Chapter 52
I followed Merlin to a room.
The room was huge and empty, and the lighting inside was very dim.
When I walked in, I couldn't even see clearly what was inside.
Merlin's hand touched the wall beside us, and suddenly a spotlight appeared in the room, shining on the center.
I looked at the illuminated gown, and a hint of shock showed in my eyes.
The dress was beautiful.
It was completely different from the style I had imagined. I thought Kane would like those very ornate and extravagant wedding dresses.
But this one wasn't like that at all. Its cut was very simple - a strapless design with a cinched waist paired with a very long train. The fabric was as smooth and delicate as pearls, with a soft satin sheen.
And there were no extra decorations on the wedding dress, only the Moretti Family crest.
Around the waist was a thin silver cord with a brilliant ruby attached, adding a touch of luxurious texture to this satin wedding dress.
Merlin smiled and said to me, "This is the wedding dress I carefully designed over several days to find the style that suits you best. The fabric was also carefully selected. Go try it on."
I nodded and walked up to the wedding dress, unable to resist reaching out to touch it.
The delicate fabric made a rustling sound under my slightly rough fingers.
I quickly pulled my hand back, afraid that the calluses on my hands might snag this perfect gown.
Seeing me, Merlin handed over a pair of silk gloves and smiled gently, "These gloves are also part of the wedding outfit."
I looked at Merlin gratefully.
She was really so thoughtful.
I followed two other servants to the dressing room and changed. The corset made my breathing feel a bit tight.
But when I came out and saw myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but freeze.
I never imagined that such a simple cut wedding dress could make someone look so noble.
Right now, I looked like a princess wrapped in pearls.
I could hardly believe the person in the mirror was me.
Last night's emergency skincare had also improved the texture of my skin and hair.
If this person weren't me, I wouldn't believe that less than a month ago, I was a nun who couldn't even afford basic meals.
I turned to look at Merlin.
To my surprise, Nina had already changed into her bridesmaid dress.
A mermaid-style dress with subtle sparkles made Nina shine like a black pearl.
Her skin tone was wheat-colored.
She used to look at light-colored clothes with envy.
But when I asked her to try them on, she would say her skin was too dark, and they wouldn't look good on her.
But now it seemed that wearing bright colors actually made her look more elegant.
Nina walked up to me, and only then did I notice her eyes were already red.
"Dear Sonya, you're so beautiful. I'm so happy I can witness your wedding day with my own eyes."
Nina's voice was choked with emotion, making my nose tingle too, and I lowered my head.
Seeing this, Merlin came over.
She took both our hands, her voice carrying a comforting power.
"Today you're both very important people at the wedding, so don't cry. You should be happy. If you cry and ruin your makeup, it'll be hard to apply it later, understand?"
Hearing Merlin say this, Nina and I looked at each other and smiled, both putting away our tearful expressions.
I followed Merlin to sit at the vanity.
The makeup team was extremely professional - I heard they were brought in from Hollywood.
I watched as my face became almost luminous under their careful work.
It looked so good I could barely recognize myself.
I don't know how much time passed, but after the makeup artist sprayed setting spray on my face, she clapped her hands and said with a smile, "All done, Mrs. Can you take a look and see if you're satisfied?"
I lifted my eyes and stared at myself in the mirror, as if looking at a stranger.
Is this really me?
Is this really me, Sonya?
I never imagined that I, who once begged and struggled to survive in the slums, could possess such beauty.
Although I had realized several times before that maybe I wasn't so ugly after all.
But it wasn't until today that I discovered I could even be called beautiful.
Nina, beside me, let out a soft gasp.
This was her first time seeing herself after being transformed by a makeup artist. Her eyes showed the same amazement I had when I first saw myself with makeup.
Nina was also a standard beauty.
Her wheat-colored skin added an exotic charm and a healthy beauty to her appearance.
She turned to look at me.
We looked at each other, our eyes moistening slightly again.
Next was the hair.
Because my wedding dress was very simple, my hair couldn't be complicated either.
Merlin personally did an updo for me and placed the veil on my head.
Looking at the person in the mirror with a graceful figure, delicate features, covered by a thin veil, I thought of the Greek goddess statues I had once seen online.
"Oh my god, Sonya, you're so beautiful! I hope there are professional enough photographers at the venue today to capture this beautiful moment of yours."
Nina stood beside me, spinning around like a lively little sprite.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
A solemn voice came from outside, "Excuse me, are you ready? It's almost time for the ceremony."
My heart suddenly started to feel a bit nervous.
After all, I was about to face members of the entire mafia family, not just Kane.
If I made any mistakes here, would I embarrass Kane?
Seeing my nervous look, Merlin smiled and said to me, "Don't worry, your husband is the head of the entire mafia. No one dares to disrespect you."
With that, she gently pushed me, indicating I should go out.
I took a deep breath and straightened my chest.
I'm not who I used to be anymore. I really should be more confident.
If people saw the mafia boss's wife acting so timid, it would be Kane who would be laughed at.
The moment I opened the door, I saw an elderly man with a serious yet kind expression.
He looked at me and showed a gentle smile, "Miss Sonya, we need to go to the venue now."
I nodded, trying to make my expression look calm and composed.
The old man extended his hand, indicating I could take his arm.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
After all, these four-inch heels were indeed tiring to walk in.
With the old man's support, I came to the door leading from the castle to the outdoor lawn.
The old man seemed to sense my nervousness. He spoke again, "This is your wedding, dear. You don't need to be nervous."
His voice seemed magical, smoothing away all the anxiety in my heart.
I showed a bright smile and nodded at him with a smile, "Thank you."
Now I was going to meet my new life.
The old man pushed open the door with a creak, as if opening the door to restart my destiny.
