Chapter 42 - Where are your shoes?

Chapter 42 - Where are your shoes?
Raine

Raine was frozen to the spot as she stared back at the man who had ripped away her previous home and caused her to end up here at Runagate. She thought that she was safe here, that he would never find her. They were thousands of miles away from the Orion Valley Pack.

Why was he here!?

Fidelia had told her that he had continued searching for her after she had escaped the cells but they could never figure out why. He had a deep hatred for her, so surely her disappearance should have been a good thing for him. But no he had searched for months and Fidelia was sure he had stopped.

‘Probably only looking because she had bruised his Alpha ego!’ Was what Fidelia had said and she thought he had given up because he thought it wasn’t worth his time anymore and he had to concentrate on his duties.

Fidelia had said he’d given up!

‘Clearly not!’ Raine thought as she was caught in a staring match with the Alpha right at that moment.

She didn’t know what to do! She had just pep-talked Joe into facing his fears and standing his ground but she was not ready to do that. At least Joe had some kind of prior connection and bond, but Raine did not! He hated her for no reason and she feared him! Nothing else!

“Alpha…” She uttered again, trying to figure out whether she was dreaming or not.

A deep and unsatisfied-sounding growl emitted from him causing Raine to jump and finally break away from their staring contest.

She stumbled back a step as she realised she needed help. She whipped her head around looking for help from anyone.

There was no one!

Sigmund had disappeared from the bar! Pixie and the drunken guy had vanished! And there was no security!?

What was happening!?

To the right, Joe was absorbed in his conversation with his mate and had his back to Raine. Raymond quickly glanced up at her and gave her a funny look before looking back at Joe. Was it possible that he knew!?

She could feel her mind panicking as she continued to stumble back.

Another deep growl made Raine’s eyes snap back at the Alpha; who was staring just as intently with those emerald, green eyes and who had now started taking slow and determined steps towards her.

She suddenly felt her back hit the wall and she was trapped with him slowly advancing towards her. She knew the stage door was to her left and only about six feet away. She kept her eyes on the advancing wolf as she made her decision on whether to fight or take flight.

She chose flight!

She managed to half turn in an attempt to make her escape when a hand firmly slammed into the wall centimetres away from her face. She felt her breathing rapidly increase; slowly she turned and was careful to avoid his gaze. She confirmed that his other hand was also placed beside her against the wall.

She was trapped.
'Stupid wolf speed!' She cursed.

Tears pricked the corners of her eyes as she squeezed them tightly shut. She tilted her head down to hide her terrified expression from him.

This was it! He was finally going to get what he wanted! He had hunted her down for years, with nothing but hatred in his heart and now he was going to finally get the chance to kill her and wipe her existence from this world.

She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing her fear before he snuffed her out!

Her only regret was not being able to say goodbye to the people she loved.

Joe would unfortunately be a witness and would be powerless to save her, but hopefully, his mate Raymond would get him to safety and away from this heartless Alpha!

Sylvia would be aimless without her; she started this journey with Raine calling her, her destiny. But surely this was not what destiny had in mind for both of them!? No, Sylvia’s destiny would lead her to somewhere and someone else; without Raine.

Fidelia would be left wondering why her friend no longer messaged her. She hadn’t even managed to get a new phone yet to have sent her one last message! She would most likely hear of her demise when her Alpha brother returned with Raine’s severed head as a trophy! She would be heartbroken!

Then Raine thought of her past, to the people she had loved and still loved. The people she could not see… They would never know what had become of her and she would never get the chance to return home to them…her True Home…She would become nothing but a far-off and distant memory to them. A girl they had once known and cared for who never returned. Who never found a way to save them…

At this final thought, she could no longer hold back her tears and let them freely stream down her cheeks.

She gasped as she heard the Alpha growl, this time it was low like a sound from deep inside his chest. He pushed his body closer and she could feel that they were mere inches apart and she could also feel his minty breath fanning her wet cheeks. A foreign sensation she had only ever felt in his presence ran down her spine and she began to shake in fear.

She jumped when she felt what could only be his hand lightly touch her right cheek. This was it; he was going to do it!

He used this hand to tilt her head up; presumably to see her face but Raine refused to open her eyes! She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing them one last time before he murdered her in cold blood!

She was not prepared for what he did next. She felt what could only be the pad of his thumb slowly rub at her cheek. At first, she was confused, the sensation felt nice and warm despite the given situation and then she realised what he was doing. He was wiping away her tears!? But why? It made no sense, what did it matter to him whether she was crying or not?

The only conclusion she could come to was he had some sinister plan on how he was going to kill her and her crying must be messing with his plans. Or even worse, maybe it was what he was going to do with her after he had killed her that made him want them to stop.

As this thought occurred to her she couldn’t help but let a pitiful whimper escape her lips and this did not please the Alpha. She both heard and felt him growl against her again; making her jump once more.

He got impossibly closer, his body fully pressing against her. His breath got closer, his hand stayed on her cheek and she felt his face move to the opposite side of her neck.

‘This is it!’ She thought. He was moving in to tear out her throat, in true werewolf style. She clenched her teeth and did her best to stop shaking, she was determined not to scream or react when he finally ended her life!

He moved his face right into the crook of her neck, where her shoulder met her neck. She heard him take a deep inhale of her and then let out a strange sort of satisfied-sounding grumble from deep within his chest, which vibrated through her own. She fought that strange sensation which made her want to shiver.

He then moved even closer and she could feel the stubble on his face against her skin. She braced herself, waiting for the pain of his wolf teeth tearing into her and ultimately ending her.

But she never felt any pain.

Instead, she felt the unmistakable sensation of his lips pressing against that spot on her neck and then his tongue as he tasted the area and let out a strange groan. She could no longer hold back the sensation that caused a strange spark-like sensation to run down her spine and make her shiver. He continued to lap away at her neck as she stayed pressed against the wall in utter confusion.

A strange fog filled her brain as her body began to heat up and she fought the urge to pant. What was happening? Was this some kind of preparation for his attack? It wasn’t one she had ever seen or heard of. She tried her best to keep sharp but his assault on her neck was making it very hard and the fog grew thicker.

She felt her legs start to give way from the amount of trembling she was doing, but the Alpha was quick to react, removing his hand from her cheek and using both to lift her and hook her knees over his hips. He kept her pinned against the wall and his assault on her neck never faltered.

She was so confused, what the hell was happening!? Was this to lure her into a false sense of security? Or a final bit of pleasure before ending her?

Whatever it was, she couldn’t hold her voice in any longer and was embarrassingly surprised when a moan escaped her lips.

The Alpha suddenly stopped but stayed with his head resting in the crook of her neck and he was breathing hard. She was sure at that moment that she was going to die of embarrassment and would save him all the trouble.

But he did something that made her freeze and forced her eyes to fly open.

He moved from her neck, up to her ear and in a low and deep voice he whispered something against her ear that she never thought she would hear.

“Where are your shoes..?” She felt his voice rumble through his chest and into her. But he wasn’t finished as he purred, “…Little Mate.”
