Chapter 12
I was running and running. Toying with me had become a hobby of that vampire. The fear was gone. I knew these demons would not kill me.
I was like a lamb that they would just chase. Sometimes I would get tired and bored. I would lay down on the daisy fields exhaustedly.
They would come to me and poke me with their shovels. I would just act up a bit," please don't kill me" and fall back to sleep again.
They had started providing me with food as well. It was not long ago, one night when I returned to my cell, I saw fresh fruits on my bed. At first, I did not eat thinking it could be poisoned with something to put me into a state to spill everything.
But then I realized I did not know how to reverse that mana barrier. Even if they killed me, they would not get a single important piece of information regarding that academy.
But they were not that cheap. The fruits were perfectly fine and with the purpose to just let me eat. Guessed that vampire really wanted to keep me as his pet.
I was kept inside the castle that was far away from the other castles. And when I would roam in the woods, I was also not allowed to go near the other castles. The surprising fact was that I had not seen other vampires near my castle. I never saw Chris and Felix having a meal either.
Humans were on the verge of extinction. They would not get human blood to feed on. I wondered what they were eating to live.
Soon enough my restrictions lessened. I was now allowed to move freely inside the castle. There weren't any guards inside the castle. Only Chris and Felix as his butler.
But I knew they did not need any guards. The whole territory was filled with skilled demon monsters outside. They were not killing me because they were not ordered to do so. The moment I would step outside the castle, they would rip me apart into pieces.
I was getting bored. Since the monsters would not hunt me down anymore, I would get plenty of times to rest in the daisy fields in the daytime. So, it was getting hard to sleep at night. The winter was coming. The bed was cold. I did not have anything to cover myself. I slowly got up.
I decided to take a look inside the castle. I came out of my cell tiptoeing. Though it was unnecessary. I was allowed to move inside the castle.
The castle was filled with ancient paintings. The furniture was old and looked like cottage-core.
But it was surprisingly clean. Not a single grain of dust was visible on their surface.
I came near the spiral wooden stairs. I gulped looking above. Chris had his bedchamber on the second floor. And Felix's right next to him.
I was fighting inside if I should go up or not. I exhaled deeply. Since the day they gave me independence I was looking for clues. I was trying my best how to get out of here. I did not let them understand anything. But deep inside I was analyzing everything related to Chris. Who knew a mere hint could give me the idea of how to destroy him for good?
Tiptoeing I came to the second floor. It was huge just like the first floor. Numerous hall rooms and corridors. Fresh flowers were put on the vases in the corridor. The fragrance was enchanting. I was feeling like I was in a dream. While roaming around I came to a large door. It was slightly opened. Heavy works on the door frame. A slight sound came to my ears from inside. I got curious.
I peeked inside curiously. I was struck. I did not expect to see something like that. I took back steps quickly. What did I just see?
I came back to my cell hastily. I was sweating. I took a deep breath. I lied down on my bed slowly.
The scenario kept swerving in my mind again and again. I saw Chris holding Felix into his arms. His pair of canines were pierced deep into Felix's neck. Felix's was standing there stiffly. Chris was drinking like a hungry animal. His eyes had turned red. They were glowing in the dark. Suddenly his eyes fell into mine.
But he did not stop. He continued what he was doing, looking at me. His eyes were started glowing more. He did not move his gaze either. He kept looking at me with those burning red eyes.
Blood was dripping from both side of his mouth and the pierce on Felix's neck.
I closed my eyes. That was weird. Why would he drink Felix's blood? I could not sleep. I kept rolling on my bed rest of the night. I did not know how to face them in the morning.
The next morning, as usual I came out of the castle. But unlike the other days, I did not see any demon monsters prepared to chase me down the whole day. Confusedly I started to sniff. But there was no trace of anything. I got up on the tree, tried to look behind the bushes. But none was there.
I came into the front garden of the palace. Winter was approaching. The vampire territory was already misty everywhere. I wondered how it would look in the winter.
I saw Felix in the garden. Picking up fresh flowers for the vases inside the castle that I saw last night. It hit me right away, what I observed the night before.
My face turned red. I turned back not to face Felix. Before I could leave, Felix spoke up.
"It's your day off," he said calmly while continuing doing what he was doing earlier.
"What?” I stopped and looked back at him.
Felix stopped and turned to me. “The demons won't hunt you today," he said. A faint smirk was printed on his face.
My eyes automatically went to his neck where he was bitten last night. He was in a black suit. The tab collar and the necktie shaped in a bow was covering his neck.
"Roaming around at night is dangerous," noticing me gazing at his neck, he smirked and said calmly.
I hastily looked away. He leaned close to me. "If you will wander around at night, you might see things that you shouldn't," he said.
His voice was low and cold. I felt a chill deep down my spine. "My lord wishes to meet you today," he said. "I will show you the way after I finish my job here."
Saying so he casually again took the scissors and started cutting the flowers. I was still standing there stiffly. He also knew that I was there the previous night.
"Would you mind helping me?" He asked me.
