Chapter 101 - Violet
Four hours easily passed, I had a paper mask on my face and was at least four glasses of champagne in when Simon and Jared walked into the room. Simon took one look at me and burst out laughing.
“What?” I looked at him.
“You both look like you are out of a horror movie.” He and Jared continued to laugh.
“Ugh.” Greta yelled as she tossed a pillow at them both.
Simon came and kissed me on top of my head. “How was your day?” His voice reverberated in my ear.
“Great.” I turned to him and raised my champagne glass. “I needed this.”
“Sometimes we girls need to have a moment away from you boys.” Greta said inspecting her nails.
“Don’t know what boys you are talking about; I only see men over here.” Simon said with a smirk.
“You love me don’t lie.” Jared said as he took a playful bite of her ear causing Greta to squeal.
“Fine!” She yelled. “Don’t mess up my nails. They are still wet.”
I pulled the face mask off and rubbed in the tonic that was left over. “How was your day?” I turned to Simon and watched him as he went to sit on the bed, taking off his shoes.
“Long.” He sighed. “I’m glad to see you. And that you are taking a moment to decompress.”
“It’s been a long time coming. I haven’t had a moment with Greta since I moved in.” I smiled at her. “We need to make this a regular occasion.”
“You bet your sexy ass we will.” She slapped my thigh, causing Simon’s eyebrows to rise. “I don’t know if you know this Si, but the Luna is one sexy piece of ass…especially in her dress for the ball.”
“Oh really. You got to see it?” He scratched his chin as if he was thinking.
“Yep, and it’s hot.” Greta said as she pulled the mask off her face and threw it onto the coffee table.
“Do I get a preview?”
“Not until the ball.” I said biting my lip.
“It’s tomorrow. It’s so close that it can’t really make a difference.” Simon gave me puppy dog eyes.
“You can wait.” I stood and walked over to him. “I want it to be a surprise.” I wrapped my arms around him and gave him a kiss.
“Fine.” He gave a sigh.
“And I’m assuming that Violet got to see your dress?” Jared said as he sat next to Greta on the sofa.
“Yep.” Greta responded.
“And do I get a preview?”
“Nope.”
“Is anyone else starving?” Simon looked around at each of us. I heard his stomach growl.
“I could eat.” Jared said.
“Me too.” Greta and I said at the same time, then laughed at each other.
“Great!” I could see that Simon was mind-linking someone from the kitchen.
I hope he doesn’t ask Stella. In the next twenty-four hours she is going to be the busiest she has ever been. Last I saw her she was in the kitchen yelling at someone to move faster. I would hate to interrupt her if she was still working. Even though I knew she would be. Tomorrow morning I’m going to go down and see if I can help in any way. I know she will refuse me, but I could at least try.
Within thirty minutes, the food was delivered to our door. It was an assortment of sandwiches and chips. I was glad it wasn’t something that would have taken more time. I didn’t want to put that added pressure on the kitchen staff.
We all grabbed a sandwich and a handful of chips and went to sit in the living area of the bedroom. Simon and Jared inhaled their sandwiches as Greta, and I took slow bites. We talked about how tomorrow was going to go and each time something came up I thought I wasn’t prepared for it; they would try to calm me down. The keep on reminding me it’s just a party, that it’s no big deal. But this was the first time in pack history that a Luna was going to be revealed and it was going to be a witch.
I sat next to Simon, quietly biting my bottom lip. Thinking about all of the outcomes that could happen tomorrow. If I was mentally prepared, I would be fine. Plus, I’m a strong witch that could take down a pack of wolves without even trying. There was nothing I should really be afraid of. But in the pit of my stomach, I could feel something was brewing. Whether it was my nerves or something else I wasn’t sure. But it really kicked me on my ass.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted.” Simon said, looking at Jared and Greta. He looked down at me, with a knowing stare. He was trying to get rid of them so I could get rest.
“See you tomorrow, Si.” Jared said, taking Simon’s que and walked out of the room.
“See you tomorrow, Vi. Let’s do hair and makeup tomorrow.” Greta said as she squeezed my shoulder and followed Jared out.
