Chapter 692 You Should Also Think It Over Carefully

Caspian was caught off guard by the question. After a moment, he said apologetically, "Yes, I did upset her today."

Jessica kept a straight face and said irritably, "Why do you always make her angry? She's pregnant with your child, and you're still not satisfied?"

Caspian told her everything: "I don't always make her angry. At noon today, I brought her lunch. While eating, she threw up once. After eating, she said she was tired, so I took her to a hotel and got an hourly room. She looked really exhausted, so I let her sleep and didn't wake her. I asked for her afternoon off. When she woke up in the afternoon, she was pretty unhappy, but I already apologized to her and she forgave me."

"Jessica, Caspian treats our daughter really well. Such a small thing wouldn't cause morning sickness. I don't think it's Caspian's fault," Patrick said while putting a piece of meat on Caspian's plate. "You've worked hard, eat more."

"Thank you, but these are all things I should do. You don't need to say that," Caspian said humbly with a smile.

Jessica sat there, neither eating nor moving. Seeing how much her daughter had suffered from throwing up just now, she felt heartbroken as a mother. Her firm opposition began to waver a bit.

"Why aren't you eating? What's wrong?" Patrick asked Jessica.

Jessica snapped back to reality and said, "I've lost my appetite too. I'm going back to the room."

After Jessica left, Caspian asked Patrick, "Has her attitude softened at all?"

"Caspian, don't worry. She'll agree eventually. She won't hold out much longer. She'll compromise."

"You mean, seeing Wendy's morning sickness made her feel bad, right?"

"I think so. Let's wait and see. I'll keep trying to persuade her, and I'll let you know if there's any news."

"Thanks, Dad!"

"You're calling me that too soon!"

"It's fine, I've wanted to call you that for a while!"

After dinner, Caspian cleaned up the kitchen and went back to the room.

"Feeling any better?" He sat down and gently touched his forehead to hers.

Wendy said, "I feel much better when I don't eat, but now I'm a bit hungry."

"Should I make you some pasta? How about seafood pasta?"

"Never mind, I'll just eat when I get home."

Caspian put his arm around her shoulders, thought for a moment, and said, "Honey, are you nervous about coming back because you're afraid of arguing with Mom?"

"A little," Wendy admitted. "I'm just scared that when we come back, she'll make sarcastic comments, or get upset and hit you again, and things will end badly. Actually, I really miss them both."

"Honey, this is really hard on you," Caspian said with concern. "So you're highly stressed, and that's why you're having morning sickness."

"Really? That's related too?"

"Of course it is," Caspian said. "Don't be nervous anymore. Look, Mom didn't say anything today. I think gradually, Mom will accept us too."

Wendy said wistfully, "Stop dreaming. How could she possibly!"

After resting for a while longer, Wendy felt better and wanted to go home.

Coming out of the room, Caspian knocked on Patrick and Jessica's door and said, "Mr. Lewis, Mrs. Lewis, it's getting late. Wendy and I are heading home now."

Patrick opened the door and came out, saying, "Leaving so soon? Wait a moment. Your mom and I made some chicken pot pie earlier. We specially froze some for you to take home."

Wendy loved her parents' chicken pot pie and would always eat a big plate of it. Honestly, when she was living at Caspian's house, she really craved it, but neither Kenna nor Opal could make it taste like her parents' version.

Parents really understand their children—they know what she loves to eat and what she's craving.

"Go on home. Keep your spirits up, and the morning sickness won't be so bad. When I have time, I'll come visit you," Patrick said to his daughter with a smile.

Wendy nodded and looked into the room. Jessica was lying on the bed with her back turned. Wendy's lips moved, but in the end, she said nothing and left with Caspian.

Patrick walked them to the community gate, then slowly made his way back.

Jessica was sitting on the sofa. Hearing the door, she turned and asked, "They left?"

"Yeah, they left." Patrick seemed to be in a good mood, humming a tune as he sat down next to her. He smiled and said, "You know, Caspian is really thoughtful. Right before getting in the car, he insisted on giving me two thousand dollars and told me to spend it. Here, I'm turning it over to you." He finished speaking and put the money on the coffee table.

Jessica glanced at the money and said sarcastically, "Two thousand dollars bought you over? Have you never seen money before? I don't want this money. Don't give it to me. If you feel comfortable spending it, then you spend it!"

Patrick said, "I didn't steal or rob this money. My daughter's husband gave it to me. Why wouldn't I feel comfortable? Even better if you don't want it—I'll keep it and spend it." He picked the money back up from the coffee table and put it in his pocket.

He continued, "I'm not showing off to you. I just want you to know that Caspian is a decent kid. I'm not speaking up for him because of these two thousand dollars. Looking at the details, I've noticed he really cares about Wendy."

"What's the use of caring now? You have to look at the long term! With his behavior, and I'm not praising him here, give it three years tops. Only you and Wendy think highly of him."

"Jessica, think about it. Don't forget how he took care of you when you were sick in the hospital. Now you're talking about him like this—isn't that a bit unfair?"

Jessica said, "Things were different then. I just remember what he looked like when he got drunk while staying at our house. Every time I think about it, I worry Wendy will suffer with him!"

"Let's not bring up the past," Patrick said, seeing she was getting angry again and changing the subject. "Wendy's morning sickness is really a problem. The girl is already thin. She needs to eat more during pregnancy, but with all this throwing up, her body can't take it."

"All this throwing up—" Jessica didn't finish what she was going to say.

She had wanted to say, with all this throwing up, maybe she shouldn't keep this baby. But when the words came to her lips, she somehow couldn't say them.

"Didn't I say to have her take medicine to regulate her body? Have Angela take a look at her," Jessica said.

Patrick shook his head and said, "Medicine is always somewhat toxic. She shouldn't take it lightly. Didn't you hear Caspian say that before, Wendy could eat and sleep well, and was in really good shape? How come she started having morning sickness as soon as she came back? Jessica, have you thought about this?"

Jessica's face darkened, and she asked irritably, "Patrick, what are you trying to say? Is Wendy's morning sickness related to me?"

Patrick said, "I didn't mean that. But you should think about it carefully. I'm going to bed now."
