Trust

Trust
Alex POV

“Stormy, what are you doing?” I yelled.

“Trust me! It’s them you have to stop,” Stormy said through the mindlink.

My pack might burn to the ground tonight and my pack members were at risk. I didn’t see a way out of this.

Kade and Tristan remained to keep the Ivan’s back up wolves from coming up here. With Tristan injured Kade was carrying the load of that battle.

Leiah shifted into her wolf form and knocked out a few wolves. I sniffled, but my sense of smell failed me. This is when the defect really hurts me. However, my hearing was still perfect I could hear nearly a hundred wolf paws drumming on the earth, heading this way.

I hoped my wolves were strong enough for this task.

“Shit,” I said.

Salazar raised his knife— which was the equivalent to a sword, and dropped it on the back of one of my wolves.

“No!”

Salazar moved like a trained warrior instead of a mad scientist. He turned his sights onto my ex-girlfriend. I moved to slow to save her.

“Goodbye Alpha female,” Salazar laughed. His knife went through Leiah’s wolf. The wolf whimpered and forced her to shift.

Everything happened in slow motion.

Stormy screamed. Blood poured out of Leiah. She dropped to the floor.

A vicious wolf snarl from above grabbed my attention, stopping me from shifting. I looked up to see a small opening I’d never noticed before.

Crap.

Gabbie’s wolf locked eyes on Salazar.

I stepped back as the wolf leaped from the ceiling and landed on Salazar.

I turned away, but I couldn’t tune out the sounds of a man being ripped apart.

I hurried to Leiah. She grabbed my arm. “I’m fine. I have no idea what you’re girlfriend’s doing.”

“Don’t worry about her right now. Can you take it out?”
The knife went right through her.

She shook her head. “I’ll bleed out fast.”

“Fuck this.”

I needed to get her out of here.

“Let me go,” Stormy cried.

“Alex,” Leiah whimpered. She faintly nodded at Stormy.

Ivan had his hands on my mate! My woman!

“You ruined all my plans!” Ivan roared. “You destroyed my life’s work.”

“Gabbie!” I shouted. “Take Leiah and get the hell out of here.”

She lifted her bloody nose before walking over to Leiah.

I raced to the next scene. The cave was no bigger than my living room, but tonight it became and arena of fire. The second I got to Ivan three wolves cornered me.

I heard Kade howl in distress. I shut my eyes for a moment. We all knew this day would come. The one person I never knew I’d meet and fall in love with had a knife aimed at her abdomen.

“Put the knife down,” I ordered calmly. “She has nothing to do with this.”

“Are you mad? It all started when we successfully created a Lunar wolf from birth! We restored what your ancestors destroyed. Now the curse is broken and there’s no way for me to get the power I wanted.”

“Exactly. It’s over. So let her go.”
I locked eyes with Stormy. “It’s going to be okay, Hurricane. I have you, okay?” I told her through the mindlink.

Gareth lay motionless by her feet, paralyzed by the Midnight King Curse. What the hell was she trying to do?

Ivan threw his head back and roared. The cave echoed with his frustration.

“It’s over! Let my mate go. Immediately,” I warned.

“You can have her back in hell.”

“No!”

Ivan plunged the knife into Stormy’s abdomen.

He threw her forward. I caught her and set her beside Gareth. Ivan would die first. I saw red and ran for him. I tackled him to the ground, digging my claws into his back.

The bastard cried out. “Stop!”

“You’re dying by my hand,” my wolf said, taking total control.

Suddenly, the ground beneath us trembled. I noticed a couple of rocks move in front of me. A tremble turned into a violent quake that threatened to rip the ground beneath us in two.

“Oh no, Alex,” Gabbie cried. “We have to get out of here.”

Ivan stared at me with wild eyes with a hint of hope that I’d let him go. I had two injured women on my hands. I regretfully let him go.

I growled, shoved him into the ground and got to my feet. I turned around to meet the eyes of a ghost.

“Shit.” I stepped back.

Gareth’s mischievous eyes stared back at me. The corners of his mouth curled like they used to almost yesterday.

“Hello old friend,” he said.

The remainder of Ivan’s wolves trembled like kittens at the sight of Gareth. They stormed out of the cave like bats.

He brushed past me. “I hope you don’t mind, but this one’s mine.”

Blood drained from Ivan’s face. He shook his head. “Gareth… things weren’t supposed to end like this.”

“Oh, I know.” He dragged his blond hair back.

What did I miss? What had we done wrong?

The ground beneath me continued to shake. The roof groaned and bits of sand fell on my shoulders.

“Hey!” Kade yelled as he ran into the cave. “We have to get out of here—Shit!”

Tristan staggered in behind him. “Oh, shit!” Tristan spat after he saw Gareth.

Gareth smirked. “Great, we have an audience.”

Gareth raised his hand and Ivan rose off the ground like a puppet.

“I’m going to finish you off the way you wanted to finish me,” Gareth said.

He closed his fist and Ivan flew out of the cave, leaving behind his screams of terror. Gareth marched out of the cave. No doubt going to finish off Ivan.

What the hell just happened?
“Alex!” Gabbie called.

She hovered over Stormy. Her eyes were closed, blood pooled out of her side.

“She’s not breathing,” Gabbie said.

“Wake up, Stormy,” I yelled.

My wolf cried out in pain. He clawed at me. I felt the urge to explode.

“You can’t do this to me, Stormy. Wake up, Hurricane.”

Her face was cold and I couldn’t find a pulse. The cave had gone silent.

I kept it coming. My first death.

I picked her off the ground. I’m not losing her.

“Where are you going?” Kade questioned.

“To a moon pool. I’m making a deal with the moon goddess.”