“Sounds good.” I smiled at them as they left. I took a deep breath.
Simon pulled me into his chest, and we just laid there for a few moments. “Everything is going to be fine.” He rubbed my shoulder.
“I know.”
“Nothing bad will happen to you while I’m there. You know that right?” He twisted his body to face me.
“I know.” I repeated.
“The other Alphas and Lunas like you.” He grabbed my chin and made me look at him. “They told me they love you. Tristan said and I quote, ‘it’s good to have a mate that can kick your ass, it keeps you in line.’”
I laughed. “Of course, he would say that.” I shook my head.
“They would have told their pack members by now what to expect and to be on their best behavior.” His eyes became serious. “I asked them to inform their pack about our situation and they were more than happy to do so.”
“You asked them to tell their packs? Why would you do that?” I pulled away from Simon and stood. “It’s like a parent asking the other parents of a class to be nice to the new kid.” I started pacing in front of the coffee table.
Simon let out a laugh. “It’s hardly like asking other parents to have their kids be nice.” Simon stood and walked over to where I was walking and stopped me. “First, I’m not your parent…thank god.” He stopped and gave me a sexy smirk.
I rolled my eyes at him.
“Second, even if you were wolf, we would let the other packs know so they were aware it was more than just a Yule Ball.”
My eyebrows shot up. “Really? Even if I was a wolf, they would let their packs know.”
“Yes. Since we are announcing you as Luna of our pack, we let the other packs know so they can support and give their blessings.” Simon shrugged.
“They have to give us their blessings?”
“It’s just a handshake to me and a hug to you. And if someone doesn’t like it, it doesn't matter. They aren’t part of our pack.”
He wrapped his arms around me.
“Anything else you left out of this Luna ceremony?” I pulled away to look him in the face.
“Nope, it’s simple.” He pulled me against his chest again. “And I already told you the other Alphas and Lunas like you, so they all will give their blessing. It’s already been set up.” He rubbed my back. “Breath.”
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. “Okay.”
“And if at any moment you want to leave you can. And if your dress is as sexy as Greta says it is, I’ll follow right after.”
I scoffed at him. “I couldn’t leave a party we are hosting.”
“Hell, yes you can. You can do whatever you want. You’re the Luna of the pack. If you need a moment, take a moment. Take ten if you need it. Don’t worry about the party.” He set his chin against my head. “Most of the guests are there for two reasons.” Simon pulled away and extended a finger. “First, they are there to get drunk.” He extended a second finger. “Second, to find a mate.”
I nodded at him.
“That’s why we do this every year. It helps pack members meet others that they wouldn’t normally meet and reveal potential mates. It strengthens the alliances across all packs.”
I nodded at him again.
He tilted his head at me. “Do you feel any better?”
“Yes.” Was all I could get out. I was still too absorbed in all the potential outcomes of tomorrow.
“Hey, that’s not very convincing.” He pulled me to him again. “By the end of it, you will be having a blast and wonder why you were so worried about it. I promise, wolf’s honor.”
I laughed at that.
I pulled away from him. “Thank you. I know I’ve been crazy these last few weeks. It’s just a lot.”
“I’m sorry that you had to do this as soon as you joined our pack.” He gave me a smile. “Just think about it, you won’t have to plan another Yule Ball for another four years.”
I laughed again. “Very true. But I think Tiffany is upset because this is my first time, and I am outdoing her last party.”
“Oh, trust me. That’s going to be a fire under her ass to up her game when it’s her turn again.”
I let out a yawn.
“Ok, my Luna.” He put his hands on my shoulders and turned me toward the bed. “It’s time for bed.”
I tried to turn back. “I need to clean up first.”
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll clean it up.”
I stared at him with a serious face. “You’re just going to leave it for the housekeeping to clean up aren’t you.”
“Maybe. But you don’t have to worry about that.” He turned me and smacked my ass. “Get that sexy ass into bed. Tomorrow is a big day.”
I tried to protest, but it was interrupted by a yawn. “Okay.” I climbed into bed and laid down. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
