Chapter 16
"19 years old, Ma'am," she answered.
Beth is a working student. Ransom's family allowed her to work in order to support her studies and also help her parents. Because their life in the province is so difficult, her parents cannot afford to send her to school.I know that because they talked about it in the past.
"Of course, Ma'am. I will really prioritize my studies. I don't even have a boyfriend yet, hehe!" she said with a smile.
"That's good," I replied.
"I didn't think that baby Yumi would come into my life. For me, she is a blessing that I didn't ask for but came. I'm so very blessed to have my daughter, Beth," I said to Beth with a smile.
Beth smiled at what I said. I really can't ask for anything more than to raise my daughter well and see her grow up. I will do everything for her and I only wish that her Father and I can get along well.
A few minutes later, Beth said goodbye because she said she had something else to do. She promised to come back soon but I didn't send her back.
"I'll just call you when I need you. Rest first, Beth," I calmly told her.
She thanked me profusely before leaving the room. While I was waiting for Ransom to come out of the bathroom. I was thinking of what to say because I didn't know how to deal with him. Our life is different now because Baby Yumi is here and I don't want her to witness our fight.
After a few seconds, he came out. I drooled at the beauty of his body. Our eyes met at that time. But he avoided looking at me and took clothes from the closet.
"Don't you want to carry our baby?" I asked bravely.
He didn't answer so I scolded him and I forced him to carry our daughter. But I was surprised when he suddenly raised his voice at me in front of our baby.
"Don't you really understand?!" he yelled at me in a loud voice.
"I'm sorry but I hope you don't bully me in front of our daughter," I answered.
"I never wanted to have a daughter. She is not my child!" he said emphatically.
"Baby Yumi is your daughter, so I hope you don't let her hear that you reject her, Ransom," I said crying.
"I want a son not a daughter!" he replied firmly.
I just sighed and feel depressed at what he said.He shook his head and walked away and I was very surprised by what he did.
He slammed the door and stormed out. I took a deep breath to calm myself down.
I can't imagine that his behavior will only get worse now.
I thought there was still hope for him to change. But what I see now is contrary to my expectation.
"I really don't understand him anymore!" I said to myself.
I caressed my daughter’s forehead and kissed her. I apologized for what his father did in front of her.
If only our daughter could understand, I'm sure it hurts her so much to be rejected by her own father.
"Always remember that mother loves you very much, baby," I said emotionally to my daughter as I carried her in my arms.
A few moments later, I laid her down in her crib. She was sleeping soundly and I couldn't stop being emotional while watching her face.I can't be bothered waiting for Ransom.
"Always remember that mother loves you very much, daughter," I emotionally said to my daughter as I carried her in my arms.
"Why are you torturing me like this, Ransom? Why?" I asked myself.
I didn't realize that I fell asleep because I was tired.
I woke up when I realized that I neglected my child because I fell asleep.
I immediately stood up and was surprised to see Beth next to baby Yumi's Crib.
"I came in here Ma'am. I didn't knock again because I think you fell asleep. I don't want to wake you up," Beth said with a smile.
"Thank you, Beth. I'm really sorry if I fell asleep. Maybe I was just too tired," I explained.
"You don't need to explain, Ma'am. It's my obligation to take care of the baby because I'm her
babysitter. I'm paid to do my job well," Beth answered calmly.
"I know, Beth. But as a mother, I prefer to take care of my child," I said.
She smiled at what I said and I did the same to her.
I was suddenly quiet when I remembered Ransom. Beth couldn't avoid asking me about him.
"Where is Sir Ransom? Didn't he come home just now?" Beth asked.
"Ahm, He is back to his work," I answered.
Honestly, it's not easy to lie, especially when I'm not a liar. But I don't want Beth to know that my husband and I are not really okay.
"Beth, can I ask a question?" I asked.
"Of course, Ma'am. What is that?" I asked.
"You think men don't want to have a daughter or a baby girl?" I asked.
He was obviously surprised by my question and her face showed curiosity.
“Is this about Sir Ransom? Does he not like baby Yumi?" she asked directly.
I couldn't answer her question right away. I swallowed saliva and tried to smile at her.
"Ahm, no!" I answered in a panic.
I heard Beth sigh in front of me. She obviously didn't believe what I said.
"Ma'am, it's not that I'm interfering in your husband and wife's relationship. But it's obvious that you and Sir Ransom have a problem," she said seriously.
"If the reason for this is the gender of your child. That should not be an issue. If he loves you, he will accept your child as much as his love for you," she added.
I don't know what to answer her. She has no idea what really happened and I can't tell her. I tried to smile at what she said and thanked her because somehow I could talk to someone. At least my heart felt better.
"Thank you, Beth." I smiled thanks.
"As long as I'm here for you, Ma'am," she replied with a smile.
I want to cry in front of her at those times. I want to release all the pain I feel. But I can't because I don't want to be weak in front of other people. I don't want them to say that I'm so soft and so stupid.
After our conversation, I ordered her to sample the baby's milk downstairs because Yumi was crying. I could not give milk from my breast yet.
"They say breastfeeding is better, Mom. Baby is healthier," Beth advised me.
"I know that, Beth," I answered.
I spent several nights watching over baby Yumi. Meanwhile, Ransom and I were together without saying a word. that's how we set it up. But I still do not lose hope that he will change.
Despite my tiredness, I still do my duty to serve him as a wife.I prepare clothes for him even though he doesn't wear them.
"This is what you wear," I said.
"What right do you have to tamper with my things?!" he said angrily.
"I am your wife so I have the right to take care of you," I answered.
"We are married only on paper. Remember that!" he said firmly.
"No matter what you say, I'm still your wife!" I answered firmly.
This time I didn't give up. I bravely answered him and stood up for being Mrs.Crosby. No matter what he does or says, I'm still his wife.
"You know how to fight now! Are you proud of something?" he asked me angrily.
His two eyebrows met while looking at me. The irritation on his face was evident. But I didn't budge and I had the courage to fight.
