Chapter 55 When Light Breaks Darkness
Chapter 55 When Light Breaks Darkness
The explosion of power swallowed everything. Silver light burst outward from Zoe like a star collapsing and being reborn in the same breath. It tore through the cave, through Morgana’s darkness, through the very air itself.
For a moment, there was nothing but blinding white.
Zack couldn’t see, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move; all he felt was her, her power and her presence. It was overwhelming, but terrifyingly beautiful. Celeste… Zeus whispered, awed. When the light began to fade, the cave was… different, cracked and shattered. The ancient walls are barely holding together, and at the centre, Zoe stood, unmoved, untouched, and her silver eyes blazing like twin moons.
Morgana was on the ground. For the first time, broken. Her body flickered between solid and mist, unstable, like her power had been ripped apart from the inside. She coughed, dark blood spilling from her lips. “…What… have you…Become?” she rasped. Zoe’s voice came low. “Something you should have feared.” Zack stepped forward cautiously. “Zoe…?” She didn’t look at him, not yet, because her focus was entirely on Morgana.
“You wanted me to remember,” Zoe said, taking a slow step forward. “You wanted the version of me that sealed him away.” Morgana laughed weakly. “…Yes…” Zoe’s expression hardened. “You got her.” The ground trembled again, but this time, it wasn’t Morgana; it was Zoe. The hybrid watched silently, something unreadable in his eyes. “You’re finally whole,” he said quietly, and Zoe didn’t respond. But something in her posture confirmed it.
Morgana pushed herself up slightly, trembling. “You think this changes anything?” she spat. “You still won’t kill me.” Zoe stopped just in front of her. Close enough that their powers clashed in the air between them. “You’re right.” Morgana smiled weakly. “I know.” Zoe leaned down slightly. “But not for the reason you think.” Zack frowned. “What is she doing…?” Lucas muttered, “I have a bad feeling about this.” Jacob didn’t speak; he just watched because he understood. Zoe wasn’t hesitating, she was choosing.
Zoe’s hand lifted. Silver light wrapped around Morgana’s throat—not choking, not crushing, containing. Morgana’s eyes widened. “…What are you—”
“Ending this,” Zoe said simply. The light tightened, not violently, but absolutely. Morgana struggled—but it didn’t matter; her power… was being suppressed, drained, and neutralised. “You don’t get to die,” Zoe said quietly. Morgana froze “What?” Zoe’s gaze didn’t waver “Death is too easy.”
Zack blinked “…Okay, that’s new.” James raised a brow. “I kind of like this version of her.” Jacob didn’t react because this was a strategy. Zoe tightened her grip slightly.
“You’ve spent centuries manipulating, hiding, destroying lives from the shadows,” Zoe said. “That ends now.” Morgana’s voice shook. “You can’t contain me.” Zoe’s eyes glowed brighter “Watch me.” The silver light expanded, wrapping around Morgana completely, layer after layer, sealing her and binding her.
Morgana screamed, not in rage or defiance, but in fear. The cave shook violently. Cracks are spreading across the ceiling, rocks are falling, and the barrier is collapsing completely. “Zoe!” Zack shouted. “We need to go—now! Zoe didn’t move; she held the seal steady, focused and precise. The hybrid stepped closer. “You’re binding her to this place.” Zoe nodded faintly. “She won’t leave this cave again.” He watched her carefully. “…That will cost you.”
Zoe didn’t deny it “I know.” Zack’s chest tightened “Zoe, stop—” Zoe finally turned her head slightly toward him. For just a second, her eyes softened “I’ve got this.” That was all she said, but it was enough. Zack clenched his fists, trusting her. Even when it scared the hell out of him. The seal completed, with a final pulse—The silver light locked into place.
Morgana’s form froze inside it, trapped and contained, her eyes still burned with hatred, but she couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, couldn’t escape. Silence fell. Zoe’s body swayed, just slightly. Zack moved instantly, catching her before she could fall. “Zoe!” Her eyes flickered, the glow dimming. “I’m okay…” she murmured weakly. Zack didn’t believe her, not for a second. Lucas exhaled loudly, “Well… that was intense.” Jacob stepped closer, studying the seal “She’s contained.”
The hybrid nodded, “For now.” Zack shot him a look. “For now?” The hybrid met his gaze. “Nothing like her stays contained forever.” Zoe groaned softly. Zack looked down at her. “Don’t you dare pass out.” She gave a faint, tired smile. “No promises.” The cave shook again, louder this time, the ceiling cracking dangerously. “We need to leave,” Jacob said firmly. “Now.”
Zack didn’t hesitate; he lifted Zoe into his arms “I’ve got her.” Lucas nodded. “Let’s move!” They ran as fast as they could. Just as they reached the entrance, the cave collapsed behind them, rocks crashing, dust filling the air, the ground trembling violently beneath their feet. The entrance sealed shut, the silver glow flickered faintly beneath the rubble. Silence.
Zack stopped a few feet away, still holding Zoe, his chest heaving. He looked down at her. She was pale, exhausted, but alive. Jacob stepped beside him “She did it.”
Zack nodded slowly, “Yeah…” Lucas ran a hand through his hair. “She just took down a psycho ancient witch and sealed her like it was nothing.” James shook his head. “It wasn’t anything.” He looked at Zoe again “It cost my sister something”
The hybrid stood nearby, watching quietly and unreadably. Zoe stirred slightly in Zack’s arms. Her eyes fluttered open. “Did we win…?” Zack let out a breath. “Yeah.” A small, tired smile touched her lips. “Good…” Her eyes closed again. This time, she didn’t fight it. Zack tightened his hold on her. “You’re not doing that again,” he muttered. Lucas smirked. “You say that like she listens.” Zack didn’t respond because they both knew she didn’t.
Jacob turned toward the pack. “We head back. Now.” Everyone nodded, moving quickly and carefully as they walked away. The forest slowly began to breathe again, the weightlifting, the danger… gone for now. But deep beneath the rubble—
Inside the silver prison, Morgana’s eyes still glowed, faint, unyielding and waiting.
And somewhere deep within Zoe, something had awakened, not just power or her memory, but something older, stronger and far from finished. Because of this, it wasn’t the end, it was only the beginning.
