Chapter 69 It's an explosion
Chapter 69 It's an explosion
Harry's POV
I swallowed, my throat burned as I widened my eyes at the fridge.
"That was 15 years ago, everyone forgot about the incident!" I protested slamming the fridge and turning in the direction of the kitchen.
Cold runs down my spine as memories flood my head. I couldn't hear wails, panics, and cries.
My legs shook as I couldn't breathe with the voices suddenly ringing in my head.
"No, I just discovered he's the boy...the one you saved from being captured during the raid."
"Damien?" I muttered, sweating and trying hard to regain my breath, as my chest thudded.
"I don't really know Harry. Can you not really recall that night? The very reason why you left the Knight Blade pack, all because you were guilty..."
"Harry?" A serene voice called, and I moved my eyes to look at him. The kid who looks scared is staring at me.
"Chris?" I muttered, lowering the phone with tears in my eyes.
His posture, the fear in his eyes, as though he was judging me.
Now the face looks lucid, I could see this Damien in the kid, just that he was a lot bigger then.
His fierce gaze at me, and even when I tried to offer him solace by taking him away from the chaos, he made an attempt to stab me.
His words were;
"I'd find you, wherever you are and drag your heads to their graves, all of you!"
I'm a monster.
"Harry?" Sam muffled through the phone that now rests on my thigh.
"I..."
I didn't even know who to respond to but then I could tell Sam had terminated the call because I wasn't responding.
Chris just stood there, like he was frozen, like he had heard everything, and those eyes, they terrified me.
My feet move and adrenaline pumps in my body. A part I want to forget, it's suddenly coming back... everything.
Chris suddenly ran to embrace me, like he knew I needed it and I tried hard to fight back my tears.
"What's wrong, Harry?" he asked, burying his head in my torso and panting softly.
I shook my head, still stiff and startled, while inhaling hard.
The past was coming back, and if it's truly Damien, then I know there's no escaping.
"I'm fine, dear, I'm just shocked you woke up when I hadn't prepared breakfast," I said, switching my cold voice into a lighter one.
I tried to recollect myself as I placed the phone inside the back of my pants, with a heavy heart, I still stroked him gently on the back.
"It's nothing to be sad about...I had another dream or should I say a nightmare?" He asked slowly as he raised his head up and up to look me directly in the eyes.
My muscles tensed as I gulped hard, feeling all mousey with that intense gaze of his.
It's like he's memorizing the lines on my face, reading something, trying to bring out something but keeps failing.
"It's the bad guys, Harry, they're close," he furthered, and my body shook.
For a moment, the world stopped rotating, everything slowed, and even time forgot its purpose as I just stared at the kid.
"This time around, you were captured...and it's scary. I saw a past attached to you...like blood and killings and kids running to you for safety," he narrates, and I almost choked, darting my gaze away from him.
I needed to stop him as his words were bringing more fragments of the past to life.
"Chris, Chris, it's just a nightmare, right?" I began cutting him short midway and letting out air from my mouth.
He didn't give a response or a sign that proves he understands.
"Good, mine is scarier," I joked, but it only made him petrified and widen his eyes at me.
"But I punched the bad guys and warned them to stay away from my boys!" I affirmed, drawing closer to him with a smile while my hands tickled him.
He giggles, trying to take my hands away from him, but then even if I put on the facade of a happy man, I still had that guilt, that pain, and grief of the past.
I should have stopped them.
"So dear, don't get worked up, it's just a phase, it will soon pass away," I encouraged, rubbing his back.
"Alright," he agrees, pulling a frown like I don't believe him. My mind was restless as he fell his head back.
Even if I tried not to be jittery, I still couldn't control how my body trembled.
The name keeps repeating in my head like it's stuck and not even my eyes are settled.
Yet I doubt I'd panic if I saw him face-to-face.
After refraining from the embrace, I chased him back to the room to brush his teeth while promising to be done before he appeared.
Once he was gone, I channeled all my concentration on preparing an omelet but still considering the words of Sam.
What should I do? Have a conversation with him? It will only trigger more bitter memories.
I hope he hasn't told Rosie yet. I didn't want her to look at me with hate and the boys, they'd run away, like I'm the devil.
Casting my mind from the thoughts of Damien again, I moved to set the dining table, and before I was done, the boys rushed out.
"Yup! It's so tantalizing!" Colton compliments as his legs scurry to the table.
I smiled at him, even if it was a forced one. He jumped on a chair, shrugged his shoulders, and giggled.
Chris was calm as he ran his fingers through his hair before it connected to his face.
He's fond of that habit.
"Omelet," he just said, crawling to sit beside Colton, who was already clapping his hands before I served him.
He doesn't like it, but I was sure to prepare what he likes, crunchy bread. Once his eyes spot the bread, he lets out a bright smile.
They were just a bundle of joy, commenting on the meal and chuckling.
Even if I was tense, their tender act would only make me relax like there's nothing wrong.
I'd protect the boys, I promise.
While serving them their various meals for breakfast, the doorbell suddenly rings.
It interrupted us, and all eyes were thrown in the direction of the door.
"I'd attend to that," I offered, rising from my chair, winking at the boys, and strode towards the door.
My hands had gripped the doorknob, and there was a sudden energy I felt, like I'd never see the boys again.
Like it's the end. I slowly shifted my gaze to the boys who were cracking by the table, banging their plates, and the next sound I heard was a blast!
It's...an explosion!
