Chapter 50 Chapter 50

Sofia did not tell Lydia where they were going. And even after they had left the cemetery, even after they went to have something to eat. She simply guided her quietly towards the car, and for Lydia there was no there is no question.
She simply had come to understand that she was comfortable with the way Sophia was, and she will not need to hear words.
Lydia climbed into the passenger seat without asking anything. That's the point. She was too emotionally exhausted to care where they ended up, but the food they had, now that was wonderful, she was food and grateful for that.
However, the heaviness inside of Lydia, that very much remained a little longer. And now it had settled to be inside of her mind, body, soul, and now in her chest, like something permanent now.
But strangely, sitting beside Sophia made it easier to breathe around it.
The drive through the city was calm. The soft music played quietly through the speaker, while the sunlight pulled through the windshield in the warm streak catching against Sophia's sunglasses, that were resting carefully on the dashboard.
Outside the city a flowing normally.
There were people crossing the streets. Cafe crowded with conversation, cars cars rushing past one after another, and for the first time in that day, Lydia found herself simply watching it, instead of feeling disconnected from it.
Sophia was driving, with one head resting loosely on the steering wheel and occasionally she would glance towards Lydia, without being too obvious about that.
"You are thinking too much again." She said and Lydia glanced at her. Her tone came across very casual.
However, Lydia was looking out the window.
"I don't think I'm thinking about anything." She said, whispering softly.
"It's significantly more concerning." Sophia said with the frown on her face.
"Or may be you are jjust too full from the food we had. We should do something else." She said, stuned Lydia and she looked at her with her eyes wide open.
"Are you not tired yet?"
"Nope..." I have a plan now." She muttered, and Lydia sat there, not knowing if she was up for this. But a some breath of laughter escaped Lydia before she could catch herself. However, Sophia noticed it anyways.
"Good.... you didn't say no to me. I wouldn't have listened to you anyways." She talked to Lydia, understanding that Lydia didn't want to be alone either. That alone was progress.
For the rest of the drive, conversation came through. Sophia was pointing out ridiculous advertisements on the Billboard. People walking, and in a dramatic she was talking about the traffic as well. And then she made one particularly passionate speech about "how many people would dislike pastries and chocolate cookies". And how they can never be trusted.
Lydia, on the other hand, was sitting there with a small smile on her face and it kept growing and growing by the second.
She was like a small child, who's getting angry on the most random things in the world.
At one point Sophia was going on and one. And she was emotionally listening to all of that. But slowly she was coming to relaxing herself.
Although, none of this enough to forget everything that was waiting for her outside this moment, but Lydia knew that this was enough that the silence inside her mind would finally started to loosen itself, a little bit.
About 20 minutes later, the cars slows down in front of a very elegant boutique. That was in between a luxury store Fort. Glasses and marble everywhere. The building itself looked understated in the way that only extremely expensive places ever did.
The large window displayed carefully arranged clothing under soft golden lights. Uniformed staff standing near the entrance with a practice smiles.
Lydia sat there, blinking slowly when Sophia stopped the car and parked it right in front of store. Lydia now could see a lot of women with children, mothers, husbands, boyfriend, girlfriends most of the people coming there.
And some even getting out of luxury cars. It was definitely not a place she would usually go to, or at least in her previous life, she could not.
"Sophia..." She called out, wanting to leave at once.
"No... Nope..." Sophia said, shaking her head, interrupting her immediately, while reaching for her bag.
"Please don't start this again. Just like you did at the restaurant.
I am not stopping, and we are doing this." She said, taking off her seat belt. But Lydia was a little taken aback. She was staring at her through the windshield for a second.
"This place looks terrifyingly expensive." She said, she's actually uncomfortable and Sophia only smirked.
"Yes, and for a Mafia Queen, this place is absolutely nothing." She said getting out of the car, fixing her dress and then looking at Lydia, who did not move from there.
"And I hope you know this, but I really think you do not." She said pausing.
"Know what?" Lydia asked.
"You own this building and even this land Lydia. And every single building that you're looking around, with luxurious clothing, shoes and alligator bags... All of this belongs to you, the day you got married to Arthur. You are a Romero, all this is yours." She said. Surprising her.
Although, the word "surprising" is a little bit of a small word. Lydia was so shocked that it felt like her body was waking up, and she wasn't even asleep. She looked around the place. It was acres and acres of land.
"And all of these people who are getting out of luxurious cars. Yeahhh.. you're bigger than them, powerful than them. " Sophia reminded her of the things she actually didn't have an idea about.
Although, it was not like she has forgotten about that. Lydia simply just never knew.
"And none of this concerns you? Or terrifies you?" Lydia asked Sophia.
"Not even the slightest.
"I am the most powerful man's friend and I'm one of the most powerful women soon to be best friend. I am too powerful in this place." She said, feeling extremely proud of it. The glow on her face was showing it.
Somehow her statements and delicious food made Lydia laugh out loud. Although, all of this was a little too new for her, but she was trying.
Nevertheless, she shook her head softly, unable to stop Sophia from doing whatever she wanted to do. And it was not like she could stop her at all, not even in the beginning.
And so she came right out of the car, fixing and her mother's dress and confidently walked towards Sophia.
Sophia held on to Lydia's hand and they walk to the store.
The moment they entered the building, the atmosphere shifted immediately. And the staff there.
"Miss Sophia." One of the women greeted warmly and then she looked at Lydia, and her eyes went forward, bright, but then she looked down, not out of respect, but mostly out of fear.
"Mrs. Romero. It's such an honor for us that you came to our boutique. Please do come in." She said.
The shock had finally left Lydia.
And Sophia waved her hand carelessly.
"We are just here to shop... just look around, if you don't mind." The woman smiled wildly before gesturing both of them to go further inside.
"Of course, please." She said and Sophia slowly, instinctively looked around. However, Lydia saw the staff rushing out of there.
But this place was very soft on the inside. Very elegant, perfectly curated, velvet sitting, warm lights, while mirroring in cold reflection. Endless row of beautiful fabric carefully displayed. Accessories.
The entire place smells faintly of expensive perfume and extremely fresh flowers.
It was almost like Arthur's house.
"This place is ridiculously beautiful." She said pulling out a dress, which had no price tag on it. A frown cam on to her, and this confused Lydia.
"How do you ever know what to buy?" She asked, Sophia.
"You don't... you just buy it if you want it, and don't worry it's not going to be that expensive. It will be like ..." She pausing to think about it.
"Like 10,000 K or something... or maybe 5." She said, like it was nothing. Needless to say Lydia was stunned, but on the others said she was ready to do this.
"Okay thanks for that..." She muttered, putting the dress down.
"Okay then, I have a plan. It's time for a little makeover. Even though you do not need one, but I just want to dress you up." She said, surprising Lydia and she just realized, this day had just started for her.
