Chapter 105 Deal With The Devil {Rosie}
Chapter 105 Deal With The Devil {Rosie}
Berlo had John.
I faced the large oval mirror of the vanity and stared at my reflection while the stylist tried to make me look less of a miserable person.
My eyes were sunken, my cheeks hollow and my hair…. It looked like I shaved my head with a broken lawn mower.
“Don’t worry, madam.” The stylist, Marie, said to me, Her English was a bit more polished than the average Italian. “I can salvage this.” She looked determined with her blonde tinted eyebrows pushed together in concentration.
She trimmed it and styled it into finger waves. She said it would make me look like a model. That was after she realized the wigs weren’t cutting it. My face was too gaunt, too dull for wigs.
All through the session, I didn’t say a word. All I could think about was how badly John looked in that chair. He was beaten really badly. If I didn’t agree to work for Berlo, John would have died from internal bleeding.
I remembered I called Granny when I was ambushed at the airport, she probably sent him to make sure I was okay but now he was held captive by Berlo.
John was Granny's only relative. I’d rather die than be the reason she loses her grandson. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.
So I made a deal with the devil.
I still didn’t know what he wanted from me but I knew it had something to do with Kieran.
“It’s time to do your face, it might hurt a bit.” Marie said that because of the purple colored bruises and split lip.
I simply blinked at her through the mirror.
“I have some gin, it might help you take your mind off the pain.”
“I don’t drink.” I said curtly. “Just go ahead with it.”
It did sting when she started making up my face but I held it in and patiently waited for her to finish. The finished product was artificial.
I have never had to wear so much make up on my face before because Berlo refrained from leaving marks or bruises on my face.
But not this time.
The door to the room came open without warning and the devil sauntered in. He wasn’t wearing his shades this time.
I couldn’t stand him. The satisfied grin on his face, knowing he won irritated me to no end. My eyes landed on the pair of scissors on the vanity table and my fingers twitched.
I had half the mind to grab the scissor and aim for his throat but not only was I incapable of taking someone’s life, I wouldn’t succeed since papa didn’t see the need to teach me how to fight like he taught his sons.
“I knew Marie would transform you from a beast to a beauty.” He said, followed with a short laugh. “You’re wonderful Marie, a complete magician.”
Marie simply nodded. Her smile was forced and fake. She’s just as stuck in this as I was. We all were.
“I believe that’s enough caking. You’ve done enough. Leave,”
Marie sent me an apologetic smile as she quickly packed her equipment and scrambled out of the room like her ass was on fire.
It was just Berlo and me. I stared at the scissors, still contemplating the idea of murdering him.
He came forward, one hand in his pocket, the other rubbing his cheeks as he assessed me with those dark eyes.
“You must have learnt about the harsh realities of life the hard way, Rosie. I’ve never seen you this ugly and obese.” He clucked his tongue, his nose scrunched in disgust.
Tears burned my eyes. His words shouldn’t have an effect on me by now but they still hurt.
I wasn’t obese. Sure, my stomach wasn’t flat, it wasn't big either. Berlo was gifted to make even the goddess of beauty insecure.
He stopped at my back and held the top of my chair. I felt his body heat and the weight of his hold on the chair,
“Why the long face, Rosie? You’ll be seeing your papa very soon,”
I looked up and met his eyes. He was serious. No. I blinked rapidly, looking everywhere at once to stop the tears from falling.
“I thought you’d be happy to hear that.”he mocked. He knew exactly what would happen if papa should see me.
How would I face him? I was the errant daughter that caused his legitimate wife's death.
My fingers were digging into each other, piercing the delicate flesh underneath the nails.
“I agreed to help you, can you please leave papa out of this?” My voice was below a whisper. I already knew he wouldn’t listen but I just needed to try my luck.
He tilted his head to the side and pretended to be in a deep thought as if he was truly considering it.
“Do you really think your father wouldn’t know about your return to Italy?”
I swallowed nervously.
“Unlike you Rosie, my loyalty lies with your father so the first thing I did when I brought you back was to inform him of your return.” He smiled. It didn’t suit him.
“At first, he didn’t want to have anything to do with you.” He lifted his eyebrows and shrugged. “I couldn’t blame the man, considering the humiliation and pain you’ve brought him, it’s understandable but you see,”
I instantly flinched when he leaned closer, rubbing his cheek with mine. We were staring at each other in the mirror. I looked frightened while he looked like he was having the best time of his life.
“The moment I told him what you’ve managed to achieve, he became interested in you once more.”
I inhaled deeply. Of course he was. He was probably happy to be finally rid of me once and for all when he learnt about the fake car crash.
“Which is why, you will change into the beautiful satin flowy gown I got you for the evening and come downstairs with me, where your father will be waiting for us.”
“I-I don’t feel too good, Berlo.” I lied, my voice shaking.
Berlo waved me off as he stepped away from me and went to pick the dress on the bed.
“It’s hunger. I’m sure you will feel better after eating and talking to your father.”
I knew better than to argue.
All that matters now is John.
I repeated his name over and over in my head as I changed into the gown Berlo had set out for me. He watched me like a creep, dropping derogatory comments on my size and my overall appearance.
Before we stepped out of the room, he forcefully clasped my hand in his.
“Let’s go meet daddy dearest.”
My chest heaved. I wasn’t ready to met another person from my past but I had no choice.
“What about John?”
“He’s receiving treatment, thanks to you.” He patted the back of my hand softly, lifted it and placed a kiss on it. My body shuddered, goosebumps all over my skin.
“You do as I say, and I promise to ship him back home to his grandmother alive and well. You disobey me? John won’t be the only friend of yours that would suffer.”
