Jess’s POV

And we went. All three of us had been trained to win so we all gave it all that we had. We climbed the wall. Scuttled under the wire, ran through the tires and swung over the river. I crossed the line first followed by Kieran and then John. There was less than a second between all of us.

“Wow well done guys Jess you completed the course in one minute and fifty-nine seconds. Kieran was about half a second behind you and then John about quarter of a second behind Kieran”

I look around and everyone looked impressed “Ok now it’s your turn. The course can accommodate ten people at a time. So, I want you all lined up on the start line in rows of ten. Don’t be scared of going first as you’re not having to live up to anyone going first, but you are setting the bar for everyone else” With that said everyone started to head back to the finish line. By the time I got there the first group was ready to go. You are now going to be timed individually. We are going to time you all to see if you can complete the course in less than four minutes. Kieran and I are going to wait for you all at the finish line. John is going to make sure that you leave at the same time, when he says. When you have completed the course, I want you to go over to Kieran and give him your name and what team you are in. He will then tell you if you have finished the course in time or if you must do it again. Ok Kieran and I are off to the finish line now. I will leave you in John’s hands. Thank you”

Kieran grabbed his clip board from a rock and followed me to the finish line. Romeo had been sat by a rock watching us. He decided to come along too.

“So, you know what you’re doing?” I asked Kieran

“I have to take the names down and see if they pass. Do you think that any of them will?”

“Yeah Hayley, Oscar and Nick will, but they are supes. We will have to see about the others” From where we stood, we could see John and when the racers started. I stood with the stopwatch waiting while Kieran stood to one side with Romeo. The first group where off. I watched them and was impressed. Hayley and Oscar where part of the first group, of course they beat the record time with them been vamps and all. The other team had a werewolf among them. He qualified along with one other human. I sent the people who passed over to Kieran, and I told the others to sit down on the other side of the course. By the time everyone had finished the course it was time for dinner. 150 people had passed the course within the time frame. That included Kieran, John, Hayley, Paul, Oscar, Nick, Amber and me. My family and Christina did not make the cut.

“Ok well done to those of you that made the cut. We will now head back to the muck hall to get something to eat. Please go and sit back in your groups when you get there. Thank you”

“I cannot believe that I did not pass the course. This sucks. I wanted to train with my man” Christina stamped her feet as she walked.

“Christina, calm down. You were only a couple of seconds over. Put your all into it tomorrow and I am sure that you will pass and then you will get to train with your man”

“That’s the point Jess, I did give it my all. I am not as fit as you guys are. I have always been the chubby one of the group”

“I promise that you will complete the course by the end of the week. Even if I have to put in extra training sessions with you”

“Extra training? Are you kidding me? I will be dead after one training session with you”

“Stop been a drama queen. We have to get to the muck hall” I stormed away from her and went to the muck hall. I could not deal with drama. We had more important things to think about then training with our partners. I would not be training with Kieran, and you did not see me been a cow about it. I was focused. I can spend time with him after we win the war. As soon as I arrived at the muck hall I went straight to the front. “Ok before we eat, I would like to advise you of the plans for after dinner and tomorrow. Tonight, you will have free time. You can spend that time anyway you like. You can work out in the gym, run around the compound or spend it in your room getting to know each other. Tomorrow morning I want you all to meet me here at 0600 hours on the dot. I want you in your workout clothes. We will all be going for a run before we eat breakfast, then will then eat. After everyone has finished their breakfast, we will be splitting you up. The ones who passed the course today will be going with Agent Grahams, and you will be taught the basics of shooting. The others will come with me, and we will be doing fitness training. You will get another chance to try the course after we have stopped for lunch. The people who have already passed the course can either come and watch or go and work out. We will now eat, and we will follow the same pattern as last time but this time the blue team will lead. Enjoy” I walked away and sat with my team.

“I’m sorry for been a brat. I would love it if you could find the time to put some extra training in for me”

“It’s ok. I am sorry for snapping. I am just a bit stressed with wanting to get everyone ready and trained up”

“You will be fine. You will soon have this unruly mob in tip top shape”

“I sure hope so. They are not a bad group though. They can follow orders so far, so I hope that they stay this way”
