Chapter 55 Tired of Living
Chapter 55 Tired of Living
Upon hearing this, Killian smirked sarcastically, trying to pull Lila into his arms, but she pushed him away.
"This is the office. Do you want me to cause even more trouble? You have no idea how your employees looked at me when I walked in. I've never been given such dirty looks before."
This whole mess started because of Lila, but judging by the current situation, it seemed like Killian was the one at fault.
A hint of displeasure appeared on his face.
"They're just a bunch of gossipers swayed by online rumors. Don't take it to heart. I'll resolve this matter as soon as possible."
Lila knew when to back down.
Many issues needed to be addressed.
"Don't stress too much about the company's problems. I've already thought of a solution. I'm pretty sure Phelan hired someone to take those photos. Otherwise, how could they have been taken so close without me noticing?"
Lila was stating the facts.
When Lila and Phelan were talking at the hotel, there was no one else around.
Their instincts as professional assassins were exceptionally sharp; if anyone had approached, they would have noticed.
The only possibility was that Phelan had taken the video himself.
He wanted to use it to manipulate Lila.
But he didn't realize that Lila knew far more than he did.
"What solution do you have?" Killian asked, puzzled.
"You might not know, but Calanthe contacted me after the online rumors started. And I discovered a shocking secret about her."
Killian wasn't interested in gossip about other women. He held Lila with a hint of warning and punishment.
"Do whatever you need to do. My company will be your strong support. If you can't handle it alone, you can contact a PR firm. They're experts in this field."
Lila rarely didn't argued and nodded obediently.
"Then I won't disturb you. I have things to do, so I'll head out."
Killian didn't say anything watching she left the office.
Lila didn't see the flash of excitement on Killian's face, like a hunter whose prey had taken the bait.
Lila left the Hart Family building and didn't return to the villa.
Instead, she walked into a nearby alley and called for a car.
She headed to the same underground bar as last time.
In broad daylight, the place was empty, with only the bored bartender sitting at the counter.
Hearing the doorbell ring, he looked up and saw Lila.
Lila knew this bartender; he was the world-class hacker who had helped her last time.
It was surprising that someone with such a background would willingly work in a bar.
Who knew what he was thinking?
"Long time no see. You owe me a big favor for helping you last time. How do you plan to repay me? Let me think, how about with your body?"
Lila casually picked up a card from the table and threw it at the bartender.
An ordinary card, in Lila's hand, flew out like a sharp blade.
The man tilted his head, and the card hit the wall with a loud smack, showing the force behind it.
"Shut your filthy mouth. If you want, I can repay you with my life."
"Your temper is as fiery as ever. I wonder which man can tame you. Marrying you would be like hitting the jackpot. I don't understand why Phelan is so obsessed with you."
"Where is he? Tell him to get out of here and face me."
As they spoke, the doorbell rang again, and a tall, handsome man walked in.
It was none other than the culprit, Phelan.
"You dare to show up? Aren't you afraid I'll take your life?" Lila snapped.
Phelan's lips curled into a charming smile. "My heart and my life are yours. You can take them anytime."
Lila felt a wave of disgust. "Did you make that video? Do you need to expose me to the public to be satisfied?"
"You really don't understand my good intentions. With your own abilities, when would you ever complete the mission? I'm a top influencer. Look at how you've become a household name by leveraging my fame."
Lila gritted her teeth. "Thanks a lot."
"You're welcome."
Lila didn't want to waste any more time with him. "When can I finish this mission? If I kill him tonight, can I return to the organization and get the chip removed tomorrow?"
Phelan looked at Lila with amusement.
No wonder Killian found her so special.
She truly had the power to captivate.
"What are you talking about? The organization has already said that the mission isn't just about killing him. The boss wants the entire Hart Enterprises. Your job is to be a perfect femme fatale. Just keep weakening his resolve and making him obsessed with you. You don't need to worry about the rest."
What kind of mission was this? She was a world-class assassin.
Such a task didn't require her skills; it was like using a big gun for a small job.
"I don't care. I want to finish this mission as soon as possible. Tell the organization. I've been working for them for years. I want out."
Phelan took a few steps forward, his subtle scent alluring. "Don't rush, Lila. One last time, you need a perfect finale."
Lila left the underground bar feeling dejected.
For now, she had no way to deal with Phelan.
What was supposed to be a simple mission, just killing Killian, had escalated to this point.
Not only could she not kill Killian now, but she also had to appear in public.
Lila knew that, as a dark web assassin, how many could retire successfully?
Most of them died before completing their last mission or succumbed to sudden illnesses.
They knew too many secrets, and only dead men were truly safe.
But Lila had always known she would leave one day.
She deliberately avoided some secrets, hoping to make her departure from the organization easier.
Now it seemed they planned to expose her to the world.
Becoming a public figure meant cutting off her path as an assassin.
In the black Maybach.
Killian had two driver's licenses beside him, one of them belonging to Lila.
"Where is she?" he demanded.
Charles, in the passenger seat, answered awkwardly, "Just now..."
"She didn't get in the car?"
Charles muttered to himself, "You just realized?"
He didn't dare look at Killian. "Yes... It seems so."
"Find her immediately."
"But I'm not sure of Miss Voss's exact location right now."
Even after working for Killian for many years, Charles couldn't figure out what Killian was thinking.
"Do I need to teach you how to find someone in Vesperhaven?"
The car's confined space made Killian's words even more intimidating, prompting Charles to quickly pull out his phone to search.
"Mr. Hart, I'll find her right away!"
