Chapter 107 Training his power
Chapter 107 Training his power
River
The sun hangs low in the sky, its warm glow filtering through the canopy of trees that line our path. Aloria walks beside me, her vibrant presence illuminating the trail like the sun itself. I can feel the excitement radiating off her, the thrill of returning to our pack swirling around us like the gentle breeze rustling the leaves. But beneath that excitement lies a shared melancholy, a bittersweet reminder of the family we leave behind, if only for a little while.
As we travel deeper into the woods, I steal glances at her, watching the way her hair dances in the wind, the way her laughter seems to echo off the trees, filling the air with joy. I can’t help but smile. She is everything I’ve ever wanted, and the thought of returning home, back to our pack, fills me with a sense of purpose. I have a responsibility to her, to protect her and to support her in her quest to strengthen our home.
“River,” Aloria calls, her voice breaking through my thoughts. “You’re awfully quiet. What’s on your mind?”
I chuckle, shaking my head. “Just thinking about how lucky I am to have you by my side,” I reply, my heart swelling with pride.
She blushes, a rosy hue creeping across her cheeks. “You always know how to make me feel special,” she says, squeezing my hand tighter.
As the sun dips lower, the forest begins to darken, and we decide to make camp for the night. The warriors we’ve brought with us set up the tents and prepare a fire, the familiar crackle and warmth enveloping us as dusk settles around us. Aloria sits close to me, her eyes reflecting the flames as she talks with Kellan, I am happy that they have become close friend, knowing he will protect her with his life if I am not there.
I can’t help but admire her, the way she commands attention even among the gruffest of our pack. But as the evening draws on, I feel the pulse of energy within me, the power of lightning crackling at my fingertips, eager to be unleashed.
“Aloria,” I say, my voice low so only she can hear. “I’m going to practice for a bit. Will you be okay?”
Her brow furrows slightly, concern flashing in those beautiful eyes. “Just be careful. I don’t want you to hurt yourself.”
“I promise,” I assure her, leaning in to press a kiss to her forehead. “I’ll be right over there.”
I walk away from the warmth of the fire, stepping into the shadowy embrace of the trees. The night air is cool against my skin, invigorating and alive. I take a deep breath, grounding myself. The lightning within me is a wild thing, a force that yearns to be tamed.
Closing my eyes, I focus on the energy coursing through me, feeling it crackle and spark. I envision the power as a storm brewing within, swirling and chaotic. I raise my hands, palms open, and let the energy flow.
“Come on,” I whisper, urging it to respond to my will. I visualize a small orb of light forming, a controlled strike instead of overwhelming chaos.
With a flick of my wrist, I direct the energy outward. A burst of lightning snaps from my fingertips, illuminating the surrounding trees in a blinding flash. The sound of thunder follows, echoing through the night, but the precision of the strike is off.
“Damn it,” I mutter, frustration bubbling up. I can feel the power within me, but honing it to a fine point is a challenge.
I take a moment to breathe, to center myself. I can’t afford to lose control, not when Aloria’s safety depends on my abilities. I can’t just be a brute; I need finesse.
The crackle of energy responds to my renewed focus, and I concentrate harder. This time, I picture a small sphere hovering in front of me, a beacon of light that dances with potential. I channel my energy again, feeling the hum of power as it builds in my core.
“Let’s try again,” I murmur, and with a swift motion, I unleash another bolt. It strikes a nearby tree, illuminating it in a brilliant flash, but this time, it’s more controlled. I see the bark charred, but the strike is smaller, more precise.
“Yes!” I exclaim, a rush of exhilaration surging through me. I can do this. I can master this power.
A rustle in the bushes catches my attention, and I turn, finding Aloria standing there, her eyes wide with curiosity.
“Did you see that?” I ask, a grin spreading across my face.
“I did,” she replies, her voice filled with awe. “It was incredible. You’re getting better at it.”
I can’t help but beam at her praise. “I’m trying to harness it for smaller, more precise strikes. It’s a work in progress.”
She steps closer, her eyes sparkling with admiration. “I knew you could do it. You’re amazing, River.”
I step toward her, feeling the warmth of her presence drawing me in. “But I need to be more than amazing for you, Aloria. I need to be the protector you deserve.”
“And you are,” she responds, her voice firm. “You’re already doing it. You’re my strength, and I trust you with my life.”
Her words wrap around me like a shield, fortifying my resolve. I lean in, capturing her lips in a soft kiss, a promise of my dedication to her and our future.
As we pull apart, the fire crackling behind us, I can feel the energy inside me settle, the storm calming. I take her hand, intertwining our fingers, feeling the bond between us strengthen.
“Let’s go back to the fire,” I say, my heart still racing from the thrill of both practicing and being with her. “I don’t want to miss out on your stories.”
As we walk back, I glance up at the stars beginning to twinkle in the night sky, each one a flicker of hope and promise. The journey home has only just begun, and with Aloria by my side, I know we will face whatever challenges lie ahead, together.
I can’t help but smile at the thought. Together, we can conquer anything.
