ON the day Steve’s wife left for America, as he was taking the mother and daughter to the airport. Always be careful there, Honey. You know, I’m not by your side.” Steve reminded Lisa as he hugged her.
“Don’t worry, Honey. I’ll be really careful. Then I’ll call you every day. “
“Good, so I know what’s going on with you. If you need important help, just tell me. I will fly immediately.
When the airline calls their passengers, “Hija, let’s go.” Lisa’s mother said, and she had already walked towards to immigration.
“Honey, bye. See you soon. “ Lisa kisses her husband. And quickly let go of him to follow the mother.
Steve didn’t do anything; he just watched his wife walk away from him when he realized that his wife was never going to hug her for a long time. “Honey, take care!” he said loudly, so he could hear it.
Lisa turned to her husband. “I love you, honey!” She shouted, then it waved.
“I love you too, honey!” He also waved at the wife.
When his wife was out of his sight, Steve left the airport. He went straight to his office. He was lethargic as he entered the building. They just saw each other just now. But he missed her right away. He also knew they would not see each other for a long time. They will meet via video call, but he will not be able to hug or kiss her.
“Steve? “Someone yelled out his name, but he didn’t hear it and wasn’t aware of its approach because he was deep in thought about his wife.”Hello! So, what up?” He slightly elbowed the person he was talking to
“Huh? Larry?” Steve asked as he peered at the guest.
“What’s the matter? Do you have a problem? Every time we see or are together, you think about someone else. Where did it end up? Don’t tell me about another woman, huh?”
“No, Larry, I’m not looking for another woman. My wife has everything, and she’s already perfect for me.”
“Oh yeah, I’m jealous you know. “
“So, you must get married too, Larry. You’re getting older, you know. “
“Sure, when I meet the woman that I deserve, Steve.
When they reached Steve’s office, they sat on the couch.”What about us, Larry?” Steve ask him right away.
“I’m not going to wander around anymore, Steve. I’d like you to handle our condominium project. “
Steve stared at Larry. “Why are you getting married?”
Larry laughed. Married? I don’t have a girlfriend yet, eh. I wish I could meet the woman that I’m going to marry soon, Steve.”
“By the way, why do you say I will be in full charge of your project, Larry?
“My mum called me and put on a show for me. She expressed her deep longing for me. She was in a hurry to meet with me. I can’t say no to her, you know. She’s getting on in years. If you don’t give her what she wants, she’ll sullen like a child.
Steve gave a kind grin. He’s well aware of the situation. That was also done by his mother. It was fortunate that she changed after he married. “Tita, when are you coming?”
“Before I leave, I’ll take care of the things I need to do, Steve.”
“It’s like you’re going to be gone for a long time, ah. Eh, you’re just going to visit your family, Larry.
“Who knows, I might meet the woman who will make my heart beat. You know, I’ll be courting her first so I can get her sweet yes.”
Steve laughed when Larry said that he would court the woman he was going to marry first.”Is that courting a woman still exists today, Larry? I think it isn’t, just take her number, it’s okay already, right?” Yeah, they were always like that before. When he had never met his wife Lisa.
“Let’s see, Steve. Oh, he’s still going somewhere. Before I leave, I’ll pass you the ones you should need for the project, okay.”
“All right, Larry, be careful; I hope you and your wife will be safe when you return to the Philippines.”
Larry made a funny noise. What Steve said.”Right away, Steve, if you’re excited, I’m even more excited. Bye,” he said as he stood up and walked away.
Steve and Lisa exclusively communicated via video conversations over of several days and weeks. Steve’s mouth coming out is, Eternal miss you. Yes, he misses his wife terribly, especially at night when he needs her warmth. When he feels this way, he takes a shower to soothe the scorching sensation.
The sound of the telephone in the living room made Steve dizzy early in the morning. He fidgeted with his phone, trying to figure out what time it was. The ringing stopped. “What? So, who is the person who wants to call at this time?” He averted his gaze, but the phone rang again.”Ahhh, who is that?” he said as he stood up and walked out of his room into the living area. He took the phone in his hand. Who is this, exactly? Can’t you call when the sun comes up instead of so early?” He answered, but he continued to yawn.
“He-hello, Steve!” Lisa’s mother suddenly cried on the other line.
Steve wondered why she was crying. “Mommy, what happened? Why are you crying? Something wrong? “ Suddenly, he felt nervous.
“S… Steve, Li… Li…” she said, interrupted by crying.
Her nervousness was replaced by Steve’s throbbing chest. Mommy, what do you mean? What does Li tell me? What are you trying to say?”
“Steve, sh… she’s dead! Lisa is dead now! “ The lady cried again.
“Wh… what?” He was weak at what he heard, and the phone he was holding was draping. He couldn’t think of anything. The only thing that sinks into his mind is that she’s dead. That means her wife is no longer alive.”NO!” He shouted and quickly picked up the phone. “Mommy, Mommy, what do you mean?”
On the other end of the line, Steve could hear his mother inlaw sobbing. “Steve, please accept my apologies!”
“MOMMY, WHO IS DEAD?” He said fiercely.
“Lisa, please accept my heartfelt condolences. Steve, he’s gone!” She’s sobbing once more.
“Mommy, tell me this is a prank or a joke that Lisa told you, because she always gave me a prank “Yes, the mother-in-law simply followed the daughter’s request that he believe it.
“No, Steve. It’s not a joke or a prank to say someone is dead. She’s my daughter.”
Steve feels his knees shaking as he sits on the floor. And his eyes get wet. “H-how? W-what… happened?” Steve’s voice was becoming raspy.
“I’m sorry. The accident happened while she was taking a taxi to the hospital to get me out. Steve!”
“Ahhh! “He shouted, then punched the floor. Even though his hands are blindingly still doing what he did, he can’t feel the pain. Because it hurts more to know that his wife is gone. “LISAAAA!” He kept punching the hard floor. “Why? Why? Come home alive, Honey! Come back, I need you. Don’t leave me like this. Ahhh! “Steve was crying so loudly. He didn’t know what to do.
For a moment, Steve was crying. He could not accept what his mother-in-law had told him. In an instant, just like that, his wife is gone.
“This is not true. Lisa Honey, you aren’t. I know you will be back. No, I need to see you.” He took his cell phone to book a ticket to follow his wife to United States.
