Chapter 217 Book 2 CHPT 49: Our Answered Prayers

Chapter 217 Book 2 CHPT 49: Our Answered Prayers
~Alina’s POV~

The first thing I became aware of was the sound.

A soft, steady beeping, slow and consistent, like something gently pulling me back to life.

Then came the smell of clean sheets, antiseptic and something else… something warm, something new.

A scent so soft and unfamiliar, yet it wrapped around me like comfort itself.

My lashes fluttered as I slowly opened my eyes, the light above me slightly too bright at first.

My body felt heavy, sore in places I didn’t even want to think about yet, but there was a strange calm sitting beneath the pain, like everything inside me had finally settled after a long storm.

For a moment, I didn’t move.

I just lay there, breathing it in, trying to understand where I was, what had happened.

Then it all came rushing back.

The pain, the memories, the moment everything changed.

My hand twitched slightly against the sheets, and that was when I realized… I wasn’t alone.

Something warm was wrapped around my fingers.

I turned my head slowly to the side, my movements weak but careful, and that was when I saw him.

Valentino.

He sat beside me, his head slightly bowed, his attention completely stolen by the tiny bundle in his arms.

Our baby.

My breath caught in my throat.

He held the baby so gently, like he was afraid even the slightest movement would break it.

His large hands, hands that had known violence and power, now cradled something so small, so fragile, with a softness I had never seen before.

He was smiling.

Not the usual confident smile I knew.

This one was bright, joyful, and almost disbelieving.

He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to the baby’s forehead, then another, his thumb brushing lightly over the tiny cheek.

And something inside me broke.

Tears filled my eyes instantly, spilling over before I could stop them.

My chest tightened, my lips trembling as the weight of the moment settled deep inside me.

This was it.

This was the moment I had dreamed of, prayed for, cried for.

I didn’t even realize I was sobbing until the sound left my throat.

It caught his attention immediately.

His head snapped up, his eyes finding mine, and everything in his expression changed.

“Hey… hey…” he said quickly, standing and moving closer to me.

“Baby, why are you crying?”

He leaned down carefully, pressing a kiss to my forehead, then my cheek, his voice gentle but laced with concern.

“You should be happy,” he murmured softly. “Today is a joyous day… our bundle of joy is finally here.”

“I know…” I cried, my voice breaking as I tried to speak through the tears.

“I know…”

My chest rose and fell unevenly as I looked between him and the baby, my vision blurred by tears.

“Do you know how long I’ve waited for this?” I whispered, my voice shaking.

“Four years, Val… I’ve waited four years for this moment…”

His face softened completely.

“Yes, baby,” he said quietly, his own voice thick with emotion.

“Finally… Our prayers have been answered.”

That word settled deep in my chest, heavy and beautiful all at once.

He reached for my hand again, holding it tightly as his thumb brushed over my skin in slow, comforting strokes.

For a moment, we just stayed like that.

Both of us overwhelmed, trying to take it all in.

I forced myself to move, wincing slightly as I pushed myself up, my body protesting immediately.

Every muscle ached, reminding me of what I had just gone through, but none of it mattered anymore.

“Careful,” Valentino said quickly, shifting closer.

“Don’t rush, amore.”

“I’m fine,” I whispered, even though I wasn’t completely.

But I needed this. I needed to see my beautiful baby.

Slowly, with his help, I sat up properly, my eyes immediately falling to the tiny baby in his arms.

My breath hitched.

The baby was so small.

So perfect.

Tiny fingers curled slightly, soft skin, peaceful face… a quiet little life that somehow carried both of us within.

“It’s a boy,” Valentino said softly, his voice filled with pride.

“A boy…”

My lips parted as I stared at him, my heart swelling so full it almost hurt.

“Our son…”

Valentino carefully lowered him into my arms, his movements slow and protective, like he didn’t trust the world with him yet.

The moment he touched me, something deep and instinctive shifted within me.

I held him close, my fingers trembling slightly as I adjusted him against my chest, my eyes scanning every little detail of his face like I was trying to memorize him in a single breath.

“He’s perfect…” I whispered.

Valentino sat beside me, his hand resting gently on my back, his presence steady and warm.

“He is,” he agreed quietly.

There was a small pause before he spoke again, his tone softer now.

“What name do you want us to give him?”

I let out a soft breath, my eyes still on our baby.

“A name…” I repeated quietly.

His name should be something meaningful.

Something that carried everything we had been through.

I looked up at Valentino, my heart full.

“You choose,” I said gently. “Any name you give our child… I will love it.”

He smiled at that, a real smile this time, one that reached his eyes.

“How about Matteo?” he said softly. “Matteo Alessandro Romano.”

The name settled over me in a way I couldn’t explain, like it had always belonged to him.

Matteo… a gift from God.

Alessandro… a defender.

It carried weight, meaning, history, and somehow it felt like it carried us too.

Everything we had lost, everything we had survived, everything we had found again in this moment.

My vision blurred with tears, but this time I was smiling through them.

“It’s perfect,” I whispered, my voice full of joy. “Our little Matteo…”

Valentino leaned closer, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple before his fingers brushed softly over our son’s cheek.

“Yes baby, our little Matteo is here,” he murmured.

I looked at both of them, really looked, and something inside me settled in a way it never had before.

My chest felt full, almost too full, like my heart had finally found where it belonged.

For the first time in a long time, there was no fear sitting in the back of my mind and no pain waiting to resurface.

There was only this moment.

Only love, joy, and happiness.
