Alpha Silas
Chapter 65
KAYA's POV
“I'll be on my way to the woods, I need to get so many things done today”. Feyi spoke, getting ready to get his bags. “I'll be back before the moon sets, it's going to be full moon
this evening and we have to renew the moon water Quincy gave us”.
I was so absent minded in everything he said as I looked into the thin air, my mind hovering around like a fly would over a spoilt food. I haven't had a good feeling over the turnout of things and it has been messing with my psyché.
“Kaya” Feyi called me as he looked at me, as a mother would look keenly to her child. “Kaya!!” He added more authority as I had sunk deeply into my thoughts.
I jolted out of my thought with a startled shake “relax, relax” Feyi said, with a pat on my back. “Are you sure you're okay?”
“Hmmm…I think I am… lost in my overwhelming thoughts, I guess”. I said, looking away, I don't even know what tomorrow holds for I and Elior peradventure Feyi goes away.
It's good to plan for the future, they said.
“Kaya, you'll be fine. It may not be now, it may not be later, but you certainly will be fine. Try not to get the pains of the events happening around to get to you, I'll be here for you if I can”.
I nodded and looked up at him and looked down at my feet.
“May the moon goodness come through for her children” Feyi let out a resounding howl.
“Amen” I said, painstakingly as I didn't even know what I would do with the prayers.
Feyi looked warmly at me, patted my back and headed to the woods. As he walked, I saw a man filled with valor and courage, no matter what it may, but he seemed to be there for I and Elior.
I was grateful.
Elior woke up from his sleep and began to cry so hard, I walked up to him and his stomach rumbled.
Hunger.
“Please don't cry Ellie, trust me your mother is doing all she can to eat so she can breastfeed you and it's not easy, please” I spoke to my baby, hoping he'd understand, but the wailing became more and more intense.
I went back to the makeshift kitchen we made, roasted some herbs and drink a lot of water, hoping that would help my situation before I go to breastfeed Elior but I couldn't even eat it and I no longer have the strength to hunt.
“Hm..” I looked at my baby as he whimpered in between his tears
“I'm sorry, I brought you into this world in pains, you really do not deserve this,I'm sorry the world is not going to be fair to us, already lost two parents so it's not easy for me too”
He looked keenly at me like he understood each and everything I was saying. I kissed his forehead and pray that the Moon Mother be merciful to I and the child and hide us from Lucia.
Just as I was about to crumble under the weight of it all, a rustling noise came from the entrance of our hideaway. Instinctively, I clutched Elior closer to me, ready to defend him with every last ounce of my strength.
"Kaya," a familiar voice called out softly. It was Feyi, returning sooner than expected. Relief flooded through me as I saw his strong, familiar figure step into the dim light of our makeshift shelter.
"I found something," he said, holding up a bundle wrapped in cloth. He unwrapped it to reveal a small, freshly killed rabbit. "It's not much, but it's food."
My heart swelled with gratitude. "Feyi, thank you," I whispered, tears of relief pooling in my eyes. I took the rabbit from him and began to prepare it as best I could with the limited tools we had.
As I worked, Feyi sat down beside me, watching Elior with a soft expression. "He's strong, just like his mother," he said quietly. "We'll get through this, Kaya. We have to."
I nodded, focusing on the task at hand. The scent of roasting meat soon filled the air, and Elior's cries began to subside as if he could sense that relief was on the way. Once the meat was cooked, I ate quickly, feeling the much-needed nourishment spread through my body.
"Try to rest," Feyi urged after we had eaten. "I'll keep watch."
Exhaustion tugged at me, but I hesitated. "What if something happens while I'm asleep?"
"Nothing will happen," he assured me. "I'll be here. Get some rest, for Elior's sake."His words finally convinced me.
I lay down beside Elior, cradling him in my arms. As I drifted off to sleep, I listened to the steady rhythm of Feyi's breathing and the quiet sounds of the forest outside.
For the first time in a long while, I felt a small glimmer of hope. The next morning, I woke to find Feyi still keeping watch, his eyes scanning the surroundings with the same alertness as always.
Elior slept soundly beside me, his tiny face peaceful
“Morning," Feyi greeted me, his voice a low rumble. "How did you sleep?""Better," I admitted, feeling the truth of the statement in my bones. "Thank you."He smiled, a rare sight that warmed my heart. "We'll take it one day at a time, Kaya. We'll find a way.”
“But Kaya, I have a suggestion, I think at this point you should go and live with Alpha Silas, news have it that he is in need of park help and you would have few coins to take care of yourself and Elior”.
I laughed heartily, while Feyi looked confused.
“Why do you laugh?” he asked, trying to figure out what could be wrong or not.
“I wasn't expecting that part, honestly” I bursted into another round of laughter and Feyi also chuckled a few laughs and he became serious.
