Chapter 84 Part 2
Cain
The weeks since meeting and mating with the girls our life had felt fuller. We were now satisfied knowing our mates. They were constantly keeping us on our toes. We had observed the exchanging of power only a handful of times, each time scarier than the last time. Though we had found a way around the power exchange, keeping them together but separate. Though I had a bad feeling that somehow one or both of them were draining the other. The looks in their eyes lately had both Abel and I on our toes.
We had tried multiple times to take them off the border patrol roster only to be told that night that they were again on the roster. By the end of the week we had stopped trying. Yet the tired expressions on their faces the last few days had me rethinking about having them continue. With them picking up more training times, I wanted them to take a break. They were always on the go.
Seeing Reign struggling during the meeting to stay away, I had made the decision to remove them from the Roster. IF not long term at a minimum for the next couple of nights.
After the meeting ended I approached Abel and Alpha Samuel.
“Hey, can I talk to you two?” I stuttered out my question.
“Yeah, what is up Cain?” Alpha Samuel said as Abel looked at me questionly.
“Have you two noticed the girls? Do they seem off to you?” I asked them. I still hated to talk due to my stutter but when I was around these people they were like my family and made me feel like I no longer had a stutter.
“Yeah, what is up with that? They seem distracted and tired.” Alpha Samuel said.
“They almost seem like they are sick. It's a little nerve racking. I thought about talking to you about it tonight. But since we are talking about it, what do you think that we should do?” Abel said, looking between Alpha Samuel and I.
“I think we need to take them off the patrol roster. With taking on the other responsibilities I want to ensure that they are getting adequate sleep.” I said looking to Abel, relaying a hidden message that we would have to lessen up on the sexual explotes so that our mates could finally get some rest.
“That sounds good. How are my sisters doing? Giving you two a run for your money are they?” Alpha Samuel asked, chuckling.
“Not any more than our sister is giving you a run for yours.” Abel said laughing.
“Yeah but I only have one to deal with. You have both of them.” Alpha Samuel chuckled to himself.
“True. But the thing is Reign grounds Remmie out. Gabi has her, and her 101 different personalities. Not a single one of them works as a grounding agent.” Abel said.
“If that isn’t the truth” Alpha Samuel said.
“I heard that, you sons of bitches. And you better start running. SAMUEL, your ass is in the damn dog house out back.” Gabi said as we began to walk faster.
Looking at our mates I was wondering what we had done in our past lives that would bring about such wonderful mates. But the look on their faces said that they were either up to something or planning something. And if anything came from the pallet gun incident was that we were always observing their little quirks.
Linking them I reminded them of what was at stake.
‘Secrets do not keep friends. Keep it up you two and when I get your asses back to the room I will tie your asses up and paddle them.’ I linked them, reminding them of the hooks that I had installed for the purposes of tying up my mate.
After linking them, Abel and I looked to one another knowing full well what would be happening. They were gonna bolt. Laughing Abel and I began to walk with a purpose towards our room. We laughed as we watched the girls dart into the apartment.
Reaching our apartment door the dark and eerie feeling came back over me. Looking towards Abel, I could tell that he too felt the darkness. Quickly we unlocked the door. Yet as we unlocked the door, I heard the soft whimpers. Opening up the mind link to Abel we both heard Reign in a soft plea call out.
‘Cain, h..he..help.’
Rushing up the stairs, Abel and I made it in record time to the room. Though we could not see the girls anywhere.
“Abe, Call Gabi. Get Doc and her mother here now.” I yelled out as I began to sniff at the Amore. Locating Remmie I quickly grabbed her and moved her to the bed just as Abel had grabbed Reign and moved her to the bed.
“I am going to go unlock the door and hold it open.” Abel said. I continued to pace back and forth around the room. I was worried.
“WHAT THE FUCK IS TAKING HIM SOOO LONG!?” I yelled out. The doctor for the compound was one of the best. I knew that he was getting older but that did not excuse him being slow.
‘You are being irrational Cain.’ Adrian said coming forth.
‘Damnit look at them Adrian. Tell me what you want me to do. They are unconcious, drained of all energy and looking like they haven’t slept in the last year. So you tell me what I should be doing if I am being so “irrational”’ I said back to him.
