Chapter 307 Two-faced
Chapter 307 Two-faced
Actually, when you get down to it, this whole thing is really tricky.
Rachel has no proof that Aurora tried to frame her. Dewfall Garden doesn't have surveillance cameras, and everything happened so suddenly that she didn't have time to prepare.
So under these circumstances, no matter how they try to smear her, she absolutely can't accept it.
Unless they first admit that Aurora tried to frame her.
In the end, she can still say that Aurora's plan was exposed by her, and Aurora got so angry she fainted . What does that have to do with her?
She's the most innocent victim here.
And when dealing with unreasonable people like the Rivera Family, there's really no need to be too concerned about manners or put on airs.
And definitely can't be too honest or play by the rules.
Otherwise, she'll be the one who suffers.
People never know how much it hurts until the whip hits their own back.
If you don't hit them hard enough to make them feel pain, they'll keep bullying you. But hit back hard, and they'll know you're not someone to mess with - that you've got thorns.
Next time they want to cause trouble, they'll have to think twice about whether they can handle it.
Looking at their embarrassed faces now, she sneered and curled her lips in contempt.
Jacob's face looked terrible. Miranda being mocked was basically an insult to him.
His hands, which had been resting on his knees, clenched into fists. He coldly scolded, "Sophistry! Benjamin, aren't you going to control your girlfriend?!"
When Benjamin was called out, he just glanced at him coolly, "You should control your daughter properly. It's the Rivera Family's dignity that's being lost here."
"How dare you!"
Jacob was humiliated and furiously slammed the table as he stood up, "You're becoming more and more disrespectful to me!"
Benjamin calmly asked back, "When have you ever respected me? Haven't you always favored your other two nephews more?"
So Jacob shouldn't try to use his status as an elder to pressure him.
It won't work.
Benjamin doesn't buy that.
"You!"
Jacob's face turned red with anger.
Rachel raised her eyebrows slightly, not particularly bothered by his rage.
Her expression calm and composed, she moved her red lips, "Jacob, I'm just clarifying and explaining for myself, but somehow in your mouth it's become sophistry."
She curled her lips. Now whoever provokes her, she'll attack right back.
There's no reason she should come to a birthday party and get humiliated.
Watching Eileen go on and on, her calm eyes shifted slightly, drifting casually to land on Claire's pale face.
Claire was probably the real mastermind behind all this.
There's no reason they should be arguing here while she gets to protect herself.
Otherwise, wouldn't that be such a waste of the elaborate trap she set?
She said lightly, "If you all don't believe me, you can also ask Ms. Chase. She was there at the time. How long are we going to keep arguing like this? I believe Ms. Chase can give the most fair answer."
Claire was slightly stunned. She lifted her head gently and her eyes unexpectedly met Rachel's in the air.
Was that last sentence threatening her?
The reason she hadn't left was actually because she wanted to know how this would play out. She'd also thought that after Benjamin learned Aurora had fainted, even out of respect, he would come to see Aurora.
She wanted to use today's chaotic situation to teach Rachel a lesson.
What she didn't expect was that Benjamin would actually bring Rachel along.
Everyone was targeting Rachel, but it didn't make her panic or get nervous at all.
Instead, Rachel spoke more and more logically, which made her witness Rachel's debating skills once again.
But thinking about it carefully, this Miranda really isn't smart.
What an idiot!
If she goes along with Miranda's words now, Rachel will probably be planning to frame her.
The anger in her chest was rising rapidly.
But she had to suppress it and couldn't show any signs.
If she goes along with Rachel's words, she'll definitely offend the Rivera Family members. When Aurora finds out, she might even take it out on her.
Then she won't have any advantage left.
Rachel is deliberately making things difficult for her.
This shouldn't be happening.
How did it turn into this situation?
She just wanted to watch the drama unfold. How did she go from being a bystander to becoming a key witness to this incident?
Every step into this trap was Rachel intentionally or unintentionally pushing her.
This was clearly a trap she designed.
How did Rachel become the one who benefits?
Which step went wrong?
It seems like after Aurora's fake illness and framing failed, everything that followed became uncontrollable.
Meeting everyone's gaze, Claire could only steady herself and nod gently, saying, "Mrs. Wright did say such things. Ms. Davis had some misunderstanding about Miranda and me at the time, thinking our attitude was bad.
Later when Benjamin came, there was a small misunderstanding, and she said a few sharp words to Mrs. Wright. Right after they left, Mrs. Wright fainted.
Miranda must have felt that Mrs. Wright's sudden fainting was connected to Ms. Davis, and in her worry and concern for Mrs. Wright's health, she understandably lost her composure. I hope Ms. Davis can be understanding."
These few sentences were somewhat evasive and ambiguous.
She confirmed Rachel's words while also making excuses for Miranda.
She attributed all the conflicts and results to misunderstandings.
But this was the smartest and best answer, like a referee ending this farce.
However, her actions couldn't resolve the current tricky situation.
So now she's the unreasonable, arrogant one?
Claire is really two-faced.
Rachel laughed, though it was hard to tell if she was amused or angry.
Her smile didn't reach her eyes, "Ms. Chase, you're too kind. Forgiveness isn't necessary. I just thought that when you came in with such a strong reaction questioning Mrs. Wright, it led Ms. Rivera to misunderstand that I had done something bad to Mrs. Wright.
But since you've apologized, it's all a small matter to me. It's good that the misunderstanding is cleared up."
As her words fell, Benjamin suddenly squeezed her palm discreetly, had her sit down, and pushed the cup of coffee the servant had just brought over in front of her.
The corners of his lips curved up in a faint arc as he said in a low voice, "Rest for a bit. You've talked so much, have some coffee to soothe your throat."
Rachel paused, gently looking up to meet his deep eyes, while catching a glimpse of the barely-there smile at the corner of his mouth.
This was...
A hint?
She looked down at the steaming coffee in the cup. It seemed... maybe... she understood his underlying meaning.
This was also his support for her. All her words and actions today had his tacit approval.
He firmly stood on her side.
This was his attitude today.
She picked up the coffee cup, the smile on her face not diminishing but deepening into her eyes a bit.
Her whole body relaxed considerably from its tense state. She gently sniffed the coffee, blew on it, then brought it to her lips for a light sip.
She nodded in appreciation, "This coffee is really good. Must be a good brand."
She turned to ask the servant standing behind, "Where is this coffee from?"
The servant stepped forward two steps and replied, "Ms. Davis, this is from overseas."
Rachel raised her eyebrows again.
Famous foreign coffee!
Not bad at all.
She smiled, "No wonder the coffee aroma is so rich."
That's what he meant, right?
She didn't misunderstand, right?
She can say it like this, right?
