Chapter 28
"Good Morning, Love." Kevin's tender kiss on my forehead and scent welcomed me to my beautiful reality.
If I had expected my Alpha to be in bed with me, his breaths warming my cheeks up and his arms around my waist, then that expectation was a dream.
My eyes faintly opened to his sweet smile as he sat beside me. Dressed in a white and blue jean. His hair wasn't messy as usual but neatly styled and his eyes gleamed of joy. In them, it mirrored last night, and a smile slowly found its way to my lips.
"Good Morning." I said in a whisper as I stretched a little, pulling the white blanket a little inches to my neck.
"How was your night?" He asked while he gently caressed my cheek. I almost quivered from the series of sparks coursing throughout my body. They were intensified, perhaps because we finally bonded as one.
"Lovely." I remarked and his smile deepened. Last night changed it all, as Kevin marked me, I could understand what he was feeling through the mate bond, I could communicate clearly with his Wolf, Lupus. And above all, his magnanimous love for me.
I stared at him for a while before running my fingers through his neatly packed hair which I was obviously ruining. And then my eyes darted to the mark across his neck. My mark. One I had given him during our mating.
It wasn't a bite mark though rather it was the symbol of Moonsville and a half moon, tattooed on a small area. This was the mate's mark that usually appeared on every Pack member. The half moon plus the mate's Pack origin insignia. My fingers dropped from his curly hair to his neck and finally to the mark. Touching the mark alone caused this indescribable sweetness to course through me. The sweetest I've never felt all my life.
"It's beautiful." He said, his eyes gleaming with sincerity. His fingers went across my neck too, playing his index finger on his mark imprinted on me. I was definite it was the beautiful symbol of Greenville combined with a half moon. It made my body thirst in excitement to see it.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
I kept on romancing his neck whilst searching for the usual pain I wake up with, but they were gone. My full strength was back or better said, I was more powerful. Perhaps due to the mate bond, I now shared some of Kevin's strength.
"Strong enough to beat your ass." I chuckled and he smirked. "It's funny cos I feel like, I have access to a considerable amount of your strength."
"It's totally normal." He ascertained with a smile. "My mother used to tell me, once mates are bonded, they share each other's strength." I nodded like a child. "But seriously though, how's your body?"
I rose my back from the bed so that our faces were only inches away. I held unto his cheek, staring into those Hazel eyes that never ceases to captivate.
"I am totally fine, Kev."
He studied my eyes for a brief moment before claiming my lips for a short period. A part of me wished it had lasted longer but we both knew, passion and lust will once again. Leading us to another hot sex.
"I have to go now." He whispered while our foreheads hugged. Our eyes still holding each other and his warm breaths swarming all over.
"So, you're going to leave me?" I pouted.
"Just for a while, my little one. I'll be in my office."
My eyes shot up for a split second in amazement.
"Someone is trying to be responsible." I teased. He chuckled.
"What can I say, I'm the Alpha after all." He responded while I rolled my eyes. He alighted from the bed slowly. Even though he wanted to leave, his body said otherwise. So, did mine too. I didn't want him to leave, I badly craved for us to spend the whole day in this room. But in the end, he has his duties to fulfill.
"Come here." I ordered and he came close to me again, trying to decipher what I had in mind. I grabbed his shirt gently and then buttoned his last three buttons he left unchecked. He sported a quizzical look.
"Now this is better." I said. Tapping his steely chest while my head entertained naughty thoughts. "I can't have the female Deltas around be having the chance to gawk at your chest. It's mine alone for the view."
He smirked.
"Now look who's being overprotective."
I shrugged like a child before stealing a kiss on his tasty lips.
"You can go now." I whispered. He nodded before pacing towards the door.
"I'll see you soon." He ascertained before easing through the door. As the door clicked shut, I entertained myself with memories of last night. From our Dinner to the mystical land and to our sex. If anyone had told me life in Greenville was bound to be a blessing in disguise for me, I would have outrightly denied.
My mission here was to handle Greenville High for some months but the moon goddess had beautiful plans for me. As I sauntered into the bathroom, I went straight to the mirror. Gawking at Kevin's mark imprinted boldly on my neck. At the same time, I wondered how my Father was faring. It's been days since we last spoke, I'm sure he would be shocked to find out I hid all this from him. That I found my mate, he is an Alpha and above all, I've been marked. Perhaps it was time to pay him a visit alongside Kevin.
