CHAPTER 31

"Lie down, Godfrey." He says, as I lie down on the couch. My back is terribly aching, it's a relief to be finally lying down. Keeping in mind that I thought I'd rather be lying in a coffin.

He opens up the small box as he picks up a few cotton balls and cleans my wounds, followed by applying some ointment. He goes a step ahead, and bandages them with a sterile cloth.

"Don't move!" He frowns, as I refrain myself from causing further movement. He goes to the kitchen, and comes back with a bowl of steaming chicken soup. He hands the bowl to me and I start drinking it.

"Why the vervain?" I question him.

"Okay, let's get this straight. Your bastard brother Ryder, asked me to take him to you, if not he would kill you one way or the other." He replies, seething with anger

"Where did you even meet him?" I look quizzically at him.

"His men kidnapped me, and then after they took me to the spot, Ryder came out and told me to take you to him. And, I was strictly instructed to not tell a word about this to you, or else... you'd die." His voice cracks, as he speaks the last few words.

That dick, Ryder. My god, what a lunatic!

"Why did you risk your own life? You did kill Ryder, but if the plan wouldn’t have been successful, you would've ended up dead!" I'm still shocked.

"I didn't care, honestly. If the plan would've been unsuccessful, you would've been dead too, and after that, I wouldn’t have cared about myself anyways." He comes closer to me and clasps my hand. Woah, what a speech!

"How did Ryder even know that you and I, have feelings for eachother?" I ask.

"Apparently, that guy Harper, who you fired for interrupting our... erm, office sex, was one of his men." He replies.

"You killing Ryder, that whole plan, was basically a suicide mission, you do know that, right?" I arch an eyebrow at him.

"I didn’t have a choice. I'd rather risk my life than yours. If something were to happen to you... because of me... I—" He nearly caves, with tears dripping from his eyes. God, don't cry.

"Don't cry, please." I coax him, my voice reassuring.

"I saw your face, when I stabbed you, and you said you still didn't hate me... that look, killed me a thousand times." He sobs, as I place his head on my lap, kissing the top of it.

He suddenly jerks and gets up. Woah! What is all this?

"You dick!" He beats me with a cushion on my head. What? Dick? He called me a dick? Tell me that I'm fucking dreaming!

"I don't—" I trail off.

"When were you gonna tell me that your fucking birthday is tomorrow?" He glares at me. Wait, tomorrow is 16th June?

"Who told you?" I smile at him.

"Your PA did. I asked her." He's still glaring at me.

"Fine, fine, I'm sorry. I should've told you that." I give in.

"I have something for you." He says, as he rummages out a small brown box, decorated with a ribbon on top of it. It's a gift? YAAAS! Wait, I'm not a child anymore.

"What is all this?" I ask him.

"It's a gift. Open it!" He giggles nervously at him. Why does he seem nervous about a gift? Unless there's a condom inside, or some sex toy, he shouldn’t be nervous.

I snatch the box away from him, as I carefully untie the shiny ribbon, to find a pair of silver cufflinks. They're gorgeous.

But, erm... why are they key shaped?

"Lucas, care to explain the key shape?" I look at him.

"The key to my heart and soul." He mumbles. Eh? Did I hear it right? I'm — well, maybe offically speechless?

I pull him into a deep lingering kiss, as he runs his hand through my hair. I can spend an eternity like this.

"I love you." I declare, my voice husky.

"And, I love you too." He says, smiling at me.

Well, I'm still hungry. I need to eat. Mrs. Reed is on a break, and honestly, I don't know how to cook. Probably, Lucas and I can cook today, and I can have him for dessert later on. I love the idea!
