Chapter 60

“So, Ryleigh, we were all talking and with finding out you are my daughter. We want to invite you and Jax to come live here so we could have more time to build our family. Plus, I want to be there when you have the baby.”

I looked at Jax who seemed uncomfortable, but I liked the idea.

“If we stay in the kingdom we wouldn’t be surrounded with negativity. We could have a fresh start away from all exes and lovers. They have room here and I want to do it.”

But with my being excited about it didn’t mean he was. He got up from the chair and walked outside. Everyone was confused and so was I.

“I will be right back.”

I got up and joined him outside. He was staring at the common area with his hands in his pockets. Why is this such a big deal for him since he was the one who wants me to feel secure?

“Ryleigh, I know you’re going to give me some speech as to why this is a good idea, but I will be leaving my family to come here. I don’t want to drop my entire life and everything I know because you’re worried I am going to cheat again when I told you I’d prove I wouldn’t.”

I was taken aback by what he said. I was now angry that he could say such a thing. Am I worried? Yes, but this is not the reason I want to come here. I have a chance to build a relationship with my father and I want to take it.

“Classic Jax. You say one thing, but you don’t mean it. I’ve spent my entire life having a man decide my fate. What I do, who I do, how I do. So, for the first time, I am not going to fight you. I am going to stay here at the Kangston pack. If you don’t want to that’s okay you don’t have to, but I am not following you. I’ve done more than enough for everyone but myself. So, for the first time, I am going to let everyone take care of me.”

He turned around to find just a hint of bluff in me, but I was serious. This entire time since I found Alizac it’s always been about a man. Growing up and discovering things about myself that I needed to. I’ve been lied to, degraded, cheated on, second best, and hurt by a man and I keep allowing it. Not to mention it’s a never-ending cycle that goes back and forth giving me unbelievable whiplash. Being with someone should not be this damn difficult. So no, I won't back down like I usually do. It’s about time someone fought for me.

“You’re having my baby. You’re not going to take that from me Ryleigh. I want to be there. Let’s just go home and we will figure it out.”

Deflecting. I guess he will always find a way to get out of a mess. Alizac is the same way and he’s no different. Sometimes love is love that let's go. I took a step back from him.

“Be careful on your way home. I guess I will see you when the baby is born.”

I had to walk away for the sake of the future. Because I never needed a man to tell me I am enough even though I worked so hard for the validation. He didn’t want to meet me half ways or see anything from my point of view. From here I needed to focus on myself and the relationship with my family and the raising of my baby.

“Can you stop trying to runway when things get bad? Are you really choosing your Dad over our family?”

He reached for me, but I again took a step back.

“No. I am choosing me over you. Goodbye Jax.”

And just like I walked away from him. It took some time to realize that it’s expected to end with your mate. But my mate and I could never see eye to eye. It was no trust and ultimatums. We couldn’t last a few days without fighting. I walked into the house and for the first time, I wasn’t crying. I knew I’d have to see him eventually but us not working was a relief. A relationship shouldn’t be built on what we built. It didn’t build very high before we demolished it. I wasn’t any good for him and he wasn’t any good for me.

The next few days passed, and I had not seen or heard from Jax. He stopped fighting. I didn’t expect that, but he did, and I am okay. I knew it was time for me to visit hell and now that I can’t fight in the war this would be the perfect time to do so. I got dressed and quickly went downstairs to where Vincent had cooked me some food to go.

“You look like you’re on a mission. Are you excited to take your throne?”

I just smiled and picked at the eggs he had given me but also made me want to throw up. Not because it was gross was because my baby wasn’t a big fan now.

“Yeah, I am happy to turn hell into a better place for the wicked. Which reminds me, I have to go. I don’t want to hear about the war. So, I will catch you when I get back. Have Athena link me if you need me.”

He walked around and placed a kiss on my temple and gave me a quick hug.

“Please be safe,” he said.

I walked outside and stripped my clothes off to shift into my now Devil wolf. I looked back to see my dad there smiling and seeing me off. I dug into the ground and opened the gates to hell. My everlasting beginning of the underworld was just starting.
