Her Revenge

Her Revenge
Alea's POV

“You don't seem to understand the situation here, Kaileth” I said, now grabbing a stool as I sat down beside her bedside.

“You are nothing right now, Mother,” I said. I knew I didn't want to call her that, but that was only sarcastic.

“Did you know your daughter even came begging just to help you?” I asked. That awakened all insanity inside her.

Her body jolted up in terror as she faced me, eyes widened in shock.

“Cassie did what?” She asked and I smirked.

“She came because she wanted to help you. She knew the crazy woman behind all her misery was going to die but she didn't want to leave the world of oblivion she lives in and so doesn't want you to die” I said, explaining to her while making sure not to give out much details.

She clenched her fists, everything in her hating what her daughter had done.

“Did you say you took me in?” I asked and scoffed. “Let's be ideal here, Kaileth. You didn't just take me in, you also treated me like I was a nobody, a shadow for your daughter. A useless human being who was only born to take blame for what she had done” I said, keeping my voice low because it took everything not to make it break.

I was pained. My heart was aching because of these memories. Both her and her daughter had no regard for me. They treated me way worse than they were supposed to treat a dog and I couldn't get the trauma out of my head.

“So? Is this your revenge?” She asked and I stood up, knowing I've stayed here enough.

People like them shouldn't be able to make me cry, my past with them shouldn't be able to weaken me.

“I would have loved this to be my revenge, Mother. But other people are involved in this. I won't let other people die because of you” I paused, taking in her confused expression.

“I would be offering my blood to save everyone in here. To get all of you back to how you were before this had befallen you, but make sure you keep this in mind, Kaileth. That I'm not doing this because of you. I would never lay my blood down to save you when you are someone way worse than an animal” Those words got to her, but she knew better than to attempt to slap my face again.

“If I was given a choice, I'd never try to save you but now I have no choice, it's something I must do for the pack so I wish you good health so you would be able to get me off that throne of the Queen of the pack” I said, turned and walked away from her but stopped again by the curtains.

“I will be looking forward to your attacks, Kaileth. Just make sure you don't die when I fight back” I said and left her dumbfounded and angry.

That darn woman.

I sighed, heaving a sigh of relief. Glad that I was able to pull that off and say all that to her face without trembling. I didn't get scared of her, didn't flinch when I talked to her. I've gotten used to not getting intimidated by her.

Nor someone like her.

I walked further, feeling pity for all the patients behind the curtains and then I crossed paths with Kairo and the Elders.

I stopped and they did too while Kairo stared deep into my eyes like he was trying to get through to my soul.

“Did you cry?” He asked and I touched my face, realizing I must have teared up a bit while the memories of Cassie and Kaileth flooded in.

“No, I didn't. I'm just sad seeing all these people here” Part of that was true, and another part wasn't.

One of the Elders stepped forward, bowing deeply to me before he lifted his gaze up, a dry smile on his face.

“That's why it's better if Your Highness could get on with whatever it is the messenger of the moon goddess had delivered to you. Please get these people back on their feet” He said and the others too chorused the same thing.

“To get them back on their feets”

I sighed, a smile creeping up my face though it didn't reach the corner of my eyes.

“I will. We will surely scale through this” I said, though I'm sure they really don't want that. All they wanted is to see my downfall as well as Kairo's but too bad, they won't be getting that, not anytime soon.

I walked away, and they all followed behind and then got on the horse while Kairo climbed behind.

“Please get back to the palace safely” They chorused and we only nodded before kicking the horse to ride.

Get back to the palace safely? I knew they'd be so thrilled to hear that we died while returning to the palace.

“Did you meet with your mother?” Kairo asked, though he didn't stop riding the horse.

I sighed, knowing I got caught lying earlier when I said I hadn't cried.

“Don't worry. I put her in her place” I said and he chuckled.

“I'm sure you must have done so” He leaned in closer and whispered to my ears.

“Don't let anyone trample over you, Alea. You are the Phantom Queen. You rule all. Even the Elders” He said and I smiled, appreciating those words.

I didn't give a reply but I intended to think about those words. Not to let anyone trample over me.

The horse screeched to a halt in front of the palace main building and we got off, one of the guards coming to it by the rein as he walked it towards the stable.

I looked ahead and that's when I saw that Cassie was waiting. She smiled so widely as she bowed, though not deeply.

I sighed, hoping I won't have to deal with the daughter after the encounter with the mother.