‘Well if you are going to be that way I guess I won’t tell you. Dumbass. Guess you’ll just have to wait until the doc gets here and finally figures it out.’ Adrian replied as he sulked off towards the corner of my mind and walked around in circles before lying down in a ball using his black tail with tan one the underside over his snout and eyes.
‘Adrian so help me if you know what is wrong with them and you don’t tell me I will chain your ass to the tree the next blue moon.’ Huffing a chuckle at me Adrian just raised his head before laying it back down. The grumpy, temperamental asshole constantly grated on my ass.
I was surprised to see instead of doc coming running in it was Mari and Marcus carrying in their medical bags. Following them was Remmie and Reign's mother and father. Gabriella and Alpha Samuel came in followed closely by the doctor and Abel.
“Can you tell us what happened?” Mari asked to go into full doctor mode.
“They have been tired lately and we were worried about them. We kept trying to remove them from the patrol roster but somehow they kept getting put on it. I swear we tried to get them to take it easier. That is why we asked Alpha Samuel to change the schedule. Didn’t we? We asked you to take them off the schedule.” I said finally breaking. The fear coursing through me had me worried that they would never wake up. That somehow we had lost our mates.
“Cain. Cain. Look at me.” Mari said, snapping her fingers in front of my face. “They are fine. Just sleeping. Okay?” Mari said before returning to their care talking to the other doctor and Reign and Remmie’s mother.
“We don’t blame you son. Those two can sometimes drain themselves. Their greatest fault, sometimes in the course of taking care of others they fail to take care of themselves and listen to their bodies or more importantly their wolves.” Alpha Raymond said as he laid a comforting hand on my shoulder, gripping it tightly.
As I stood in place shaking with fear, Abel appeared to be calm. Growing intensely angry I had decided to have it out with him. I couldn’t believe that as he said their smirking our mates laid in our bed unconscious.
‘Dude, wipe that shit eating smile off your face before I wipe off of you. Do you not care that while your sitting their smirking our mates are obviously not okay?’ I linked him while glaring at him.
‘Dude, cool. Adrian didn’t tell you?’ Abel said.
‘Obviously not or I wouldn’t be sitting here threaten everyone.’
‘Adrian said you were a dick and didn’t deserve to know. We are not to tell you.’ Replied Caleb.
“Can everyone clear the room, we would like to talk to Cain and Abel please.” Mari said as the other doctor standing next to her nodded his head. Meanwhile Marcus was setting both Remmie and Reign up with IV fluids.
Agreeing all those that had quickly entered our apartment all left to go downstairs and wait in our sitting area. Shutting the door I looked to Abel and then back to the doctors as I kept the corner of my eyes on my mates still being set up for IV fluids.
“Is it usual for your mates to suffer from loss of energy?” Doc asked.
“No. But they do have this thing. They say they have had it from birth. I don’t know what it is called but they said it was them sharing a life force. They have the occasion to steal each other's life energy. Most of the time it is Remmie..” I began to stammer but the doc was just shaking his head.
“With the fact that they are both unconscious I would have to say that this is not the issue. But that being said it does tell me what is most likely the cause. I am just surprised that your wolves didn’t tell you first.” Doc stated looking between Abel and I before settling on the girls.
“Then what do you suspect that it is?” I asked.
“Confer with your wolves but I am pretty sure that they are pregnant. With them having the special ability to harness life energy, It says that your pups do as well. They right now are sucking the life energy from your mates. Your wolves should be able to sense your pups and may even be able to communicate with them. Though it may still be early. Just keep trying to contact them and tell them that they are taking too much from their mommies. Of course I do want to confirm this first thing tomorrow. So please ensure that your mates are at the hospital so that we can do a proper diagnosis and imaging. But congratulations Boys you are going to be papas.”
Shocked, stunned and confused I looked around the room first at the doctors, then to Marcus who was grinning from ear to ear. Then to Mari who was shaking her head up and down. My gaze finally made it to Abel that looked shocked as well but not to the extent that I was.
“Thhhh.. th..Their pregnant?” I said. And for the first time in my life my stuttering didn’t come from my speech impediment but the shock and worry that fully consumed me.
