Chapter 693 Mother and Daughter Reconcile

Chapter 693 Mother and Daughter Reconcile

A few more days passed. That morning, Wendy received a call from Jessica.

"Mom?" She was surprised that Jessica would call her on her own initiative.

Jessica said, "I just made some beef stew. I'll bring it over to you at lunchtime. Tell Caspian not to bring you lunch today."

"Great, we have lunch break at eleven-thirty."

"Got it." Jessica hung up first after saying that.

Wendy didn't know what Jessica meant by this and quickly called Patrick.

"Dad, where are you? Mom just called saying she's bringing me lunch at noon. What does she mean?"

Patrick said cheerfully, "Isn't this a good thing? I'm out with some old colleagues today. Don't be nervous. Someone sent your mom two prime beef ribs yesterday, farm-raised beef, really good quality meat. Stewed with carrots and potatoes, it's definitely going to be delicious. Make sure you eat plenty."

"Dad, is Mom making peace with me?" Wendy asked a bit happily.

"Don't worry about what it is, it's a good thing anyway. Alright, I gotta go, everyone's waiting for me."

"Oh, go have fun then, bye."

Wendy hung up, feeling happy. If Jessica was coming to see her, that meant she was backing down. She then sent a message to Caspian, telling him about the situation. Caspian was also quite happy when he found out, and replied telling her to eat more.

At noon, Jessica came carrying an insulated food container.

"Mom, you're right on time." Wendy took her to the break room.

Jessica looked around and said, "Not a bad work environment."

"It's okay, we have what the big companies have." Wendy opened the insulated container like a hungry cat.

Jessica asked, "Has the morning sickness gotten better lately?"

Wendy smelled the aroma of the beef and said with a smile, "I'm not throwing up anymore. I eat really well every day."

"That's good. If you're not throwing up, eat more. The more you eat, the more nutrition the baby gets." Jessica said.

"The housekeeper makes different dishes for me every day, really good." Wendy said while eating big mouthfuls.

Jessica crossed her arms, leaned back in her chair watching her, smiled, and said, "I can tell, you've gained a bit more weight these past few days."

"Right? Caspian said I've gained weight too. But whatever, it's all for the baby. After I give birth, I'll lose the weight." Wendy wasn't too concerned about her figure.

"Are the potatoes good?"

"Delicious, the beef is so flavorful." Wendy ate in big bites and said, "Mom, the housekeeper at home cooks well too, but I feel like it's just missing something compared to yours. You know what, is this what they call a mother's touch?"

Jessica smiled slightly but didn't say anything.

It had been a long time since the mother and daughter had been together so peacefully like this, talking calmly.

"Mom, did you come to bring me lunch today because you have something you want to tell me?" Wendy asked.

"Eat first, we'll talk after you finish."

"It's okay, go ahead. I'm in a pretty good state of mind right now."

Jessica took a sip of water, thought for a moment, and asked earnestly, "Wendy, let me ask you again, are you really set on being with Caspian?"

"Mom, Caspian and I are already starting to prepare for the wedding. The baby in my belly is growing day by day. I really want to be with Caspian." Wendy looked at Jessica and said firmly, "Mom, I don't want to say this again, but even if the path I've chosen leads to an unhappy life, I'm going to see it through."

"It breaks my heart to see you like this." Jessica's eyes reddened slightly. She turned her head away, her voice choking, "I can't bear it."

"Mom, I'm an adult now. I can take responsibility for my actions. Even if Caspian wrongs me later and we split up, I'll still live a wonderful life. Life isn't just about marriage. Of course, if things go well, everyone's happy, and I'll work hard on my marriage." Wendy's words were clear and thoughtful.

Jessica knew that further persuasion wouldn't work, and seeing that Wendy wasn't completely dependent on Caspian, she felt somewhat relieved.

She said, "Wendy, since you've said this, I have nothing more to say. As your parent, I've said everything I needed to say. If your marriage really does end in unhappiness, don't come blaming me."

"I won't." Wendy asked with a grin, "Mom, does this mean you accept us?"

"Not completely." Jessica said coldly, "Why are you even asking me this? Whether I accept it or not, haven't you been doing what you want anyway, not listening to me?"

"Mom, what do you mean by 'not completely'? What part do you accept and what part don't you accept?" Wendy asked curiously.

Jessica said, "I accept the fact that you're pregnant, and I accept that you're getting married. But Caspian, I still don't accept! We're mother and daughter. No matter how much resentment there is, as your mother, seeing you suffer from morning sickness breaks my heart. So I had to compromise. I don't want to lose you as my daughter."

"Mom, you're my only mother too." Wendy took Jessica's hand playfully and said, "Alright then, if you don't accept Caspian, then you don't. I just hope you can gradually accept him in the future."

That her mother agreed to the marriage was already a huge concession. She shouldn't ask for too much more right now. Once they became family, they'd get used to it over time.

Jessica watched Wendy smile happily and felt uncomfortable inside. So this was it—making her daughter smile happily just meant agreeing to what she wanted. Before, she had really refused many of her daughter's requests, always making her follow her own demands, depriving her of so much happiness.

"Mom, thank you! Really, thank you!" Wendy stepped forward and hugged Jessica, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Jessica patted her back and said softly, "Don't blame Mom for what happened before. Mom's intentions were always for your own good."

"I know." Wendy nodded hard.

"Alright, eat up before it gets cold."

Wendy pulled away from her embrace and continued eating.

"How are the wedding preparations going? When's the wedding date?"

"Caspian consulted a fortune teller. July 28th, which happens to be a Saturday." Wendy said, "Caspian is handling all the wedding arrangements. He has good connections, the hotel and venue are all booked. In a couple days we're going to take wedding photos. We'll live in this house for now, and after I have the baby, we'll renovate a new place. That's pretty much it."

"What about meeting both sets of parents? Have you set a date? Before the wedding, I need to see what his parents are like, and I need to visit their home."

"Since you didn't agree before, Caspian didn't dare bring it up. His parents asked twice, and he made excuses both times." Wendy said, "So I'll have Caspian arrange a day in the next few days for you to meet his parents."

"Go ahead and arrange it." Jessica said coolly.
