Chapter 148 Forest and foe
Friend or foe
Milo pov
even in the darkness, I could still feel him,
Feel our new mating bond pulse everyone he takes a hit.
He was still fighting. Still protecting me.
My alpha, my monster, my mate.
"Hello, little omega."
My body tensed up. I knew that voice. It's cold like winter. Sharp like broken glass.
My eyes snapped open, but I didn't wake up in the battlefield, everything around me was pure blinding white.
The i I saw was her, the owner of the voice.
She was in a white dress this time. Her smile was cruel and twisted.
She stood in front of me, but we weren't really anywhere. It was like being in a dream, but not a dream.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"Between sleeping and waking," she said. Her white dress seemed to glow in the darkness. "Between life and death."
“How did you…”
“Its a top secret of the council,” she grinned, casting me an evil glance. “You will get to know it when the time comes.”
"What do you want?"
She smiled. It wasn't a nice smile at all. "Nothing, yet, I just wanted to see you. For the second time."
"I don't believe you”
"Oh, you are right." She walked around me in a circle. "I want to make sure we are on the same page. Your blood is special. Your power is special. Even your mate is special."
"Leave Damon alone!"
She laughed. "I'm not here for him. That's the deal. Today is just to say hello."
"Why?"
"Because we will meet again, little omega. Very soon. When you are stronger. When you are ready."
"Ready for what?"
Her smile got bigger. "You'll see."
Then she started to fade away like smoke.
"Wait!" I called out. "What do you mean?"
"Until next time, Milo," her voice echoed in the darkness. "Try not to miss your sister before then."
I woke up, this time in the real world.
Everywhere was quiet, too quiet.
My head hurts. My eyes throbbed, and all my whole body hurts.
I tried to sit up. The world spun around me like I was on a merry-go-round. I paused for a while before going at it again.
"Damon?" I called out, but my voice was weak.
No answer.
I forced myself to stand. My legs shook like jelly. I had to hold onto a rock to keep myself from falling over.
That's when I saw it.
Blood!!
Rivers of blood flowed on the once dry ground.
Bodies of soldiers covered the ground. Some were missing arms. Some were missing heads. Some were... I couldn't even tell what they used to be.
My stomach turned. I bent over and threw up, but there was practically nothing in my stomach since I have not eaten for days now. but I kept trying to throw up anyway.
Who did this? What kind of monster could...
I gasped,
remembering Damon facing thousands of council soldiers.
"Damon!" I called louder. "Where are you?"
I stumbled forward, stepping over bodies. Trying not to look at them. Trying not to think about how they used to be people.
The ground was slippery with blood. I fell, got up, fell again.
"Please be okay," I whispered. "Please, please be okay."
I searched everywhere, tears falling down my cheeks. Behind rocks, under dead soldiers. In the shadows.
Then I saw something big and black in a pile of bodies.
My heart stopped.
"No."
I ran. Or tried to run. It was more like falling forward over and over.
It was him, The beast… Damon.
He wasn't moving.
"Damon!" I fell next to him. "Wake up! Please wake up!"
His red eyes were closed. His black fur was covered in blood. Some of it was red while the other was tinged with black.
That could mean one thing… his blood.
I put my hand on his giant head. He was still warm. But was he breathing? I couldn't tell.
"Help!" I screamed. "Someone help us!"
But no one came. We were alone with all the dead people.
"Please don't die," I begged, clutching my chest that felt like they were being ripped. "You can't leave me, not now."
I was so tired. So weak, the world was going fuzzy again.
"No," I told myself. "Stay awake. He needs you."
But I was already falling.
That's when I heard footsteps.
Someone… no group of people were coming.
"Help," I tried to say, but it came out as a whisper, my strength failed me, and I fell on top of Damon.
A shadow appeared above me. I couldn't see who it was. My tired eyes wouldn't focus.
Was it the Queen? Was I dreaming again? I couldn't tell anymore.
"Shh," a voice said. It felt soft, kind… Maybe it's another of her ploys. "Don't worry, little one."
A hand touched my head. It felt warm, safe.
And suddenly, I was so sleepy. Like someone had wrapped me in the softest blanket.
"Sleep now," the voice said. "Everything will be okay."
I fought against it, I wanted to stay awake. But I couldn't.
"Damon," I whispered as my eyes closed.
"He will be fine," the voice promised. "You both will be."
Then I was falling into darkness again.
But this time, it felt different. Peaceful. Like floating in warm water.
The last thing I remembered was that warm hand on my head.
And wondering who was helping us.
Friend or enemy?
I guess I would find out when I woke up.
If I woke up…
