Alpha Silas
Chapter 66
Kaya's pov.
“I'm leaving for the forest, there are so many things I need to get done today.” Feyi said to me, getting his bags ready to go.
“Don't worry, I'll be back before sunset, it's going to be a full moon today and we have to renew the moon water we got from Quincy.” He added but I didn't understand half of the things he said. My weary mind was all over the place, lost in thought of my misery and turmoil. Things have gotten progressively worse and it was taking a toll on me.
“Kaya.”
“Kaya!!” Feyi called out to me and I jolted back to reality, looking around and panting like I had just fallen from a skyscraper. He reached out to touch my shoulder, giving me gentle pats.
“Calm down Kaya, calm down.” He cooed, squatting to meet my gaze. His hand remained on my shoulder as he corked his head to the side. “Are you okay?” He questioned, although I'm pretty sure he knows the answer to that.
“I.. I think I am. I'm just overwhelmed, that's all.” I shrugged, rubbing my arms. He stared intently at me, as if trying to figure out if I was telling the truth or lying to him but I looked away, tears threatening to fall.
How can I not be lost in thoughts? I can't even begin to imagine what the future will hold for my son and I if Feyi leaves us one day. How long will he continue to be responsible for us? I'm quite sure it won't be long before he gets fed up or tired.
“Kaya, you need to stop worrying so much. I'm aware of the current situation of things but I'm quite sure that things will get better. Maybe not now, maybe not later, but one day, things will definitely be better.” He said, as if reading my mind and I bit my lip.
“I'm here to offer help in any way I can.” He added before rising to his feet. I stared up at him and then back at my feet. He called out my name once again and I looked at him. He gave me a warm smile, as it trying to reassure me and then carried his bags.
“I'll be on my way now, take care until I get back.” He said and turned around, leaving and I watched him till he was out of sight. He is indeed a man filled with courage, he is always here for Elior and I, no matter what comes.
If there was a way to ease his burden and help him in turn, I would do that. But right now, I don't even know when our next meal will be. I almost cried, but Feyi has told me that I need to be strong for my child, so I sniffed back my tears, in hope for a better tomorrow.
Just then, I heard Elior's cry, he was awake and I rushed to him. I picked him up and cuddled him but he didn't stop crying, he was hungry. Even his stomach was rumbling, it was heartbreaking.
“Please don't cry my baby, please.” I sniffed, rocking him in my arms as I struggled to hold back my tears.
“I'm doing everything I can to make sure I feed you well, please.” I continued speaking to him as if he could hear and understand me but the poor baby continued to wail from hunger. How can I even feed my poor baby when I haven't fed well myself? I am empty as it is and he'll get nothing but a disease if I feed him like this.
I went into the kitchen in search of crumbs but when I found nothing, I decided to roast some herbs and drink enough water, thinking that it would be any help but I ended up being unable to eat it afterwards and I had no strength left in me to hunt. I looked at my baby who was now hiccuping in tears and felt a sting in my heart.
“I'm sorry Elior.” I sniffed. I brought my child into this world to suffer, I have lost two parents so it hasn't been easy for me and now my child has to bear all this pain too. I lowered my head to kiss him, praying silently that the moon goddess helps him and keeps us safe from Lucian.
Just then, I heard a ruffle in the nearby bushes, the entrance to our hideout and I gasped silently, clutching my baby to my chest and ready to defend him with the last drop of my blood. I stared at the entrance, waiting for whoever was there to emerge.
“Kaya.” Feyi's voice came and I felt relieve.
I guess I didn't expect him to be back so early. He looked excited as he approached us with something wrapped up in the cloth in his hand.
“What is that?” I asked, still cuddling Elior.
“I found this..” He unwrapped the cloth, revealing a rabbit that he had killed in the woods. My heart swelled in gratitude, my eyes becoming filled with tears instantly.
“Thank you so much Feyi.” I whispered, staring at the sizeable meat.
“You don't have to thank me all the time. Go and prepare the meat and I'll take care of Elior in the meantime.” He dropped the rabbit and washed his hands before taking the baby from me while I started to prepare the meat.
In no time, I was done and we started to eat. Feyi did not take more than two bites before leaving everything for me to eat. I could feel the food fill me up well before I carried Elior to feed him.
“Did I tell you about the Alpha I used to work for before I came to work for Lucian?” He suddenly asked and I looked up at him with a flustered look.
“I think you've mentioned it.” I answered.
“Well, Alpha Silas is his name and he's a very great and well-known Alpha.” The glint in his eyes was evident of how proud he was of this Alpha Silas.
“Really? So what made you remember him?”
“He's in need of a worker, at least that's what I heard. I was thinking that you could take Elior there with you and he'll accommodate you while you work for him. He'll even pay you.” He explained and I chuckled.
I knew that it would come to this, the poor man is probably tired of taking care of my baby and I and I do not blame him at all.
“What’s so funny?” He asked.
“It's nothing Feyi. If you think that going to stay with Alpha Silas is the best thing to do, then so be it.” I let out a short smile.
“Perfect then. We'll leave tomorrow.”
I lowered my head after his words, a strange gloom hovering above me.