I came out of my thoughts. I awkwardly nodded and took another basket and started picking them with my hands.
"Careful, these flowers are very wild," he just warned me.
But within a second, I cut my finger with the thorns.
I cried out in pain. It was a small cut yet irreversible. The continuous healing in my insides due to being chased down every day by the monsters had slowed the process of my healing of the wounds externally.
A small drop of blood appeared on my finger. "It's nothing. I will help you out. Just let me put some water on it," saying so I looked at Felix.
But my eyes widened. Felix was starting at my cut. His eyes were glowing. Just like how Chris's eyes were glowing the previous night. He was breathing fast looking at the blood.
I quickly fisted my hand. He was acting strange. I had always known that vampires despise wolf blood. Then why would he get excited seeing mine?
I gulped and took a step back. "I will wash my hands later. I should go back to my cell," I said to him awkwardly.
But he did not seem like he was listening. His eyes were fixed on my fist. Before I could take another step back, he grabbed my wrist. He pulled me close to him and forced his arm on my waist, preventing me from getting away.
He forced me to open my fist and took a look at the blood that was still in my palm. And then he did something unexpected. He sniffed it. His eyes started glowing more.
"The fragrance had gotten stronger than last time," he said in a husky tone. "It shouldn't be like this. I can see why he lost control," he said.
"Wha-what are you talking about?" I asked mumbling.
His eyes returned to normal. He came back to his senses. He let go of me. Right after coming back to his old self, he grabbed the jar of water and poured it all into my hand making all the blood wash away.
"You should not bleed in front of him," he said.
"But why? I thought your kind hates wolves. I have never heard of a vampire getting excited by a wolf's blood," I asked him, frowning.
"My lord doesn't need blood to survive. If it was about survival, of course, a wolf's blood wouldn't stand a chance. But do you believe a thousand-year-old vampire needs blood to survive?" He leaned close to me and asked.
"Then what were all those things last night about? I saw him biting you. Why was he drinking another vampire's blood?" I asked him confusedly.
"His bride will turn 18 in a few days. Getting excited and craving for blood is natural at a time like this," he said.
I wanted to ask a few more things. But he did not give me the chance. He made a gesture indicating me to follow him.
I followed him inside the castle. He took me to the room where I saw them together last night. He knocked. My wolf was getting agitated. I tried to calm it.
Chris's voice came from inside. "Enter."
Felix wide opened the door and showed me the way. I stepped inside. The bedchamber was way different from the other rooms in that castle. It was aesthetically pleasing to see. Unlike the other rooms, it was white. White curtains, beautiful expensive furniture was covering the whole room. A king-sized bed in the middle.
I saw Chris standing near the massive window. He was in a long white robe covering his whole body hanging loosely near his shoulders, exposing his bare chest, making it look paler.
His masculine features were screaming under the thin fabric. He turned back to come face to face with us.
"Oh!" He frowned and pretended as if he was not aware that I was coming with Felix.
"Do you know why I called you here instead of letting the monsters chase you?" He asked.
I shook my head on my sides making it clear that I wasn't aware of it. My wolf was acting weird that day since morning. At first, I ignored her. But she was getting out of control. I did not know what she was feeling and the reason behind it. But I had never seen my wolf getting impatient like that. Chris started talking but I was barely being able to concentrate. My head was feeling dizzy.
"I am giving you the one last chance. Either you spill everything you know about that academy, or I will have to just—" Chris could not finish.
I cried out in pain. I grabbed my abdomen and fell on my knees. I was crying. Chris and Felix were dumbfounded. They were looking at each other not understanding what was happening.
I was feeling it. I started to feel this since Liliana went back to the pack with Eris. I was feeling that our bond was slowly weakening. It was breaking. I could tell each moment Eris might have touched Liliana affectionately. I lost my zeal to run away the very first day Eris rejected me. I was a beta wolf. Only an alpha could survive another alpha's rejection.
Since I was a beta, his rejection would kill me eventually. If it was beta on both sides, he would die as well. The sole reason why wolves could never reject each other and bound to live the rest of their lives together. But Eris was free of this. He would live a perfect life together with his new mate when I would die and rot in hell.
I was feeling the pain. My wolf was crawling in pain. Chris and Felix were still standing there clueless.
"Call the witches!" Chris ordered. Felix was looking at his face confusedly.
The witches would only treat the vampires. They hated the wolves. Felix could not believe Chris was asking him to call the witches. But he did not waste a second. Soon he shifted into his Phoenix form and left.
Chris was looking at me. I was crying. I barely formed words. "My mate—" My tears were not stopping. I cried out again, "he broke our bond!"
I could not tell what exactly Eris had done. But my wolf had gone crazy. He had broken our bond. He had done something that was forbidden. He would not feel the consequence since he was an alpha. But my life force was diminishing.
I kept sobbing lying on the ground. I could not explain how much pain I was suffering. Suddenly I felt a pair of cold hands around my body. My life force was leaving my body rapidly. I could not keep my senses anymore. I slowly fell back into deep unconsciousness.
