Chapter 101 A mistake?
ANGELICA'S POV
It was nighttime, exactly the fifth day since I told everyone about my plans.
Dylan and Ericson were a bit peculiar about it. Anyone would, but then I explained to them how it was important for me to do so, not because I had some kind of God complex but because those were my people and I was the only one who could do it.
I was the child of an angel, and my entry wasn't restricted anywhere.
Besides, I saw what the demon king was doing to my clan. How could I live my life freely when I was a target too?
I needed to do it now because later I might not be able to fight with my big belly at all; probably, by then the chances of the demon king attacking would be higher, since my child would've developed a heart too.
I couldn't be selfish like that witch Aurora, who built that energy sphere and has been destroying our clan for two decades.
And, wouldn't they have done something similar if it had come to their pack? When I reasoned it like that, they understood my duty to my coven.
Alchemist knew what kind of threat I was under and didn't oppose for long.
My mom and Ronaldo weren't happy at all. That was why we never told them the day when I would perform the ritual, which was today.
“Is the thread ready?” I asked Alchemist, who was weaving something on a stick.
He looked up and nodded briefly.
I noticed how a large circle was drawn in the clearing in the middle of the forest.
I raised my gaze to the sky and looked at the full moon, looking so beautiful and serene.
“It’s pretty. I just hope the ending today turns out to be pretty,” I whispered under my breath before taking a deep breath.
The star drawn on the ground had three centres, one for each one of us.
I looked at my mates, who nodded at me reassuringly.
When they heard that Alchemist was going to use a thread on my head that could be used to bring me back if something bad happened, they volunteered to sit inside the circle with me.
Alchemist warned that once they entered, no matter what happened around them, they wouldn't be allowed to exit.
Dylan and Ericson nodded to that too, and I smiled.
I was nervous. No lies. I didn't even know if this was the right decision. Cecilia wasn't sure about it either, but she definitely said, ‘If not now, I won't be able to do it ever.’ That was more than enough for me to try it.
“Don't be scared, little one. Mama will always protect you,” I said, placing my head on my abdomen before taking a deep breath.
The witches from my coven appeared, all dressed in black cloaks with their hands covered in white.
I smiled and nodded when they bowed to show me their support.
Then they turned and bowed to the alphas because they were risking their lives to help them with something that wasn't their duty.
Dylan and Ericson nodded at them before they walked to me and kissed my forehead one by one.
“We love you,” they said in sync.
“I love you two, too,” I whispered before holding their hands.
“Ready?” Alchemist asked, and I nodded.
He walked over to us and asked me to hold one end of the thread he had been weaving to make it thicker.
Then he wrapped the thread around each of Dylan's and Ericson's hands.
“Guys, remember. Once you go inside, there's no coming out. Even if you have to use the restroom, do it there only. The process’s duration depends on how quickly she is done,” Alchemist explained to them.
After all, I would be the only one going inside the portal that would be created once he chanted. These two would stay here, conscious, just watching.
“We know. Don't worry,” Dylan said, and then Alchemist signaled for us to enter the circle.
We did as he told us and sat in the circles drawn for us.
“Close your eyes,” Alchemist ordered, and we did as we were told.
He started chanting some kind of spell that I couldn't understand even for a second.
I kept my eyes shut, my heart drumming against my chest as I anticipated what would happen next.
Would I wake up in the demon kingdom directly? Would I need to walk there? Or would I need to find it? It was undecided, and Alchemist had warned me against it.
The swoosh of wind around my body, making me feel goosebumps, was a clear indication I was being teleported somewhere; just where, I didn't know.
After what felt like an eternity, I stopped feeling any connection with the wolves or that I was surrounded by anyone, and felt it was the right time to open my eyes.
I did, and to say I was surprised would be an understatement.
I was standing in an unknown realm, something completely out of my imagination despite having read the file about the demon kingdom countless times.
Skeletons of dead humans or other species hung casually, and it smelled like rotten flesh.
A river flowed on the side, and from the color of it, it definitely looked like the cursed Red River that the map had talked about.
I closed my eyes again and asked my powers to teleport me inside the demon kingdom, right where the king was.
Since Alchemist had helped me with a major part of it, using a bit of power for this was considered safe.
This time, when I opened my eyes, I was standing inside a large royal chamber.
There was a large bed on one side, double the size of a king bed, a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling, plush carpet on all the floors, and oak wood tables and desks around.
It screamed nothing less than royalty hierarchically. I swallowed hard as I looked at the variety of knives displayed on the side wall, all sharp enough to behead me with just one swing.
To say my insides were trembling would be an understatement. And before I could regret the decision of coming here, I felt someone's presence right behind me.
“Who are you? And what are you doing here?” I heard a deep voice.
My heart thumped loudly before I turned quickly with wide eyes.
The man was nothing as I had imagined from the shadow those witches had portrayed before me. The file has no mention of his real face. And to say he was good-looking would be like calling my alpha mates below average.
He was so beautiful. But something else caught my eye…
For a demon king who was known for his ruthlessness, his eyes were strangely empty, like he was sad, full of grief.
He looked at me, sensing no threat, probably because he knew he could kill me with a flicker of his fingers.
“I… I am Angelica Black Pearl, James’ daughter,” I said, not hiding my identity.
He arched his brows before nodding and walking past me.
His actions confused me. How could he be so unbothered? I am the same woman whose heart he was seeking, and I was standing right before him, but there was no emotion on his face.
He walked to his bed and put on his royal overcoat before looking at me.
“I didn't expect to meet you so soon. Would you like to have something?” He asked.
I scoffed at his fake chivalry and hospitality.
“What is this? Fattening the food before cutting and cooking it?” I asked.
He kept looking at me for quite a long time, his unwavering gaze making me a bit uncomfortable.
“Witty,” he said before he clapped his hand, and two maids walked inside the royal chamber.
“Prepare some dinner for my guest too,” he said.
The maids looked at me with wide eyes, not moving.
“Did you not hear me?” His voice brought them out of their thoughts, and they quickly scurried away.
“I take it as you guys don't expect many guests,” I said.
“Not the one who appears in their king's bedroom out of nowhere, no, we don't,” he said, his comment making my ears turn red from embarrassment.
“I am here for business,” I said, not wasting more time.
He nodded and asked me to sit on the sofa near the table.
I did before, looking straight into his eyes.
“Before I say what I am here for, can you tell me why you have been torturing the Black Coven? What did we ever do to you? You have been sucking them dry for decades,” I asked.
The man looked at me before chuckling darkly.
“Half knowledge is worse than no knowledge,” he said, and I furrowed my brows when the environment around us started changing, becoming darker, making me realize that the witches probably didn't tell me the entire truth, and coming here on impulse was a bad decision.
