Chapter 218 Big Dreams
Chapter 218 Big Dreams
Laurette’s POV
I was like a child going on a trip to Disneyland the next morning. Hopping into the car with an excited squeal, I rubbed my fingers together in anticipation for us to hit the road. And when we finally did, I spent the entire journey with my face pressed against the window and my eyes following the cars and trees running backwards. The smile on my face kept growing to the point that it began to feel like my face was going to freeze and have me smiling permanently, but yet I couldn’t stop it.
The excitement.
Hosea had snuck glances at me every now and then, shaking his head and smiling to himself as he observed my barely contained excitement. The moment the enormous metal gates of the university came into view, I could no longer keep my mouth closed.
“Christ… it’s huge”. I breathed as we drove past the gates, and I watched as Hosea exchanged acknowledging nods to the security guards. They smile and wave him in, which I’m certain wouldn’t be the same welcome a regular person would get.
According to the aspirants forum, Brookston was very strict with their entry policy and didn’t let anyone without an ID into the school premises. But I didn’t even need to ask why Hosea was let in so easily.
I’ve done my research, and I still remember very clearly how shocked I was to find that Hosea’s late mom was the founder. Even before that, I remember Dorian warning me of how big of a name ‘Larsen’ was here in Brookston.
Although I sort of underestimated the “Bigness”.
I conceal a smile as I look back outside the window. “It’s so beautiful…”. I breathe, taking in the trees and sculptures lining the street. Every department in the school had a sculpture dedicated to them, mounted and carved by students of course.
There were a few students loitering around on the streets and on lounging with friends on the dividing lawn.
I knew from the forum that the students were currently on vacation, which probably explains the sparse population.
Yes, I follow every uploaded update as though I were a student already. It was my own way of pushing myself everyday towards my goal, and reminding myself of the reason for my efforts at school.
Hosea drove slowly around the institution, allowing me enough time to drink in the view. And I did just that. I practically glued my face to the glass window as my eyes took in every building, every fountain, every tree, every structure.
I could already see myself running swiftly down the pretty streets with my books in my hands and my bag falling off my shoulders as I hurried to my classes. Or laughing my ass off on the grass with the two or three friends I’ve managed to make. Or being sad over a test I bombed or a presentation I flopped, then motivating myself to do it better next time.
Because that is what college was about. That is what it meant to me. It was a new beginning. Filled with endless possibilities.
“You want to go in now?” Hosea’s voice is what pulls me from my thoughts, and the moment I register what he says, I’m veering off the window to face him with wide eyes and a gasp.
“Can we?”
Hosea’s doesn’t respond immediately as slows the car to a stop, unfastening his seatbelt and flashing me a wry smile before climbing out of the car. He leaves me looking stunned as he rounds the front of the car and comes to pull my door open. “We could try”. He says, resting his arm at the top of my door. “See if they care enough to stop us”.
I take a moment to run my eyes over Hosea’s face, his brows that are held up in question, sporting a tiny scar between them that I imagine he must have gotten from the fight yesterday. With his body backing the sun, his blue eyes assumes a much more darker shade as he looks me over as well.
I nibble on my bottom lip as I come to the silent conclusion that I would much rather stare at him for the rest of the day than the school I have wanted to enroll in since I discovered it existed.
“Are you still with me?” He asks, pressing the pads of his fore and middle finger to the middle of my brows. “Lost you for a second there.” He flashes me yet another ridiculously angelic smile, looking over the car and into the building we are packed in front of before looking back at me. “Do you not want to?”
“Of course I want to”. I breathe, climbing out of the car as well. “I’m dying to see it.”
He gives me a curious look for half a second before shutting the door and taking my hand. We walked in through the heavy looking double doors, and I took in the dimly lit hallway that gave me the first view of what Brookstoon U. looks like on the inside. I notice how it is a mixture of both ancient and modern decor, with the ancient architecture taking dominance. The only splash of the modern feature would be the illuminated screens that rest on wooden stands in front of every door and sculpture.
It is like something from dark academia that has a little bit of contemporary architecture sprinkled in it.
It was beautiful.
Hosea and I walked to the end of the hall and turned the corner, with me eyeballing every piece of wood in my path. I slow to a stop in front of a particular screen that shows the pictures of the “pioneering students” of a specific aircraft project, humming thoughtfully as I scroll through their photos. They were a total of about twenty students, and staring at them filled me with the hope that one day I might end up on a screen just like this as a result of my efforts.
“See anyone you recognize?” Hosea asks, coming to stand closer to me. He watches me stare at the screen with a proud look in his eyes, and an intensity that catches me off guard when I eventually straighten up to look at him.
I breathe. “Of course not.”
“Why do you make it sound so farfetched?” Hosea’s voice is small as he closes the space between us, his hands wrapping around my waist. The hallway is empty, giving the illusion of privacy, but there are numerous doors on each side of the hallway that anyone could just slip out of anywhere.
Hosea doesn’t share my concern in the slightest because he only pulls me closer even more, nuzzling into my neck.
“It’s not… farfetched…”. My words die in my throat when Hosea nibbles on my collarbone, his hands traveling slowly to my ass.
All thoughts of being caught is out the window as I arch my neck for him, eyes falling shut. But my ecstasy is snatched away the moment a voice tears through the hallway.
“Larsen? Larsen! It is you! What are you doing here??”
