Chapter 125 The fire wolf
Damon's POV
The Fire Wolf
The arena was a distance away from where I hid alone in the forest, but I could still hear everything as if I was near.
The crowd's cheering. The clash of swords , The announcement made by the M.C.
Everyone thought that I was in a special conference like I had always told them at this time of the year. That was a lie, all have been a lie. I was actually hiding my darkest self from all of them. And that was how I saw myself watching from far away with my special wolf eyes that could see things even when they were really far.
Through the trees, I could see the arena all lit up with torches, And I could see Milo, being called upon on the stage
My heart trembled.
This was the time. I said to myself, but when I was not ready for another shocker of my life, his opponent was my sister, the infamous silent Dancer.
I felt like vomiting blood out of anger. The urge to run up there and demand a heavy explanation from general Elijah and the coordinators of the death match kept on growing stronger, but I had to calm myself down, so as not to aggravate the curse that was still coursing through my system.
My chest hurts everytime he receives a blow. watching him fight felt like my skin was being pricked with a knife. He kept getting knocked down, over and over. Blood and sweat covered his clothes. He looked so small and tired.
The Silent Dancer… my sister was going all out for him. She moved like water, smooth and fast, and Milo couldn't keep up.
I gnashed my teeth so hard I heard it crack,
I already knew who she was even under that mask.
Selene, the only talented shadow that has ever won a golden badge.
Only James knew the truth… that the mysterious Silent Dancer was really my sister who ran away after carving her name in everyone's heart five years ago. We had kept it secret because... well, it's unrelated and it gives a sense of purpose to the upcoming shadows, something to look upto…
Well that was then, now, i was so angry to even think of the punishment I would give to whoever had set this match up.
Maybe public wet whipping should be the least of the punishments.
watching Milo get hurt, felt like someone was squeezing my heart with their fist.
"I should be there," I whispered to myself, my hands curling into fists. My claws, which were in place of my finger nails, dug into my palms. "I should be there."
“Go to our mate. Save him. GO!” Dax continued to go crazy inside my head, growling and snarling.
I tensed at the mention of mate, but then before I could think about it,
Something shocking happened in the arena.
Milo's hand suddenly swung out incredibly fat, catching a line of guard, connecting squarely on her face… Her silver mask went flying through the air, spinning around and around before it landed in the sand.
Everyone could see her face now. Her golden eyes. Her silver hair, and the way her mouth carved in surprise.
The crowd went absolutely bananas. People were standing up, pointing, yelling. It sounded like a beehive that someone had kicked.
I raised an eyebrow, shock plastering my face.
I thought maybe the fight would stop now. Maybe Selene would be nice and end it since knowing my sister, she would be satisfied that milo qualified to wield a diamond badge.
But no.
Selene got “angrier”. Her face looked like a thunderstorm. She started attacking Milo even harder and faster than before. I could see her mouth moving but I could pick out her words, but I know it wasn't anything good.
Why were they still fighting? Why was no one stopping the fight already?
"No," I growled. My feet are already moving on their own. "No, no, no…"
I paused, that was when I noticed it.
Something felt... wrong.
I had overlooked it, but not now. I could feel Milo's energy…his aura. All wolves have an aura, like an invisible cloud around them that other wolves can sense. Milo's aura was usually small and quiet, like a gentle candle flame.
But now?
Now it felt like a forest fire.
It was jumping around. Going haywire wire, getting bigger and smaller at the same time without any rhythmic pattern. It felt like Milo was not just fighting with Selen…
He was fighting with something inside of him.
"What's happening to him?" I whispered.
Then Milo started shaking. His whole body trembled like he was freezing cold.
My heart skipped several beats. Something was really, really wrong.
I started running.
My feet pounded against the forest ground… Branches slapped at my face. My bare feet marched sharp ends of twigs, but I hardly felt it. I ran as fast as I could, jumping over rocks and logs like a ninja, my already agitated wolf giving me extra speed.
I had to get to Milo. I had to help him. Nothing else mattered but to get to him before it became late. Fuck the rules and fuck them all, I was stopping the death match for sure.
I was very close to the arena when I heard it,
A scream.
Not just any scream… the worst sound I have ever heard in my whole life. The kind you could only hear in hellfire. The familiar sound of a shift happening entered my ears.It sounded like someone was tearing Milo apart, breaking him into a million pieces.
The sound made my skin crawl, suddenly feeling sick.
I ran even faster, so fast the trees became blurry lines that zipped past me.
"Hold on, Milo," I panted as I ran. "Hold on, I'm coming!"
Finally, I burst out of the forest. The arena was right in front of me now, all lit up and full of scared people.
I was about to jump over the wall and run to Milo when I saw something that made me stop so fast I almost fell over.
Milo had finished his shifting, and where Milo had been standing, there was now a wolf.
But not just any wolf.
A huge red fiery wolf stood majestically in the ring. It was one of the biggest wolves, probably bigger than some alphas I had seen before. Its beautiful red fur glowed and sparkled like actual flames, reminding everyone of little lights dancing all around it like fireflies. It looked like someone had taken fire from a campfire and shaped it into a wolf.
It was the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen…
But that wasn't the main thing responsible for the shock that was running through my body.
It was the aura that hung around it and was still climbing. It was now on par with a full fledged alpha, but it never stopped, and wasn't showing signs of stopping soon.
My mouth fell open. My brain stopped working. I just stood there, staring, like a dummy.
"Is this..." I could barely get the words out. "Is this an Ashbourne wolf?"
Ashbourne wolves were from really old stories. I remember the story of them being a one time wonder of nature that defies logic.
While growing up, I thought the stories were a little exaggerated but seeing what was in front of me,
It didn't sound like fairy tales anymore.
A real Ashbourne wolf was right in front of me.
And it was Milo
The fire wolf opened its eyes. The prettiest, scariest purple I had ever seen opened to the world.
But when those eyes looked at Selene, I suddenly felt scared.
I am the Alpha! I'm not supposed to be scared of anything!
"I told you to stop," Milo's voice said.
Except it didn't sound like Milo anymore. It sounded deeper, darker, scarier. It sounded like a monster's voice mixed with the sound of fire crackling.
The voice made all the hair on my arms stand up straight.
Then without warning, Milo moved,
No. He teleported
Faster than lightning! Faster than anything I had ever seen!
One second he was on one side of the ring. Then…
Boom!
Selene was flying through the air like a whipped doll, crashing into the cart of weapons. Nobody saw him move, one second he had crossed the ring.
The whole arena plunged into a deep silence, only the sound if selene groaning could be heard.
Selene tried to stand up. Blood dripped from her mouth onto the sand. But before she could even get to her feet, Milo was already moving.
He hit her again…and she flew the other way, smashing into the stone wall. The wall cracked. Actual cracks appeared in the sturdy stones!
My heart felt like it stopped.
All of that…both hits…happened in maybe three seconds. That's as long as it takes to say "one, two, three."
In three seconds, Selene went from being the scary, unbeatable fighter to being a broken and bleeding mess on the ground.
And Milo...
Milo wasn't done.
He walked toward her slowly and gracefully, flaming dots trailing behind him. like a cat walking toward a mouse it caught.
He slowly picked Selene’s lifeless body up with one huge paw, lifting her off the ground like she weighed nothing. She just hung there, limp like a rag doll, barely breathing.
And when I looked into Milo's unnatural purple eyes that glowed like two suns, I saw something that made my skin crawl.
He was going to kill her.
Milo was going to kill my sister.
He raised his paws, the claws to land the finishing blow,
Without thinking twice I burst into the arena.
"MILO!"
