Chapter 139 Chapter 139

Chapter 139 Chapter 139
Jess’s POV

The training yard looked like people had been playing paint ball with all the colours. Everyone was stood with their team in their team colours. I walked to the start line. Since all of us where in teams I had grabbed a couple of the kitchen hands to help. I walked over to Angie. She was a 13-year-old whose mum used to work in the agency. Her mother had died on the job when the girl was only 7. We had no idea who her father was. She had been living at the camp ever since. She had no other family and we did not want to see the poor kid go in to foster care

“Ok so there are 20 teams of 20 when all 20 team members of one team are over the finish line. I want you to write the colour of that team down. I then want you to do the same thing for the second third and last team”

“Yes, agent Storm. I understand. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch it’s very exciting”

“No Worries” I smiled at the girl as I walked away. I went to join my team near the start line. “Ok are you are ready for this?”

“I feel like we are cheating having two vampires and a werewolf” Tammy mumbled

“A lot of the other teams have sups in them as well”

“Yeah, but not you guys, come on all of you were in the first war. You also know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. That gives you an advantage”

“But none of the other teams approached us and asked us to be in their team”

“I never thought of that”

“You need to stop worrying and get ready to kick some arse”

“Am sorry, you’re totally right. I will give this challenge everything that I have”

“And try to enjoy yourself while you are at it. That goes to all of you. If you get tired tell us as we have two vampires and a werewolf who can carry you. We also have a shape shifter. There are no rules with helping so Nick could turn into a wolf and carry you on his back. Kieran could turn into a horse and carry you. Hayley and Oscar could just throw you over their shoulder. So, if you need help ask and they will help you. I want us to win this to prove a point. I want the other teams to regret not asking any of us to be in their team. I want the outcasts to win, now who is with me?”

“We are” The rest of the team screamed as one

“Good now I am just going to get the help sorted so that we can start this race. I will be back in a second. While I am gone, I will get Kieran to show you some warmup exercises” I ran off to the kitchen hand that had been positioned at the start line. He was an old, retired agent who was now in wheelchair. He had wanted to help us out with the war, and this was the only way that we could think of how he could help. “Hi Frank, how are you doing today?”

“Jess my lovely lady I am good. It’s nice to be out of the kitchen and watching you kids in action”

“So are ya ready to start the race then”

“I was born ready my child” He winked at me as he lifted the bull horn that he had hidden underneath his wheelchair. “Ok I want everyone on the start line and in their position NOW” I smiled back at him as I ran to join my team.

“Man saying the man has been retired for twenty years he still knows how to make people about him” Kieran laughed as he took my hand and pulled me to the start line

“That’s why I chose him. I like Frank he is a good guy”

“That’s just because he would bring you chocolate when John had trained you too hard”

“Hey, how did you know that?”

“Because he did the same thing to me.  He likes to give rewards when he sees a job well done”

“Wow what a cheeky old man” I turned and faced my team ok guys get into your start positions. Kieran, Hayley, Oscar, Nick and I are going to stay behind you to give you all a hand if you need it. The track is easy we will be running 1st and then the obstacle course at the end. You can do these guys I have 100% faith in you. Now let’s go and kick some arse” I just managed to finish when Frank started up on his bull horn again.

“On your marks, get set, run ya little bastards” Frank laughed hysterically as we all ran past him

As everyone ran off, I walked over to Frank “Thank you for helping with this”

“No worries, but should you not be running with them?”

“Yeah, but I will be able to catch up with no worries. I just wanted to say thank you”

“I should be the one thanking you for training that bunch. You’re a good leader now you better start running or you might not catch up”

“Please Frank you know me better than that. My team is going to win even with me starting late, just watch and you will see”

“That sounds like a bet”

“What are you offering old man?”

“If you lose you make me a cake. If you win, I will make you and all of your team a cake each”

“You are so on. I will see you at the finish line” I was smiling as I ran off to join my team and wondering what kind of cake I would want him to make me. I reached Nick first he was jogging at a slow speed watching the others.

“Hey Jess, I was wondering something?”

“What?”

“Why don’t we just pick them up and run? We would win the race with ease then”

“We will win the race with ease any way, but we are not going to just pick them up as I want them to try and do this on their own. They will have more trust in their ability if they do. That is another reason why we are running at the back. I do not want them to see how easy we find this. It will make them have doubts about their ability and it will make them not try as hard”

“You sound like a shrink”

“Na I could not cope having to sit at a desk. I need to be on the move”
