Chapter 91─Discussing Bruce with Joan and Mishka
“This is Theresa’s number, let me phone her,” Graham commented before calling.
“Hey there, Theresa. I got your number from someone, so, I wanted to know if you are still around?” Graham asked.
“Oh, cos I haven’t seen you and your friend in a while,” Graham commented after a pause.
“Anyway, I happen to be looking for my friend actually. The one who was with me earlier?” he continued.
“Oh, when last did you see him?” Graham asked after listening to Theresa’s response.
“You saw him leaving?” Graham asked and listened again.
Mishka observed his facial expressions with her breath held while he spoke.
“But, he left his phone here, so he was clearly not intending to leave,” Graham responded on his cell phone before listening again.
“Okay, then I will have to phone some other people and hope that they know where he is,” Graham continued before listening to Theresa again.
“Okay, I’m with two friends, but we can come over,” he remarked before ending the call.
“You want us to go to Theresa with you?” Mishka asked, frowning in confusion.
“Yes, because she’s with Jean and you have to get to know how Jean looks, especially close up,” Graham replied, nodding at Joan then at Mishka.
“Okay, but then Theresa will remember how I accused her and how I took her on in the woods.
Then Jean will become aware of my presence here tonight as her rival. She might just lose control. No, I think I should hide in the background while I take a look at Jean.
Maybe John can meet them while I hide,” Mishka responded, glancing at Joan with desperate eyes.
Joan glanced at Graham quickly, then again at Mishka.
“Okay, I can understand that,” she agreed in a male tone of voice for Graham’s convenience.
“Then let’s go and hope that we don’t run into them before you get a chance to hide,” Graham remarked with a quick glance at Mishka.
“It would have been good if I was the one who was wearing a disguise in this particular situation,” Mishka thought to herself.
The three of them then walked off in search of Jean and Theresa.
“You can wait behind that plant. It’s big enough to hide you,” Joan advised when they were close enough to Theresa and Jean to hear their voices.
“Okay, they’re close by. Go and stand behind that pot plant before they spot you,” Graham whispered quickly as he pointed at a tall pot plant standing against a wall.
Mishka reached the plant just as Jean and Theresa showed up, smiling as they came around a corner. Mishka held her breath for a few moments.
“Oh, so that’s why Bruce and Theresa can be so easily intimidated by her,” Mishka told herself as she stood behind the plant, laying her eyes on Jean for the first time.
Jean was dressed elegantly in a bright green evening dress which was high cut on the one side, revealing her entire leg up to the thigh.
Her bright auburn hair was put up on top of her head on the one side, with loose curls cascading down onto her shoulder on the other side.
“Her eyes actually look crazy. How can they even allow her into their lives? Or do they have to tolerate her because she’s a wolf?” Mishka asked herself inwardly.
Mishka shook her head at Jean’s self-assured attitude as she stood proudly next to Theresa and chatted to Graham and Joan.
“No, we don’t have any idea where Bruce can be, but I’m sure that if he’s gone out then it’s only for a short while. He’s bound to be back soon. Don’t you think so?” Jean was suggesting. She nodded at Theresa for confirmation.
“If he left his phone then he can’t be far away,” Theresa commented in a calm tone of voice.
“Well, it must be an emergency that made him leave his phone behind. That means that I should be worried and I should be contacting someone who might know where he went off to in such a hurry,” Graham responded, ruffling his hands through his hair in frustration.
“How can Jean be so calm about it if she’s in love with Bruce?” Mishka asked herself, shaking her head in disbelief.
“Well, maybe she’s just so used to the idea of wanting him in her life that she doesn’t even realize that she’s not in love with him. It can only be an obsession,” Mishka whispered to herself.
“But, can he really just be around somewhere nearby?” she asked herself.
“Okay, let’s go back to the door and ask around to find out if anyone saw Bruce leave,” Graham suggested.
“Yes, you can do that, but I don’t think you should be that worried so early. He really can just show up any minute now,” Theresa commented with a smile.
Joan and Graham walked away and Jean walked off in the opposite direction, closely followed by Theresa who kept looking back at Graham.
As soon as she found herself alone, Mishka moved away from her hiding spot and headed for the main entrance.
“Oh, here you are. Some people are beginning to go home,” Mishka remarked when found Graham and Joan hovering near the doorway.
“Yes, we were just anxiously waiting for you. We were hoping that Jean doesn’t sense that you were there and then just decide to turn around and search for you,” Graham remarked.
“That would be strange because there was no reason for her to suspect me of being around,” Mishka responded with a frown.
“No, you don’t understand,” Joan remarked in a low tone of voice.
“What don’t I understand?” Mishka asked as she looked at Joan in concern.
“I don’t know for sure, but Jean might have some special powers of observation if she learned it from her aunt,” Graham explained in a low tone of voice.
Mishka’s mouth hung open in shock.
“Her aunt can train her to have supernatural powers, you mean?” Mishka asked with her eyes stretched wide.
“Yes, her aunt is a witch and Jean moved away from her mother’s home to go and live with the aunt who is a witchdoctor,” Graham responded in a low tone of voice.
“Oh, no. Then this is really too heavy for me,” Mishka remarked, placing her hand on her chest in shock.
“How do I fight the onslaughts of an actual witch who’s obsessed with both myself and Bruce?” she asked herself inwardly.
