“Ok I want the rest of you to follow me and not lag too far behind. I am going to start off at a casual pace. Don’t try to show off and overtake me. This is another challenge and if you do not complete it them you will do physical training until you can. Now follow me” I started off at a nice jog then after 5 kilometres I speed up to a brisk jog. By the time we had reached the 10-kilometre mark we were full on running. Hayley and Oscar were on either side of me. I had asked them to come and be my eyes for me as they could run backwards at my human speed. “How are they all going back there?”
“Well, I am really proud of Christina as she is still there. So is your family. But you have lost about half of them” Hayley reported
“Damn it. Fine even if they passed the obstacle course, I am still going to make them do physical training with me. I will only let them do firearms training if they have passed both tests. I need my team strong and fit” I slowed down to a walk as we arrived back at the muck hall. Kieran was just setting of with the other team when we arrived. I gave him a wave as we passed each other. The people who had not finished the course were sat waiting for us. “Ok I do not want to have to make my speech twice so while we wait for the next group you can just sit and relax”
“Jess, I finished. I am so happy” Christina gushed
“I know Hayley commented on that fact that you were still there. We are really proud of you. Now all we need is for you to finish the obstacle course after breakfast”
“I think that I am going to ace it. I think that I could have before, but I didn’t think I could, so of course I didn’t. Am I making sense?”
“Yes, you are and I think that you’re right”
“Thank you, Jess,” We both turned around so that we could watch the other team. Some had dropped out all ready and where slowly walking back towards us. By the time they had finished Kieran only had a quarter of him team with him.
“Well, that was a disaster. I want you all to go inside and sit in your teams” I shook my head as I lead them inside. I walked to the front of the room and waited until everyone was seated. John came and stood beside me.
“So, I heard that not many of them passed”
“No, so you will not have that many people with you today for firearms training”
“That’s ok. It’s easier to train a small group any way. It will be easier for me to find a good sniper team if I have less to look at”
“Well at this rate we are not going to have many fit people to be out in the field, so I hope we have some bloody good guns men out there”
“Chill Jess it’s only the second day we will be fine”
“Yeah, I hope so” I turned towards the group in front of me. “Well, we have had a change of plan. The only people who will be doing the fire arms training are the ones that passed the obstacle course and the run today” Everyone in the room started to complain “If you are not happy with this please raise your hand so that I can give you permission to speak” Not one person raised their hand “That’s what I thought. This is not a holiday or scout camp. This is a war training camp. We are not going to make this easy for you. We are going to train you to be fighters. To be a fighter you need to be strong and fit. If after this training, you are still not up to it then you will not be going out on the battlefield. Is that understood?”
“Yes mam”
“Good. Now I hope that those of you who were late this morning have learnt their lesson. We do not take lateness. If I tell you to meet at a certain time you should be stood waiting at that time. Not arriving at that time or after that time. Now we are going to eat and then those few who passed both courses will go with agent Grahams. The rest of you will come with me and we will get those who failed the obstacle course to try again. If you pass this time, you will be sent to join Agent Grahams. If you fail again you will stay with me, and we will all do some fitness training. Kieran, Hayley and Oscar, I would love it if you would please assist me with the fitness training as you all already know how to shoot and Hayley and Oscar don’t really need to use guns as they have the speed and strength. Ok follow the same pattern for eating” I walked back to my team and slumped down in my chair.

“Your wish is my command my lady” And off he trotted to get our breakfast. I could not help but smile. No matter how down I felt he always managed to pick me up.
This time most of the people passed the obstacle course. Now all they had to do was pass the running test and we would be fine.
