Chapter 51
I carefully handed the pair of swans to Athena, asking her to keep them safe for me.
This was really important to me.
Seeing how careful I was being, Kane couldn't help but laugh.
With a hint of jealousy in his voice, he said to me, "How come you weren't this careful when you received the necklace earlier? Seems like you don't like my gift."
I quickly shook my head and told him, "I love your gift too, but this is different for Nina, because neither of us has much money. I know very well that this pair of swans must have cost Nina all her savings."
Nina took my hand and looked seriously into my eyes.
"I believe when I get married, you'll definitely give me the gift I want most too, so you don't need to feel guilty or get too emotional about this. After all, as you said, we're best friends."
Hearing Nina's sincere words, my eyes couldn't help but well up again.
She patted my shoulder and said with a laugh in her voice, trying to comfort me, "Okay, stop crying. You're supposed to be the most beautiful bride today. If your eyes get all puffy from crying, it'll be hard for the makeup artist to do your makeup."
I quickly wiped away my tears and sat down at the table.
"Today will be tiring, so you need to eat more." Kane piled most of the food in front of me.
Looking at the mountain of food on my plate, I said to Kane somewhat helplessly, "I think I'll need to wear shapewear with my wedding dress, and this will make me unable to fit into it."
Kane didn't quite agree with what I said.
He kept putting more food on my plate, even cutting a piece of sausage and putting it in my mouth.
Watching me chew and swallow it, he nodded with satisfaction.
While eating his own food elegantly, he said to me, "No matter what you're doing, your health is most important. You need to eat well - your body is already weak."
Hearing Kane's concern, my face couldn't help but turn red again.
Nina watched us both with a smile.
Clearly, she now felt that Kane and I were a perfect match, made for each other.
After breakfast, the wedding car was already waiting at the door.
I looked at Nina somewhat hesitantly.
Finally, I spoke up firmly to Kane, "I want to bring Nina along. Is that okay?"
Kane turned around, looking puzzled, "Why wouldn't it be?"
I had thought Kane would refuse.
Unexpectedly, Kane had planned to bring Nina along from the start.
Nina cheered, and was about to leave with us, but then her steps paused.
She looked down at herself somewhat awkwardly, then said to me, "Never mind, Sonya. Today is your wedding, and I can't embarrass you. Look at my clothes - they're not suitable for that kind of occasion at all."
But I felt that no matter what Nina wore, she should be at my wedding.
I looked at Kane pleadingly.
Kane, as if he had anticipated this, turned to Nina and said, "I've already had someone prepare a dress for you. Just come with us."
Nina hadn't expected Kane to be so thoughtful and considerate.
Or rather, she hadn't expected Kane to even notice her.
She cheered and rushed over to hug me.
With joy in her voice, she said to me, "That's wonderful, Sonya! I can attend your wedding and witness your happiness."
Nina's excitement infected me, and I cheered along with her.
She and I walked hand in hand to the wedding car.
Kane followed and sat down beside me.
Seeing everyone dressed in formal attire with happy smiles on their faces, I couldn't help but feel better, too.
Soon, the car arrived at Moretti Castle.
Looking at the seriousness emanating from that centuries-old building, I couldn't help but feel nervous.
Suddenly, a strong arm wrapped around my shoulder. I looked up - it was Kane.
He was also staring at the castle, but his eyes were complex, and I couldn't quite read the emotions in them.
Suddenly, Kane looked down at me. With a hint of amusement in his voice, he said to me, "Don't worry. Even though you won't live here, you're still the lady of this place."
I looked at Kane and nodded with a smile.
As soon as Kane stood at the entrance, a group of servants rushed out.
About fifty servants in total stood in a row, waiting at attention for Kane to enter.
A red carpet extended from the castle's main entrance all the way inside. Kane took my hand, and we walked onto it, with Nina carefully following behind me.
As we walked in, I heard Kane's voice in my ear, "Some people might deliberately try to embarrass you, but don't worry about it. I'll handle it."
I swallowed nervously.
Suddenly, I remembered what Kane had promised me earlier - that we could go pray before the priest.
I looked up at Kane again, my voice somewhat gentle as I asked, "We agreed earlier to go pray before the priest. Did you forget about that?"
Kane shook his head and said, "Of course I didn't forget, it's just the timing doesn't work out. We'll go after the wedding ceremony. And actually, I had the priest come here."
My eyes widened in surprise.
I hadn't expected Kane to actually bring the priest here.
My expression became even more delighted. This was my wedding, but because I didn't have many friends or family, there weren't many people I knew attending.
Nina and the priest were among the very few people I knew and could trust.
Kane's thoughtfulness and care for me were truly beyond my expectations.
I walked into the castle. Inside it was empty - there weren't the black-suited mafia members I had imagined, but only a smiling Merlin.
Merlin waved at me, came over to give me a hug, and greeted me with a kiss on the cheek.
Then she stroked my hair and said to me, "Trust me, I'll definitely make you the most beautiful bride today."
I nodded seriously.
Of course, I believed Merlin could make me the most beautiful bride - her skills were exceptional.
At this point, I had to say goodbye to Kane.
Because he needed another makeup artist to help with his styling.
I took Nina's hand and left with Merlin.
As Merlin walked ahead, she said to Nina and me, "You both have dresses, and I know Miss Nina is your bridesmaid."
I turned my head to look at Nina.
We exchanged a glance.
Seeing our expressions, Merlin laughed, "Looks like he's still the same - deciding everything himself, never telling anyone."
But I didn't think there was anything wrong with that.
I'd always had a weak personality in the past and needed someone strong to decide everything for me.
I just needed to follow his plan.