I could already imagine the surprise that would smash Kevin once he finds out, I'm the Lycan's daughter. I stepped back into the room after a bath full of my Father and Kevin's thoughts.
As I stared uninterestingly into the wardrobe, my mind travelled to Moonsville again. My Father is one who's disciplined and Kevin on the other hand, was one who would easily make a bad impression. I dearly hoped the two wouldn't be at loggerheads.
And on that note, I decided to wear one of Kevin's oversized brown shirt. Usually, it would have reeked of cigarettes and beers, but it was different. Only his scent remained and in a way, it allayed my fears.
I eased through the door barefooted, letting my feet enjoy the warmth of the floors as I toured to Aunt Flora's room. I knocked gently but when I got no reply, I clicked the door open.
"Good Morning, Luna." Rose greeted with her usual cheerful smile while Aunt Flora studied me. Both of them were seated by the bedside with a plate of breakfast separating them.
"I've told you countless times, Claire is better." I noted before inching towards Aunt Flora.
"Good Morning Aunt Flora." I said with a tiny smile.
"Good Morning darling." She answered in her accustomed silky soft voice. "I don't really know who you are." She added as I joined them. Putting her in the middle.
"I'm Claire, Kevin's mate." I uttered, she smiled. Her warm hand held onto my cheek dearly while her eyes met mine. As if she were trying to read me. Then her eyes darted to my neck where Kevin's mark was imprinted.
"It is an honor to have you as our Luna, Claire." She said, her sincerity blooming. "The moon goddess must love Kevin so much to have blessed him with you."
My eyes lowered to the sheets. There was something about this woman, something I couldn't quite depict.
"He visited me this morning and I can tell he was depressed. They say he's my nephew, but I can't remember anything."
"Anything at all?" I asked.
"Nothing. I don't even remember how I landed here." She remarked. I sighed and then gently took her hand in between mine.
"You'll be fine, Aunt Flora." I assured. "Perhaps you and I should go on a tour around Greenville. I'm sure it will help reliving those memories."
"Thank you my dear but Rose has already offered to go a tour with me. Besides, I don't want to hinder you from spending time with your mate."
She soothed.
"I agree with Aunt Flora." Rose chirped with a mischievous smile. "Someone's had a long night yesterday."
My eyes exclaimed and a blush inadvertently birthed on my face.
"So, you were spying on us?" I queried in a jovial tone.
"No!" She wriggled her head with laughter minting alongside. "But your screams were more than enough." She teased while I rolled my eyes.
"And I must really say, your mark is beautiful!"
She gestured.
"Thank you." I mumbled while my mind suddenly trailed to Jerry. Here she was, being cheerful and all but deep down, a part of her must be broken. Her mate rejected her and to worsen it all, he's spending half a millennial in prison.
"I'll try to speak with Kevin maybe he can let Jerry off the hook." I imagined myself saying that, but Aubrey held me back. Reminding me of the injustice I had gone through his hands.
"I'll leave now." I flashed them one final smile before easing through the door. I toured across the hallway till I reached Kevin's office. My pace halted wondering what my mate was up to. And without thoughts, I sauntered into his office. There he was with his Beta, Gabriel. Both of them chattering whilst engulfed in their work.
"Hey boys." I chirped as I sauntered to the chair opposite my Mate. A smile birthed on Kevin's face while a mischievous expression donned Gabriel's face.
He cleared his throat.
"I guess I have to leave you two love birds alone." He said as he arose, his eyes wavering between Kevin and me.
"I'll join you later." Kevin mumbled.
"Or not." I whispered enough for both of them to hear. Gabriel wriggled his head.
"You two should take your time, I can handle the work don't worry." He added before easing through the door. I heaved an inaudible sigh of relief as the door quietly shut.
Of course, I was disturbing my mate's work but we both knew we needed each other. Whether we liked it or not, our spirits craved each other like crazy since last night.
I ran my right index finger on his desk walking like a seductress towards Kevin, whose eyes were already beaming with love and lust.
"Is that my shirt?" He queried with laughter. I shrugged.
"Maybe." I softly quoted. "You're not the only one who loves wearing oversized shirts, you know." I teased as I stood inches away from him.
