Chapter 64

We exited the building, and just as I see the sky above, I feel a sharp pain in my chest. I look down and see blood pooling out of my chest. Hayden holds me as I sink into the earth below. He leaves me for a second and I feel so cold.

I feel his hand hold mine and I know this is it. I am dying. I hear his voice and it is slowly going away. Then all of the sudden it is just white. I look down and see I'm fine. I am just standing in a white abyss. “Hello” I call. Then I see Ayla she is just prancing around in the whiteness.

I reach her and I see a woman walking toward me. I know her. She is the Moon Goddess. “Ember I am so happy to see you. You have completed the task I gave you.”

“Yes, I did but where is Hayden isn't he supposed to be here too I mean I am dead right?”

“Hayden decided to take me up on my offer.”

“You mean the one to live forever.”

“Yes, that is the one.”

“But why? I don’t get it.”

“He didn’t want to see you die.”

“So am I dead or not dead I am confused.”

“You are dead, but I plan to send you back. Trust me Hayden is just as confused as you are at the moment. But I wanted to tell you thank you.”

“Oh, you're welcome.”

“Now I am going to send you back. You will not be coming back to this place.”

“What is this place is this what is after death?”

“Oh no. This is just your mind.”

“Oh, no go on. Focus on Hayden's voice it will bring you back and again thank you.”

I heard Hayden and then I was back. He was slumped over my body holding me. I reached up and touched his face.

“Oh, Ember your back.”

“Yes, I am back. What happened?”

“Your uncle.”

“What.”

“He shot you in the heart.” I touched my chest. It was all closed up. There was nothing there but dried blood. And a hole in my ripped-up shirt that I was wearing from the guard.

“Where is he now?”

“I killed him.”

“And my dad.”

“He was unconscious next to your uncle when I attacked. I don’t know what happened to him, but I left him there. He didn’t seem like a threat.”

“Oh,” I waited a moment then said.

“So, you accepted the gift.”

“Um yeah.”

“Can I ask why.”

“Well, I knew I was going to die to and if that happened the last thing, I would have seen was you dying. And not only that but Monroe would never be held responsible.”

“So, love and vengeance, is it?”

“Yes, I suppose it is.”

“Well, I think we should get to the vengeance part.”

“Agreed.” Hayden got up and offered me his hand. I took it and we began to walk toward where my uncle laid. My father was next to him out cold.

“What should we do with him?”

“I don’t know.”

“I think he probably tried to protect you from your uncle which is why he was knocked out.”

“Yeah, maybe.”

“Well, it's your call.”

“We should take him with us. At least until he wakes up.”

“Okay.” Hayden then picked him up and slung him over his shoulder.”

“Hayden Before we go don’t you think you should find some clothes. You cannot just walk around in the buff.”

“He looks down. “What I thought you liked the view.” I slapped his arm.

“I do but this is not the time.”

“Your right.” then he drops my dad on the ground and then hustles inside the complex. A few minutes later he comes out with pants on that are way too small. They don’t even close and are way too short. His leg muscles are pushing the pants to the sems.

I smiled he looked absolutely ridiculous. “Don't even start. I couldn’t find anyone with pants the size for me.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“Your face did. Any ways once we drop off your dad we will run as wolfs so it doesn’t matter.”

“You are right.” He picked up my father again and we began to walk.

We walked at a fast pace for about thirty minutes when my father woke up.

“What is going on. “

“I'm here dad.”

“Oh, thank God. I thought Dave might have.”

“Well, he didn’t.”

“I tried to stop him.”

“We guessed that might have been the case.”

“So, where are we going what is going on.”

“Well, now that your awake we will be leaving to go handle some business.”

“You can't leave.”

“The hell I cannot You are to follow the road till you either get a ride or hit a town. I will call you when I can.”

“How do you know you won't get hurt and not be able to call me.”

“Trust me on this I won't, and I will call.” Hayden spoke up.

“Do you have money because we don’t have any on us.”

“Yes, I have my wallet. “

“Good.”

“How will you know where you're going.”

“Dad, we have been following our own scents this whole time. We will follow it all the way home.”

“Oh,”

“Now we have to go.” Both Hayden and I walked away and shifted. I heard my dad say quietly

“I love you.” in truth I was still extremely mad, but it was still nice to know he loved me. I would sort out my feelings about him later right now I had a wolf to kill. Koa and Ayla took off running. They ran for two days straight. When we finally reached the pack. We found hidden stashes of clothes that lined the forest close to the packhouse.

“We need a plan.” I said to Hayden.

“Oh, have a plan; I am going to march right in there and kill Monroe.”

Before I could say anything, Hayden had ran to the front door of the packhouse.
