My Queen
My Queen
Kairo's POV
Alea and I walked towards Cassie who was bowing in greeting. That was out of her usual ways as I did know that she doesn't even accord me enough respect just because Alea is married to me even though I'm the Alpha.
Marrying Cassie was never something I had in my plans. The Elders were the one who put the pressure on me to get married and because I had no interest, because I wasn't in love with anyone, I allowed them to choose for me.
I'm sure Minister Marius, Cassie's father, was the one who nominated his daughter to be my Luna. I knew they fabricated a lot of things, made a lot of prophecies up just to make Cassie my wife but I paid no attention to it because I wanted them to do what they wanted. I wanted to allow them to win.
They wanted the girl to stay by my side so they could control me, but I wouldn't have let her.
And I was sure they would even try to accuse me of getting her pregnant when I'd never even touch her. They were so cunning, so cruel that all they wanted was to see me in ruins but I didn't care about them, never cared about them.
“You are back” Cassie said with a smile the moment she lifted her gaze to us.
We didn't smile back, and I knew she also wasn't expecting a smile.
“Why are you here, Cassie?” I asked her, not wanting to trouble Alea over dealing with her.
She smiled, her hands getting neatly placed on her belly button as she bowed slightly again before widening that smile.
“Did you forget already, Alpha? That I'm to help the Queen in the making of the ritual. To do that, I will have to be here, don't you think?” She said, and I couldn't help but think that even with that smile of hers, everything in her was screaming cunning.
“You don't have to stay here till we figure everything out about the ritual, Cassie. We might call you if we ever need your help” I said, my gaze fixed on her.
She smiled, moving closer. Those steps could surely be seen as threatening.
“That would be going through a lot of hassle, Alpha” She said, that fake smile not wanting to leave her face.
“You aren't the one to talk about that, Cassie” I said, my gaze darkening.
“Alpha. I know you are worried about me. I know I've been nothing but a pain in the ass but trust me, everything was my mother, I had no fault in this” She said, the smile finally leaving her face.
“I know. I haven't been a good person so far, but trust me, I am not going to cause you any trouble” she said, then her gaze darted to Alea, pain and remorse evident in those eyes.
“Alea. I know I haven't been a good sister even for a moment, but trust me, I'm sorry for all we've done to you. I am not here just because I wants to help my mother overcome the illness” She paused.
“I'm here because I truly care about all the pack members and I really do want to help you” she said, eyes now getting blurred with vision.
Cassie. Right now, I'm starting to think that she's the Queen of tears, the Queen of acting.
“Cassie. I simply told you to leave, not to start faking tears here” I said and from the way her gaze darted to me, I could tell she was hurt.
Alea stepped closer to Cassie, locking eyes with her sister.
“And how do I believe that all these you are doing is real?” Alea smirked.
“It's up to you to believe me or not, Alea” Cassie simply replied.
“Fine then. You will be allowed to stay in the palace just until the ritual is done. But once you are caught making trouble, you won't be spared, Cassie” Alea warned and I sighed.
I wasn't fully in support of that, but I knew it was something that she wants.
Though I know that Alea wasn't that much of a fool to quickly trust Cassie that way, I still doesn't like the idea.
“I appreciate this, Phantom Queen” Cassie said, then left us alone as she walked away.
She knew her way around the palace as she had been here so many times to either meet up with me with her mother and sometimes her father or meet up with Alea to cause trouble.
We walked into the main hall and there Darin, and the other guys that came with him were seated.
They asked about how we'd go about the ritual and Alea told them we aren't sure yet but she was sure that something will surely come her way. A prophecy or anything.
“That's fine, Alea. Don't stress so much over this. Don't let the pressure make you forget yourself” The Elder placed a hand on her shoulder and said.
“Remember, Alea. You are the Queen of the Nightborne. The only descendant of Nara” he said and Alea smiled, nodding her head.
Nara.
That was Alea's mother and it was just a pity that I didn't get to meet her. I would have loved to but even Alea couldn't.
“We have to leave Alea. Alucard is alone with only the gaurds and the refugees. We shouldn't underestimate her and be there to conquer her if she tries anything. Please understand” The Elder said and Alea smiled.
“Thank you, Elder. I'm glad you are willing to take on this job for me” she said.
“It's all our responsibility, Alea. It's nothing” Sage said and Alea smiled again, this time more widely.
Before I knew it, she had already walked to him and tried to embrace him but I was quick to join them as I stood between them preventing the hug from happening.
I cleared my throat in a funny way for seconds and that made Sage and Alea look at me with a surprise look.
Yes, I wasn't furious. I was just being jealous.
She's my Queen and as far as I know, she isn't supposed to be that close to any other man.
