanded.
Two men stepped forward and restrained a young man with a good build, bringing him before Killian.
"Mr. Hart, why are you having them grab me?" Jason Miller, who had no chance to escape when Killian sealed off the room, had disguised himself with a human skin mask and blended in with the crowd after arranging six male attendants for Lila.
He couldn't believe he was caught so quickly.
Out of all the people here, he was the one who got caught.
Besides fear, Jason felt a surge of admiration.
He had never admired anyone in his life, except for Lila.
Now, there was another—Killian.
"You attacked my company half an hour ago. Why do you think I'm grabbing you?" Killian asked, his voice cold and steady.
"Mr. Hart, you must be mistaken. I don't know anything about hacking. I'm just..." Jason stammered, trying to sound convincing.
Killian kicked a shoe with dirt on it towards Jason. "Here's your evidence."
Jason had weathered many storms, tried to stay calm despite his fear. "No way. Do you think the footprint on the windowsill is mine? Mr. Hart, I swear on the life of the woman I respect most that the footprint has nothing to do with me!"
"Then her life isn't worth much," Killian retorted sharply.
Lila couldn't help but sneeze.
She glared at Jason, who was practically cursing her to an early grave right in front of her. Jason deliberately looked away, avoiding Lila's murderous gaze. "Really, the dirt on my shoes is from the flowerbed downstairs. I accidentally stepped in it. So, I guess the person who escaped must have picked up the same dirt, leaving the footprint behind."
Killian didn't waste any more words. "The flowerbed downstairs uses common peat and nutrient soil, mostly black. But your shoes have red soil, which only appears in tropical and subtropical regions."
Killian's half-sentence made Jason's heart skip a beat.
"Such expensive soil wouldn't be in a cheap flowerbed. But the potted plants in this room have this special soil. You, with nowhere to run, tried to create a false escape by stepping in the soil from the corner plant. Am I right?"
Not only was he right, but Lila also suspected there were hidden cameras in the room.
Killian must have watched her entire crime process before coming in to confront her.
Worse, Killian's eyes were on her even as he spoke to Jason.
Lila, caught off guard, clapped her hands. "Honey, you're amazing!"
She clapped while signaling Jason to run.
"That bastard is trying to escape!" a bodyguard shouted.
Jason turned swiftly, aiming for the door, but it was surrounded by six bodyguards.
With no other choice, he headed for the window, where Killian stood.
Having witnessed Killian's intelligence and insight, Jason doubted he could match him in a fight.
The only way out was to jump or die.
Jason had no choice.
But to his despair, Killian was not only knowledgeable but also physically formidable.
As Killian was about to pin him against the wall, Lila screamed from the sofa.
"Help, honey!"
Killian immediately stopped, concerned for Lila's safety.
Jason seized the moment and leaped out the second-floor window.
