Chapter 11 Everything She Ever Had!

Chapter 11 Everything She Ever Had!
Chapter Eleven

Kurt stood straight as the board of directors walked past him towards the small altar where pictures of the Vaughn family were mounted.

At that moment, he looked over at the pictures and his gaze fell on that of Elara.

It was a picture of her staring directly at the camera, her long blonde hair curled beautifully over one shoulder. Her icy blue gaze was very striking and possessed a very intimidating aura.

He blanched, a slight arch of mockery in his eyebrow.

“What a pompous little fool,” he thought mockingly, as he looked at the pictures, “How about you lord it over the devil in hell? Because right now, I’m about to take over everything you’ve ever held dear.”

At that moment, the board of directors finished burning their incense and paying their respects.

Kurt quickly directed his focus to them, putting on the most pious look.

“Thank you so much for coming over Director,” he said in the most calm voice, his expression somber, “Please you can go to the reception and have some meal.”

Vera came up at that moment and showed at the men, “Please come with me sirs,” she said in the most sweet voice.

The men, however, seemed not to be impressed by them. They cleared their throats ominously and walked past them like he wasn’t important.

Some looked him over, and shook their heads, their faces clearly registering displeasure.

As they walked past, Kurt and Vera could hear them mutter to themselves.

“Now, we are saddled with this? What nonsense!”

“It’s such a shame the Vaughn family is gone, and the empire is in the hands of this unknown man here.”

“Do not say that. As long as we are here, we will protect the Vaughn Family legacy.”

None walked over to the reception but instead made their way to the door, and walked out.

Kurt stood ramrod, his hands clenched while the muscles in his jaw bunched tightly from rage.

Vera wanted to walk over to him to soothe him but as she reached out on touch him, he walked past her, making her fingers brush over thin air.

He walked briskly into the restroom and locked the door behind him.

“Rarggh!”he yelled as he slammed his hand against the mirror which hung on the wall.

The mirror shattered and several splinters cut into the skin of his hand, blood staining the shattered glass.

For several seconds, his bloodied fist was on the broken mirror as he stood over the sink, breathing heavily with anger.

In the quiet of his rage, he heard the sound of the door opening quietly. Footsteps came up behind him and a delicate hand reached for his bloodied fist propped against the mirror.

“What are you doing? This is the men’s .” Kurt said gruffly as he took a whiff of a very familiar perfume.

Vera ignored him and Kurt let her take away his hand from the broken mirror.

“We knew it would not come easily,” Vera uttered quietly as she turned on the sink and placed the bloodied fist under it.

Kurt winced, tremors of rage passing through his body, but still he did not make any other sound as he stood beside her, letting her wash the blood and glass splinters away from his hand.

“But we are already half way there,” Vera went on, “Taking Elara out of the picture was the first step. There’s nothing we can’t do now.”

Kurt took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly, “Those cranky old bastards,” he muttered under his breath. He sighed, then took Vera’s hand in his, “Do not worry. They will not be able to do anything to us. We have everything now, so…”

He stopped as Vera took her hands away from his sharply and turned towards the shattered mirror. Her face was set coldly.

“We have everything now, but I can’t feel it.” She raised her hands, looking them over, her voice catching, “I can’t touch it. I can’t taste it,” she sighed tiredly with her eyes closed, “I want to come into everything fully.”

“Yes you will.” Kurt assured her.

“I want everything she ever had,” she went on vindictively, “I want her life. I want it all. She’s gone so why does she still have so much authority over my life? Why does she hover around me everywhere?”

Kurt frowned slightly, trying to see where Vera was heading to. She was deviating wildly and he wanted to comfort her.

Vera turned on the tap and placed her hands under the rushing water. Her movements were calm but her eyes were red rimmed and cold.

It seemed to Kurt that she was as angry as he was, but had come in to comfort him first.

This tugged at his heart and he patted her shoulder, then leaned in to her hugging her fully from behind.

Vera was fuming silently, thinking about the words she had heard those silly women say back in the funeral Hall.

Yes, Elara had her brought from the orphanage and the Vaughn family had raised her all her life.

Why does she have to hear it at every turn?

Yes, Elara was a good and kind soul, and Kurt was the perfect fiancée, the only one fit for her.

But the bitch was dead and long gone and Kurt is now fully hers.

So why does Elara’s name haunt her so much? Why is she still spoken of?

Vera turned off the tap, her hands gripping the porcelain sink tightly

She wanted Elara Vaughn’s name obliterated for life.

Elara was just a woman like her, so why does she get to have everything, even in death?

Those silly shareholders are also eager to protect her legacy.

She let out a shaky breath, “I want it all, Kurt.”

“You will, baby.” Kurt murmured against her neck, nibbling her ears gently, “You will.”

“I want it all. Now.” Vera reiterated, “I want to take over, like it should have been originally. I want it to be like she never existed in the first place.”

She turned in his arms, distracting him from his playing with her ears. Grabbing his face, she looked him square in the eyes and said grimly, “Let it be like Elara Vaughn never existed in the first place.”
