Chapter 142 How
How?
Damon's POV
Black Stone Mountain loomed in the darkness like a slumbering beast.
My lungs burned, I bent over wheezing and panting hard like a dog,
I had been running for hours. My body ached all around me. The burns from the chains still hurt. But I didn't stop.
Not now.
Milo was there. I could feel him inside as I got closer to the mountain, getting weaker as time went by.
The black stone mountain was once a mining ground, before it was abandoned for years…
The perfect place to hide someone away from the world.
Or to set a trap.
I didn't care. Trap or not, I was going in.
The entrance was exactly like I had seen it through the bond. Hidden behind rocks and dead trees.
No guards were guarding the entrance. That was the first sign this was a trap.
I gritted my teeths, and went in.
The tunnel stretched ahead, going down into darkness.
My eyss adjusted to the darkness immediately. I snuffed the air, I could smell them,
Wolves,
Lots of them, hidden in the darkness, but I had already sniffed them out.
I continued to sniff the air, walking over wet mud, as I went deeper into the tunnel, I perceived it.
Milo's scent,
It was barely there, covered by the humid air and of all the wolves hidden in the shadows, but it was there.
I couldn't mistake it for anything.
But something was wrong… I could smell Blood and fear and something else, I couldn't explain,
They were hurting him.
My wolf roared inside me so loud, I clutched my head with my two hands.
The curse pushed against Daphne's spell. I could feel it cracking.
It wanted to be let out.
“Not yet,” I told myself, breaking into a run. “Hold on just a little longer.”
The first surprise attack came quickly. Three wolves jumped from the shadows.
But it was hardly a surprise, I have seen them long before they saw me.
I didn't even slow down my pace. My long sword cut through them like paper.
Afterwards more came, Five, Ten, Twenty.
But it was nothing serious, my fingers kept twitching followed by the sound of blade rearing through flesh. grunts of pain filled the tunnel. They were dead before they even touched the ground.
I kept running, and at the same time, kept plowing through their numbers. No matter how many jumped in my way, It hardly stopped my movement, as I zoomed past them like a storm.
I purposely left many behind because I couldn't bother dealing with them.
They were hardly an obstacle.
The air got colder as I went deeper inside the tunnel. At this point they have stopped attacking.
I was covered in blood, none were mine, not even a scratch had touched me.
But none of those mattered to me, All that mattered was getting to Milo.
Hold on, I thought. Please hold on.
I followed the bond deeper into the mountain. Through twisting tunnels and empty rooms.
Finally, I reached a white door. The choking scent of medicine clung heavy in the air.
I could hear machines beeping. And underneath that, a heartbeat. Weak. Too weak.
I kicked the iron door with all my strength. It left a heavy dent, but it didn't break.
I kicked again, And again.
On the fourth kick, the door flew out of its hinges, carrying chunks of rocks and debris along with it.
My eyes quickly scanned the room when the dust settled. The room beyond was white and bright. Medical equipment was lined up in every corner of the room.
Just like I had seen,
And in the center, strapped to a table, was Milo. He was so still, with tubes connected to his arms, that drained into a bag.
But he was not alone, trembling men dressed in white surrounded him, needles in hand.
“Milo!”
I saw red.
“You hurt Milo… you die.”
“W…who are…”
The first one didn't have the chance to complete his statement before his head was separated from his body. Crimson red spraying everywhere.
“I am the person that sent you to hell.”
Shocked gasps came from the other men in whites. They back away, their trembling in sheer terror.
“Where are they?”
“Please, don't kill us, we were just asked to collect his blood.”
My wolf howled.
“Wrong answer,” I brandished my claws, watching the sharp edge glint in their terro filled eyes.
“When you get to hell, greet the devil for me.”
I lunged, finishing the three remaining men in a matter of seconds. My whole body and the floor was covered with their blood and dismembered limps, but the beast inside me was hardly satisfied.
It yearned for more blood…
“Milo!”
I turned on panic, at the boy that was lying on the stone platform. The only sign of life being his chest that barely rose and fell.
I started toward him, but stopped, sniffing the air.
They were here, The traitors.
"Welcome, Alpha."
I spun around.
Cornelius stepped out of the shadows. Then Garth. Then Elijah.
"Right on time," Elijah said.
"Let him go," I growled.
"Not happening," Cornelius said. "He's too valuable. Do you know what his blood contains?"
"I don't care."
"You should." Garth moved closer. "The Moonfire Gene. Infinite power. The Queen wants it."
"The Queen can burn in hell."
They laughed.
"Such loyalty," Elijah said. "To a mere omega."
"He's not just an omega," I said. "He's my mate."
The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop it.
"Your mate?" Cornelius laughed harder. "A True Alpha mated to a male omega? How pathetic."
"The only pathetic ones here are you," I growled, barely holding back my wolf that was clamouring for their head. "Traitors, and Cowards."
"We are survivors," Garth corrected. "The Righteous Pack has won, Damon. The war is over."
"What war?"
"The one you didn't even know you were fighting," Elijah said. "While you were playing with your pet omega, we were taking over. Pack by pack. Territory by territory."
"The unrighteous packs are finished," Cornelius added. "Only a few holdouts remain. And they will fall soon."
"The Queen rules everything now," Garth said, his eyes filled with a fanatic look that made me want to gag. "She will unite the whole world together."
"And she's offering you a choice," Elijah said "Join us. Bend the knee, Or die."
I looked at them. Really looked at them for the first time since they entered the room. These were men who had sworn loyalty to me. Who had fought wars beside me…
"You want my answer?" I asked.
They all leaned forward, waiting.
I smiled. "Here it is."
I moved faster than what their eyes could comprehend. My sword went through Cornelius's chest before anyone could blink.
"That's for killing a shadow member," I said,
Cornelius looked down at the sword that was impaled in his chest. His face was filled with shock, like he couldn't believe that it would be so brutal and decisive.
Blood poured out from his mouth, staining the sword hilt.
"How?" he managed to gasp
"You forgot something, everyone of you forgot one important thing," I grinned evilly, twisting the blade further in.
"I am still a True Alpha!!"
