Chapter 147 The beast
The beast
Milo pov
“I am so sorry”
“ What?” the words tumbled out of my mouth,
“For what I will become”
I was confused at what he was saying, we were surrounded with nowhere to run to, and what damn continued to say was that he was sorry. It was not his fault, it was nobody's fault
If anything, everything is my fault, the death, the suffering…
Damon closed his eyes.
“No noo, was he giving up.” I questions in my head,
Then everything went crazy.
His body started to change. I heard bones breaking. It sounded like tree branches snapping in half.
"Damon!" I tried to reach for him, but I was too weak.
Black fur grew all over his body. His hands turned into long claws. His face elongated and changed into something else.
He grew bigger. And bigger. And bigger.
When he opened his eyes again, they were bright red. Like fire. Like blood.
He wasn't Damon anymore. He was a…
“Monster!!” The warriors gasped,
Damon was the biggest wolf I had ever seen. Taller than three men standing on each other's shoulders.
The soldiers stepped back, giving us a wild distance. Even the strongest among them, those at the back of a carriage that looked like their commanders had a look of terror.
I should have been scared too. This beast could kill me with one swipe of his giant paw… no, I suspected that even just from it breath alone could flatter me to the ground.
But I wasn't scared.
Even when he turned towards me, I saw something… Those big red eyes looked at me.
It was still Damon in there, My Damon.
"Damon?" I whispered. "Are you there?"
The monster made a soft sound, it was not a growl.
It was more like a whine.
Like he is trying to talk to me, but he couldn't.
"Kill the beast!" someone shouted, breaking the soft moment.
Then the soldiers attacked.
They ran at us with their swords and spears.
The monster that was Damon gave one growl in response, and then he moved so fast I could barely see him, clashing with the incoming soldiers.
It was like hell let loose on Earth. He put himself between me and the soldiers.
Nobody got close to me.
His claws cut through armor like it was paper. His teeth were bigger than knives. When he roared, the ground shook with a force that made even my weak bones tremble.
Blood flowed everywhere. But none of it was from Damon. Groans of pains and yelling of the soldiers filled the whole forest.
Damon was protecting me.
Even as a monster, he was protecting me.
More soldiers came, so many of them taking in place of their fallen brethren. They kept attacking and attacking.
Damon fought them all. He didn't let even one get near me.
well no one had the chance to.
Only his one swipe fell over 30 men at the same time.
I wanted to help. I tried to stand up.
But my head felt so heavy. Like someone had filled it with rocks. Dark spots danced at the edge of my vision.
"No," I said to myself. "Stay awake. Damon needs you."
But my body wouldn't listen. I had lost too much blood. Given too much to the bad people who hurt me.
My eyes started to close.
"No, no, no," I fought against it. "Have to... help..."
Damon felt my struggles, I saw Damon look back at me. Even with his monster face, I could see he was worried from his eyes.
He made a sound. A sad, bone chilling sound.
"I'm okay," I lied. "Keep fighting."
But I wasn't okay. The Black spots had covered half of my vision.
More soldiers came closer, exploiting Damon's distraction. They had arrows now. Shooting at Damon from far away.
Some arrows hit him. He roared in pain but kept fighting.
For me. He was doing all this for me.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I'm too weak to help you."
My body started to fall sideways. I couldn't stop it.
The last thing I saw was Damon rushing toward me. Even with soldiers attacking him, he was trying to catch me.
Then everything went black.
