Chapter 124 First shift
Chapter 124: First Shift
Milo’s POV
The crowd froze.
Selene!!
Damon’s sister was the Silent Dancer all this time!!
Every strength left my body all at once. The world felt like it had tilted on its axis. I could hear the crowd shocked screams in the background, but all of it faded,
“No… no, that’s not…” I whispered, shaking my head desperately. Maybe I had not seen well for a second…
But the truth stood right there in front of me, glaring back with a mix of fury and pain.
My throat tightened, “You…?”
The word could barely come out.
She smiled.
But it wasn’t the kind of smile that reached my eyes. It was cold, sharp, and cruel.
“Yes, me, little Omega, surprised?”
Her voice rang through the arena, soft but filled with venom. She circled me slowly, her bare face glowing under the moonlight like carved ice.
At that moment, I really felt like. I was a prey and she… the predator.
“You shouldn’t have seen me, that's the worst mistake you have ever made in your life.” she said quietly, flashing me a dangerous smile, before she disappeared from my vision.
I felt the air vibrate beside me, at the last minute I deflected to the right, countering her attack that had come from thin air.
Every whisper died the moment we clashed, but I was not paying attention to anything. All my attention was focused on Selene who was becoming berserk, in her attacks now.
It was awfully obvious that she was winning and I was losing, it was just a matter of time.
Clang!!
The sound of my sword clattering on the ground echoed around me followed by shocked gasps coming from where the other shadows like shadowflame and the rest were seated. My knee crashed to the ground, trying to catch my breath, as my chest heaved hard to take enough air to my burning lungs.
“You really thought you belonged here?” she mocked, her sword spinning in her hands lazily.
“The first Omega to ever wear a shadow crest. How laughable.”
The crowd started murmuring again, this time, clamourings for my head, demanding blood.
I felt even more disgusted by them.
She tilted her head. “Tell me, did Damon promise you something? Power? Love?”
Her smile widened. “He always had a taste for broken things.”
Something in my chest cracked at her words.
“Stop,” I warned, my hands curling into fist. Something was rising inside my body. My wolf stirred restlessly inside me, a low growl echoing through my head.
But she didn’t stop.
“He took you in like a stray dog. Pity, that’s all it was. You really think he would ever choose you over his pack?
Her laughter cut through the air, twisting a part of my soul I didn't know existed until now.
The heat inside me grew.
My heart was racing so fast it hurt. The sand under my feet trembled slightly.
“Milo…” Lior’s voice was faint, nervous even. “Don’t listen, she is trying to provoke you…”
I tried to move, tried to raise my head, but my arms wouldn't respond. Everything hurts. Everything burned.
The heat from before was back, stronger now, almost unbearable. It felt like something was trying to claw its way out from inside my chest.
"Let me out," the dark voice whispered again, seductive and poisonous. "Let me kill her. Let me show them all what you really are."
"No," I gasped, fighting against it, but I knew it was a losing fight, the same way I had lost to her in the pit.
“Look at you,” Selene went on, circling me like a predator. “Trembling. Scared. Just like the day they dragged you through the pack gates.”
She leaned closer, whispering near my ear.
“I heard you begged for your life back then, begged to stop the whipping, Did he stop?”
I sucked in a deep breath, trying to control the torrent of emotions that wanted to consume me.
Selene’s sword slashed across my chest like a physical sword. Deeper than what even a sword could do.
But, she didn’t stop… I know she intentionally did this. She could have just finished the fight, but noo, she wanted me angry.
And she was getting it.
My grip slipped. For a heartbeat, I saw red.
Every ugly thing I had swallowed, every humiliation and insults I had received, every fear I tried to hide… her words ripped it open.
“She’s lying,” Lior warned. “Don’t let her in…”
“SAY YES," the evil voice roared. "SAY YES AND I WILL SAVE YOU!"
The edges of my vision darkened. Not from lack of air or anything, but from something else. Something darker that was rising up inside me like a tidal wave I couldn't control.
My mouth opened.
And for a terrible moment, I felt the word forming on my lips.
“Its poison, Milo, we have been poisoned” Lior's voice broke through,
But it was too late,
Selene grabbed me by the throat, hauling me up to stare into her golden eyes that were inches away from mine, for the first time, I saw something beneath the rage.
Pain.
Deep, soul-crushing pain.
“You are not a warrior, you will forever remain a pet” she hissed, her words going home. “You are a mistake that should have never lived.”
That word…him, hit deeper than her blade ever could.
Something inside me snapped.
The heat exploded through my body, this time instead of suppressing it, I allowed it.
My heart roared, at the same time a loud roar left my lips.
“Milo…NO!” Lior roared inside me.
And suddenly… Everything broke.
My bones snapped with a sickening sound.
My veins burned with molten silver.
I screamed in pain as my spine arched in a weird angle, my bones felt like they were being pulverized and moulded back into place, The crowd gasped, followed by another scream, but I could hardly hear anything besides unimaginable pain that filled my body.
I was undergoing my first ever shift.
The agony was unbearable… like a thousand fires burning me from the inside out.
My skin tore, claws burst through instead of nails. My vision dimmed before it focused on the one person I wanted gone.
The Silent Dancer took a conscious step back, for the first time, she had a wild look of fear in her eyes.
Like she could believe her eyes.
“W-what are you…?” she whispered, eyes widening slightly.
My fingers dug into the sand. My breath coming out ragged
“I…told…you…” I rasped, words that were hardly mine escaped my throats. “…to stop.”
“Let the world see and behold our might”
I lunged.
She barely dodged, didn't have the chance to even if she wanted.
Her frail body flew through the air like bullets, before crashing against the weapon cart at the far edge of the arena.
The sand exploded beneath my claws as I tore through the air, not giving her a breathing space.
She swung again, but this time it felt like I was watching an old woman swing her fist. I barely felt a thing, as my claws connected with soft tissues and cells that sent her flying across the arena again, this time crashing on the opposite sturdy foundations of the building.
Blood splattered across the ground.
Her lips bled, her cloak ripped into shred from my claws.
I could hear the sound of my name from a distance, but then, I was yet to finish the job.
I picked her up like a raging doll. The infamous Silent Dancer hung half dead, just from two exchanges of blows.
“KILL HER!” The voice rumbled inside me,
And this time, I didn't protest.
the air split with a sound that didn’t belong to any beast I know.
A loud roar tore through my throat.
My vision went red. And I lunged again, this time to finish it.
“MILO!”
