Chapter 25 She Is My Wife!

Chapter 25 She Is My Wife!
Chapter Twenty-Five

Meanwhile, back in his room, Lucian sat with his cell phone pressed against his ear.

He was on a call with Zach Frost, his best friend of twenty years, who was also his trusted associate.

“Please tell me this is real.” Zach had uttered in a breathless whisper as soon as he’d picked up the phone.

For a moment when he’d seen the name of the caller flashing on his screen, he’d thought he was dreaming.

Ever since Lucian had that accident, Zach had silently disappeared, leaving no traces of his whereabouts.

Everyone knew he was Lucian’s best friend, so they were really puzzled at his disappearance , especially the Chairman and Madam Graves.

There had been wild speculations concerning him, which hinted that maybe he must have had a hand in Lucian’s accident.

This was because Lucian’s accident was highly suspicious. There was serious evidence that suggested the car may have been tampered with. This was why it had gone out of control and went over that hill.

After a thorough investigation on the matter by the police, nothing came out of it, however.

There was nothing to link Zach with the accident, and it was soon forgotten.

However, the real reason Zach had retired to the mountains and had gone out of reach was because of guilt.

He and Lucian had been inseparable ever since they became friends. That day, he had not been able to accompany Lucian on that trip, and worse, he did not have the car go through the series of checks that he normally did on Lucian’s car.

Lucian might be all tough and mighty, but he had a lot of enemies and Zach felt like it was his duty to make sure he was safe at all times.

Lucian had been in a hurry that day and had decided to take the car like that, dismissing Zach’s complaints of danger.

But then, it had crashed, and he had fallen into a comatose state.

Unable to handle the guilt, Zach had left the city after making sure that Lucian had successfully survived his surgery.

He retired to the mountains and prayed daily for Lucian to wake up, and when he’d heard the phone ring for the first time in months that afternoon, he’d almost fainted when he realized who was calling.

“Zach, it’s me. Lucian.”

Zach’s mouth hung open from where he knelt in his daily prayers on the mountain, “Lucian?” He whispered, “You’re…awake?”

“Yea, it just happened that way,” Lucian uttered nonchalantly, eager to get to the reason why he’d called, “There’s something I want you to do…”

“Luciannnn!!!” Zach interrupted as he suddenly burst into tears, crying loudly into the phone.

Lucian held the phone away from his ear for a minute, his face pinched with shock.

“Dude,” he called in surprise, “Are you crying?”

His only response was huge sobs from Zach who was crying so hard, Lucian thought he was going to faint.

“I…” Zach tried to speak up through his balling, “I thought you were never going to wake up!”

Lucian shook his head.

He was touched in spite of himself, as his own eyes turned misty.

“Dude, what the hell? Why are you crying?” He laughed softly, “I woke up, big deal. You’re supposed to be rejoicing, not crying.”

He discreetly wiped a tear away from his own eyes, as he sighed. It dawned on him that he’d missed his friends and family so much.

It was really good to be awake once again.

“I must say, it really is a miracle.” He thought.

He was suddenly plagued with the thought of how people must have suffered, while waiting for him to wake up.

He was aware of his mom crying by his bedside everyday, and his father’s quiet despair. He was sure Zach must have been going through his own kind of suffering, although he had never visited Lucian once.

But, having known Zach for years, Lucian knew it was probably because the idiot must have been so overwhelmed by guilt, that he’d run away.

He cleared his throat to get back control of his voice, “Alright, enough crying.” He uttered, even though his own voice was hoarse, “Where the hell are you? Don’t tell me you’re in one kind of remote temple on a godforsaken mountain. You are, aren’t you?”

Zach’s sobs had died down to just mere sniffs by now, “How did you know that?”

Lucian rolled his eyes heavenward, “Get back to the city, this instant.” He ordered, “Why are you so soft for a man?”

Zach laughed, relieved that he was hearing his best friend’s voice again. If he had been close to Lucian at the moment, he’d have hugged the shit out of him.

“Shut up,” he uttered, pretending to grumble, “One would have thought you would be less cranky by the time you woke up, but you still have your trashy mouth.”

“What was that, you bastard?” Lucian uttered in good humor, “Get back here at once, you hear me?”

“And if I don’t?” Zach uttered, even though he was already moving towards his room in the temple he was staying in.

He quickly brought out his huge box, and started throwing things into it with excitement.

He could not wait to get back to the city.

Lucian was awake.

That alone was enough to fill him with the energy of twenty men.

How he’d missed teasing and bickering with his very annoying friend.

“I’m serious, Zach.” Lucian said once more, his voice suddenly becoming serious, “I need you back in the city. There’s something I want you to do for me.”

Zach heard his serious tone, and frowned slightly, “You’ve only just woken up, and you already have some trouble you need to deal with?”

“Zach!”

“Alright, alright!” Zach uttered with an exasperated sigh, as he zipped his luggage close, “What do you need me to do?”

“I need you to get me information on someone,” he uttered grimly, “A certain Aria Beaumont. Find out everything you can about her and send them to me immediately.”

“Aria Beaumont?” Zach repeated, his brows crinkled in puzzlement. He was not familiar with the name, “Who’s that?”

Lucian cleared his throat nervously as his grip tightened on the phone, “She’s my wife.”