"Come here!" He chorused, pulling me gently but swift into his grasp. I relaxed on his thighs while his swivel rolled on a tiny curve.
I leaned my back against his steely chest that bloomed of warmth even with his shirt on. I let my hair flow across his face, so he reveled in its scent. His arms curled around my waist as he breathed softly across my mark. I felt an enticing tingling sensation spiral across my body and at this rate, if we didn't stop, lust could overcome us.
Not that I didn't want it though, but we were in his office and just anyone could walk in or hear us. So yeah, I wasn't ready to risk that chance at all.
"I just came to say hi." I whispered while his nose tickled a spot around my neck.
"Are you sure that's what you came here for or you miss me?" He replied.
"Maybe a little." I teased and he chuckled whilst running his fingers along my thighs.
"So, what are you doing?" I asked.
"Nothing much." A light sigh escaped his breaths as his eyes trailed to the files on his desk. "Gabriel and I were actually discussing enlarging our Pack Healthcare system and the research institute of magical herbs—" I hummed while my fingers ran through them and a smile inadvertently birthed on my lips.
"That is very thoughtful of you, Kev." I whispered in oblivion.
"And here I was thinking it was a crappy idea." He chuckled. I arched my eyebrow as I glanced at him.
"It's a lovely one." I ascertained while he nodded.
"You know, I'm still waiting for your beautiful touch in this office." He mumbled while my eyes reviewed the room in admiration. One I had found bland and promised to design.
"That could wait till tomorrow not today." I responded suddenly thinking about my Father and how I could break the truth to Kevin.
"So, what are we doing today?"
"Let's go for a walk, in our Wolf form." I held his gaze as I bit my lower lips softly. I gradually unbuttoned three of his buttons so I could get a sneak peek.
He grinned.
"I wanna meet Lupus."
"You'll have to do a lot more than this to see him." He teased, his eyes following my fingers as it slipped beneath his shirt.
"Kev." I whined while my finger brushed past his nipple. He arched his eyebrow upwards with a cocky smile.
"You're playing with fire, little one." He remarked.
"One of the many reasons I love you, Kev. You're Fire, the unquenchable flame of my life."
"And you're my Ice, Claire. The only one who stops this fire within me from spreading beyond control."
I leaned against his shoulder letting silence comfort us. He was right, his words made me wonder the status of Greenville if he hadn't met me. Although he still had his flaws, he was gradually changing for better.
"I wanna meet Aubrey too. If we don't let them see each other, it's like we're punishing them."
His gentle voice tousled my thoughts and we both arose.
"I have something to show you."
He pulled me towards one of his shelf and then he pulled out a small green case.
"Kev," I called when he kept stalling time. And then he finally opened it only for my eyes to reflect two gold rings. My eyes exclaimed and my lips parted in awe. Was he proposing to me?!
He inched towards me while I still remained in my statue like position.
"This are royal ancestral rings that have been passed down from the first generation of the Manchesters family."
I gulped down my saliva, Not sure how I was going to react if he proposed to me. Besides, we're mates. It wasn’t a compulsory tradition.
"It helps us transform back and forth in our wolf form without our clothes being ripped apart." He added and I heaved an inaudible sigh of relief. He carried my right hand in his, carefully wearing one of the rings to my left middle finger.
"I know for a split moment, you were thinking I wanna propose to you." He mumbled, his eyes admiring the ring in my finger.
"Yes!" I laughed and his eyes held mine.
"You are already mine Claire. I don't need any proposal thingy to certify that unless you want me to." He stated with all sincerity.
I held his cheek dearly before retrieving the other ring, wearing it to the same finger as mine.
"I don't want it either. You're mine from the moment I accepted you." I whispered and let few seconds pass by before placing a tender kiss on his lips.
"Shall we?" He proposed with a wide smile. I nodded with a slight chuckle before we sauntered outside. Across the hallway, down the stairs and finally outdoors. Into the beautiful morning where little birds toured the air, the sun blessing us with its rays and the wind greeting our bodies with solemnity.
With our palms intertwined and our eyes that told of endless joy, we didn't care if our guards or passersby were watching, we both morphed into our Wolf Form. Usually, I would have expected tattered clothes ripped off my body but this time it was different. The ring was truly magical as Kevin said.
