Chapter 12 A Tough Situation
Chapter Twelve
“This is Lucian’s room. Come right in, Aria.” Madam Graves uttered, “You’re always welcome here.”
Aria bowed her head slightly in respect as she stepped through the door to Lucian’s room. The other family members followed after her and they filed into the extremely large room.
The room was dimly lit, but Aria could still make out the large bed in the middle of the room.
There were several high tech medical equipments beeping beside the bed. A doctor wearing a lab coat stood over the patient, handling a bag of liquid hung above the bed.
He looked up when the family walked in, and quickly rushed to greet them, “Chairman. Madam Graves.” He uttered in a respectful voice.
“Hello Doctor Adams,” Madam Graves uttered quietly, her eyes on Lucian’s bed.
The Doctor glanced at Nathan and Monica, and nodded surreptitiously at them. There was an the arrogant tilt to Nathan’s head, and a slight smirk on Monica’s face as they cast glances towards Lucian’s bedside.
Aria saw this exchange and a slight furrow appeared on her brows.
What the hell?
Doctor Adam’s eyes fell on Aria, and confusion set on his gaze.
The Chairman took note of this and patted Aria’s shoulder, “This is Aria Beaumont. She is Lucian’s wife.”
The Doctor’s eyes widened slightly in shock as he heard those words, “His wife?!”
“Yes,” Madam Graves answered, even though her attention was still on Lucian’s bed.
She finally tore her eyes away from him and smiled blandly at the Doctor, “Do not worry. You might even have time to rest now, Doctor Adams. Aria here will be taking over most of his basic care.”
The Doctor was taken aback and so was Monica and Nathan.
“But mother, what do you mean Aria would be taking care of Lucian?” Nathan asked loudly in disbelief.
Madam Graves slapped his shoulder sharply as she hissed at him in a fierce whisper, “You fool, why are you being so loud?!”
Nathan ignored the slap and lowered his voice as well, but his tone was still tinged with anger, “She is nothing but a country bumpkin!” He uttered fiercely, “What can she do to make Lucian any better?! What skills does she have to take care of him?”
“If we let her get any closer to Lucian, he will probably give up the ghost.” Monica said.
“Watch your mouth!” Aria uttered sharply, making everyone jump and stare at her in surprise.
Monica swallowed hard as Aria stepped closer to her, glaring at her with striking green eyes, “You’re in my husband’s room. Are you perhaps wishing death upon him?!”
Monica was flabbergasted, “What?! You…you crazy bitch…”
She caught sight of the Chairman and Madam Graves glaring at her and became frustrated immediately, “Of course I wasn’t wishing death on him!” She cried out tearfully, “That’s not what I meant at all, mother! Father!”
“Enough of this,” Aria went on, her tone authoritative, “No wonder Lucian has not woken up in three years. How can he when there’s so much evil mindset around?”
Nathan stepped forward in fury, “Aria Beaumont, you’d better watch your words,” he said through gritted teeth.
Aria stepped forward as well, “I said, It’s ARIA GRAVES to you!”
“That’s enough!” The Chairman thundered and the whole room fell silent. He looked sharply towards Lucian’s bedside, his expression suddenly contrite as he was sorry to have yelled out loud in the room.
Aria was touched by the respect they had towards Lucian, even though he was comatose and could practically not hear them.
She also took note of the extreme sadness in Madam Graves eyes as she struggled to fight back tears.
“Is this the place and time to be doing this, huh?!” The older woman said tiredly, holding on to her chest in a weak fashion.
Aria stepped forward again, “Do not worry, mother. I will assist the Doctor to take care of Lucian in any way I can.”
Madam Graves was overjoyed, “You will, right? That’s my lovely daughter-in-law!”
Even the Chairman nodded in pleasure.
The other three people were displeased, however, and the doctor could not help but speak up.
“Madam. Chairman. I really advise against this,” he said, eyeing Aria derisively, “The young miss seems not to have even come from the best background. How can she assist me in taking care of the young master?”
“Aria is very capable.” Madam Graves countered immediately, her eyes flashing, “At least give her a chance before you start talking down on her. It’s not like she will be doing your work for you. She is his wife so she has to be there for him. What’s your problem with that?”
That did it.
There was nothing more that could be said to counter Madam Graves words.
Aria held her head up gracefully, looking down her nose at the three displeased people.
She saw Nathan and Monica exchange glances with the doctor.
They looked very discontented with what was happening and that sparked an extreme curiosity in her.
“What exactly is wrong with a wife taking care of her husband?” She thought to herself as she took note of their peculiar behavior.
Madam Graves tapped her hand and brought her back to reality, “We will give you both some privacy, my dear.” She said quietly, then motioned to the others, “Come. Let’s get out of here. They need some time to themselves.”
They walked towards the door, with the doctor being reluctant to leave the room.
“Do not touch anything,” he uttered coldly, giving her an hostile look, “Young Master Lucian needs his extreme rest.”
With that he followed the rest of the family out, leaving Aria alone in the room.
As soon as the door lock clicked shut, Aria let out a long breath of relief.
“Phew!” She muttered, “Oh Heavens! Deliver me! What on earth have I gotten myself into?”
