Chapter 178 Forgetting Again
Chapter 178 Forgetting Again
At first, Charles could feel an obvious floating sensation in his body, even sensing his body moving with the current's direction.
He gripped Abigail tightly beside him, afraid that one careless moment would separate them.
The current gradually accelerated. A low humming sound came from his ears. Light and shadow around him began flickering, like stars streaking across the night sky.
Charles felt his consciousness being gently pulled, as if passing through layer after layer of gauze. His body pushed forward uncontrollably, faster and faster, his heartbeat quickening accordingly.
His breathing slowly became heavy and rapid, like a fish out of water desperately struggling for more oxygen.
And the next second, all the uncomfortable sensations vanished instantly.
Charles's eyes flew open. Only upon seeing the flower-shaped lamp on the ceiling did he realize he'd returned—and this was Abigail's home.
Beside him, Abigail groaned with a furrowed brow.
Charles immediately got up, helping her lie down on the sofa.
When Abigail woke, the room was filled with the fragrance of floral tea.
She slowly sat up. The cloth that had been on her forehead fell with the force of her rising. Catching it with her hand, she instinctively looked toward the teapot.
A figure sat at the small table where the teapot was placed.
His back was turned, slightly long hair draped over his shoulders. His slender frame was nevertheless resilient—someone you'd never forget after one glance.
"Charles?"
Abigail questioned, her mind still somewhat foggy. She got up and slowly walked over, her heart inevitably filled with hope and anticipation.
Charles, who'd been reading a play script, heard the sound and turned his head. "Abby..."
He'd only just called her name when Abigail suddenly rushed over and embraced him. She cried, her voice shrill.
"Oh, thank goodness you're back! I thought I'd never see you again!"
Charles froze. Hadn't they just seen each other in the mental world? But he didn't think too much about it. First, he raised his hand to gently pat Abigail's back, softly comforting her. "There now, I'm still here, aren't I?"
Abigail nodded.
Charles gently pushed her away, pulling tissues to wipe her tears, his voice tender. "Hey, Abby, look at me."
Abigail, before him, looked up, eyes brimming with tears as she looked at Charles. Her gaze was devoted, the corners of her mouth turned down, about to cry again.
"Oh, I thought I'd never see you again. That time wasn't intentional, I was just so angry. I know you wouldn't do something like that."
Her words didn't mention anything about the mental world. She opened with that previous misunderstanding.
Charles frowned slightly, gently putting his arm around Abigail's shoulders, his palm patting lightly, tone gentle. "That's right, I wouldn't do that."
Halfway through his words, he looked down at Abigail, his finger hooking under her chin to meet her eyes.
"Hey, sweetheart, don't you remember what happened in the Main World?"
Teardrops still clung to Abigail's lashes. Hearing this now, she blinked, the tears sliding down. "What Main World?"
She truly didn't remember the Main World.
Charles's heart sank, yet he refused to give up, continuing to question. "What about Juno Frost? Logan Wolf? Xavier Black? Do you have any impression of these people?"
Abigail slowly shook her head. She widened her eyes, looking at Charles, smiling as she touched his face. "Hey, are you too tired? Did you mix up those novel characters with real people?"
"No, they're real." Charles shook his head. He stood up from the sofa, stepping back slightly, hands spread open. "Remember that naked woman?"
Abigail frowned. "Charles, I believe that was an accident. I don't want to—"
Before she could finish, the woman appeared out of thin air beside Charles. Only this time, she wore clothes.
"Oh!" She stood up immediately, eyes wide, pointing at Isis, then at Charles. "Is this magic? You..."
Charles shook his head, stepping forward to grab her arm. "No, this isn't magic. She's an anomaly from the mental world. You went there, too." He led Abigail toward Isis. "Here, touch her. She's real, right?"
Warm, smooth texture came from her fingertips. Abigail nodded lightly.
Immediately after, Charles released her and walked straight to the kitchen. When he came back out, he held a fruit knife.
"Oh my God!" Abigail was frightened by his action, immediately screaming. "What are you doing?"
She rushed over, trying to seize the knife from Charles's hand.
However, Charles moved faster. He didn't hesitate to cut a gash in his palm.
This action naturally made Abigail's screaming louder.
She hurried to find the first aid kit but was stopped by Charles. "Abby, hey, don't panic. Look here."
Hearing this, Abigail looked over, still shaken.
At Charles's summons, Isis walked toward him. Her palm opened, placed over Charles's injured hand. Light and shadow seemed to flash around them. In just a few seconds, Charles raised that injured hand.
"Look."
The palm that had been bleeding still bore bloodstains, but the terrible wound was gone—as if it had never been cut at all.
Abigail was shocked. She walked over, grabbed Charles's hand, and examined it repeatedly, her fingertips rubbing back and forth over that spot on his palm. "God, there's really nothing there."
She suddenly looked up at Isis. "You—who are you?"
"I am Charles's—"
Isis's head lifted, about to introduce herself immediately.
But Charles, fearing she'd say something full of misunderstandings like last time, quickly pushed her aside and pulled Abigail's hand to start explaining himself.
Just like the first time explaining to Abigail, Charles said almost everything he could say.
He even took out several other souvenirs, just to prove the authenticity of his words.
Though what Charles said seemed somewhat incredible, having witnessed Isis's miraculous ability firsthand and out of trust in Charles, Abigail still nodded.
"I believe you, Charles."
She held Charles's hand, tone gentle yet tinged with guilt.
"I'm so sorry. I actually forgot so much. Made you have to explain like this to me."
She pressed her lips together lightly, then held the hand Charles had cut earlier. "All right, if there's a next time, don't hurt yourself like this. You just need to say it, and I'll believe you."
Looking at Abigail like this, Charles's heart melted completely, filled with emotion.
He embraced Abigail, the force almost melding her into his arms. "Oh! My Abby!"