Then I glanced at Lupus. My brown-haired Alpha was already a furry dazzling Black Wolf. Large and beautiful with his sparkling red eyes to complement it all.
In them, it mirrored my wolf. A furry spotless white Wolf with blue eyes. Lupus nudged me with his snout while we rubbed our bodies against each other. Basking in our warmth and sparks. Lupus was especially wild, dancing about and claiming dominion over me while Aubrey was the love drunk one, melting by her Alpha's love and affection.
And after several playful tours about Greenville, we finally rested in our favorite spot. The west boundary of Greenville, where the valley was. The greenest part of Greenville.
We leaned against a rock meters away the cliff. I leaned against Kevin's chest touring my fingers across his rock-hard chest. Kevin on the other hand was busy streamlining his fingers across my hair.
"Lupus is a wild one." He started.
"I agree!" I chuckled in response.
"He's the better version of me, stronger, smarter and of course reasonable." He pursed his lips. "That's why sometimes when I take rash decisions, he takes control of me." I smiled. "Remember, the second time we met?"
"Yeah at school." I mumbled, briefly reminiscing about our first ever argument.
"I didn't want to come but then, Lupus forced me." He chuckled.
"What!" I exclaimed, laughing too. "But look at us now. We're one." I bonded my palm with his.
"Aubrey is the reserved version. She likes to be treated like a queen."
"And it befits you. She's perfect. I like her fur, so pure and beautiful." He muttered before kissing my head.
"You know, I've once jumped between this cliff." He mumbled after long minutes of silence. I raised my head with a slight frown. This cliff was basically impossible for anyone to jump but my mate did!
"It was the night we first met, the night I killed Alpha Jason."
"My Goodness, you're crazy!" I pitched struck in a limbo to be amazed or horrified. "What if you had died?" My tone followed on a weaker note.
"Then I wouldn't have met you. Perhaps why the moon goddess helped me that night." He smiled sadly and I understood why.
I leaned back to his chest, playing with his fingers.
"I don't want you to be taking such rash decisions anymore, Kev." I whispered.
"I promise."
"I'm serious Kev. I don't want to lose you." I reinstated. "I don't." And he kissed my forehead softly again.
"Aren't you ever worried I killed Alpha Jason. My step uncle." He mumbled in a worriedly fashion. That was it, the reason for his sad smile.
"Nope." I chattered. Perhaps I wasn't worried because of the wars I have fought, the deaths I've seen as a commander while in Moonsville.
"It was a duel, and I knew you didn't want to kill him. No matter how much you hated him. But you didn't have any choice either. He would have killed you."
He heaved a sigh.
"That day, Alpha Jason killed more than half of my Pack Members. The Black Moon Pack. The only survivors were Gabriel, Rose, few others and I." He held unto my hand tighter.
"But my mother wouldn't understand. She's still angry about that night. I can't help but wonder how she could still love someone who treated his own family like trash."
I heaved a sigh.
"Because in the end, Alpha Jason was family." I muttered and once again silence reigned for minutes. "But you can't remain silent either. The more you do nothing, the more you're distancing yourself from her. I want you; I want us to pay her a visit."
"I'm not sure Claire." He lazily replied.
"Please Kev."
Silence dawned again.
"Fine. We'll go."
My eyes darted to the grass; this was definitely the right time to tell him about my family.
"Kev," I called in a whisper. He hummed. "We have to visit Moonsville too."
And instantly, I felt his body stiffen. It made me wonder why he was always so uncomfortable around the sudden mention of my Pack.
"You have to meet my family. I've already been marked and very soon, you'll want to crown me as your Luna." I pursed my lips, deliberating whether to tell him who I truly was.
"At least let our parents bless us first."
"You're right," He mumbled after several minutes.
"how about we leave tomorrow then?"
I gulped down my saliva, hoping my fears would allay alongside.
"What of your mother?"
"Mother has already accepted you, we would visit after we return." He assured but it didn't allay my fears. My true identity was a bother.
"I guess it's fine then." I feigned a smile. "Tomorrow we leave for Moonsville."
As those words toured out of my mouth, I knew I wouldn't be able to tell him.
Tomorrow was definitely going to a day of unending surprises for both my Father and Kevin.
