Chapter 315 I’m Your Boyfriend, Not Your Lover
Chapter 315 I’m Your Boyfriend, Not Your Lover
When leaving the Wright Manor, Rachel took only the outfit she wore yesterday and the clothes she had borrowed from Betty. She didn't take any of the outfits Jessica had sent over last night.
As for the eight gift boxes Jessica had prepared for her, they contained high-end luxury scarves and bags, along with a bracelet and a necklace.
You could tell at a glance they were expensive.
The remaining items were all precious herbs, most likely meant for Louie who was still in the hospital recovering.
These gifts were really thoughtful and covered all bases.
But wasn't the standard a bit too high?
Rachel felt a bit lost holding these gifts from the Wright family.
Whether they gave her these gifts out of courtesy or not, Rachel didn't care.
When Rachel returned to the southern part of Dawnlight City, it was right around noon.
She and Benjamin ate out, and in the afternoon Rachel drove to Stargaze Gallery and held a simple all-staff meeting.
She mentioned what happened last night, with someone lurking outside Stargaze Gallery, and told all employees to stay alert.
Ever since Autumn's exhibition started, Stargaze Gallery had become famous in Dawnlight City. The bigger the reputation, the more trouble it brought.
Besides Nancy, who had been watching Rachel and Stargaze Gallery all along, there were others secretly observing them out of jealousy.
After hearing this, the employees' mood became somewhat heavy.
After finishing this matter, Rachel didn't waste time and dismissed the meeting right away.
Around 3 PM, Benjamin sent her a WhatsApp message saying that the people he commissioned last night had sent over all the surveillance footage from around Stargaze Gallery, asking if she was busy now or if they should wait until tonight to review it.
Going through seven full days of surveillance footage wouldn't be easy. Watching it alone would not only strain the eyes but also be very slow.
If she asked others to help watch, those unfamiliar with Nancy might not recognize her even if they saw her.
Nancy was like a thorn stuck in her throat right now.
If she didn't pull it out or find her, she couldn't feel at ease at all.
If Nancy really had spent a lot of time scouting the area, she wouldn't give up easily just because of what happened yesterday.
She didn't have much work today - Carol and Wayne had taken care of most of it.
After signing the remaining documents, Rachel called Carol over, gave her a few instructions, then grabbed her bag and car keys and left the office.
When she drove to Azure Sky Law Firm, it was already 4 PM.
She hadn't come to the law firm many times. The last time was last year, when she walked through the law firm's doors as a client.
It seemed she had come to test the contents of the coffee Nancy bought her, and then they went to the western part of Dawnlight City together.
The receptionist was still the same girl who had greeted her on her first visit to the law firm.
The receptionist had smiling eyes. When she saw Rachel, she paused, looking as if she'd found her familiar but couldn't remember where they'd met.
When Rachel got closer, she exclaimed, "Ms. Davis?!"
"Hello, we meet again." Rachel smiled at her warmly.
The girl immediately nodded, then said, "Mr. Wright is in his office."
Rachel nodded, and replied, "Okay, thank you."
She went straight to Benjamin's office on the fifth floor and lightly knocked on the door. A faint "come in" could be heard from inside.
She turned the doorknob and entered. Benjamin looked up from his computer, "You're here."
Rachel put down her bag and walked over to him. Seeing surveillance footage from around Stargaze Gallery playing on the computer, she asked, "How is it? Have you found anything?"
Benjamin got up and pulled over a chair, letting her sit in the comfortable office chair.
"Nothing yet. Would you like something to drink?"
"No need."
Neither spoke further, both focusing their attention on the two computers in front of them.
After staring at the computer for over an hour straight, Rachel felt like her eyes were going blind. Only then did she spot a figure resembling Nancy near the main entrance of Stargaze Gallery around 7:30 PM two days ago.
Benjamin pressed the intercom and asked Nathaniel to bring in a glass of juice.
After hanging up, he pulled Rachel's hand and walked to the sofa to sit down, gently massaging her temples.
He said softly, "You rest for a bit. Staring at the computer so intently for so long will hurt your eyes. I'll go through the rest again to see if there's anything we missed."
Rachel nodded.
Soon, Nathaniel came in with a glass of juice, greeted Rachel, and left without lingering.
Later, Benjamin spent about another hour going through all the surveillance footage roughly.
In the middle of it, Rachel walked over to him. He was about to move the office chair out for her to sit, but she pressed down on it.
"Don't move, it's too much trouble. There are chairs right here."
Benjamin didn't insist. After staring at the computer for about ten more minutes and seeing her still standing bent over beside him, he simply stretched his leg to the side.
He patted his leg, "Sit here and watch."
Rachel was slightly stunned and blinked, looking down at his leg.
The leg wrapped in dress pants was long and well-proportioned, without an ounce of extra fat.
Because he exercised regularly, there was even a subtle sense of solid strength.
This feeling... she had deeply experienced last night.
As soon as a few images that needed censoring popped into her mind, she shuddered all over. Her ears turned red as if they'd been burned.
If someone walked into the office and saw her sitting on his lap, just thinking about that scene made her awkwardly touch her nose and straighten up.
"Forget it, you watch. I won't watch anymore."
She waved her hand, touched her neck somewhat uncomfortably, and was about to turn back to sit on the sofa and check on her phone whether the private detective had found any trace of Nancy.
But before she could take a step, her arm was suddenly grabbed. She froze, and before she could react, she lost her balance and fell backward, landing squarely on that solid, steady leg.
An arm passed through her waist from the side, tightly encircling her slender waist.
Rachel's spine stiffened. She turned to meet his gaze, "What are you doing?"
Benjamin seemed to have mind-reading abilities, knowing what she was thinking, "Except for Nathaniel, no one can easily enter my office. No one will see, and even if they do, it doesn't matter. I'm your boyfriend, not your lover. There's nothing to fear about being seen."
Rachel was completely speechless.
His voice was as indifferent as always, especially that last sentence, said so casually.
As if it were just a very ordinary statement of fact.
His attitude was so open and natural. Not only did the hand around her waist not loosen at all, it held her tighter and tighter, his chest pressing against her back.
His other hand reached for the mouse, and he seriously looked away, returning his gaze to the computer screen.
He said softly, "Just watch like this."
Rachel was at a loss for words, but in the end she didn't move, just sat there and let him hold her.
But it didn't last too long - probably only six or seven minutes - when her phone on the sofa suddenly rang.
She struggled to get up, and Benjamin didn't stop her, letting go naturally.
The call was from the private detective, updating Rachel on Nancy's situation.
He said he still hadn't found Nancy.
Nancy had vanished from this world as if she'd disappeared into thin air.
