Chapter 104
I guess Luca thought that even though I married Kane, I'd still be the same old Sonya he could push around.
He looked at me without any of the fear he showed Kane. Instead, his eyes were full of contempt.
"You think I don't know what kind of person you are? Don't think that just because you married Mr. Moretti, nobody knows about your past."
Luca's shameless words made me shake with anger.
Just then, something was pressed into my hand.
A flash of surprise crossed my eyes. I looked down—it was a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire, already rusted.
One hit with this thing would tear flesh right open.
Kane's hand rested on my shoulder, his eyes showing encouragement. "Go ahead, sweetheart. Do whatever you want."
Luca's face changed completely. He looked at Kane, trembling. "Mr. Moretti, you have to believe me! I'm telling the truth. You've been fooled by this little bitch!"
The moment Luca finished speaking, a fist landed squarely on his face.
This time, his mouth split open with a huge gash, exposing the bloody flesh inside.
Kane shook his fist, clearly wearing brass knuckles.
Luca obviously couldn't take Kane's punch. His eyes rolled back as he was about to pass out.
The person behind him immediately pulled out a stun baton and jabbed it into his waist.
Luca convulsed and woke up again.
He started screaming in agony, but only after a delay.
But compared to the sounds he made when beating my mother, I didn't think it was nearly bad enough.
I gripped the baseball bat tightly and swung it down on Luca's arm.
Luca let out an even more terrible sound.
I swung the bat again and again. Blood splattered on my face, warm and reeking.
I wiped my face in disgust and kept swinging.
Luca went from screaming to cursing, then finally to begging me, but I didn't stop for a second.
If I stopped now, it would be a betrayal of my mother and myself.
Finally, covered in blood and unable to swing anymore, I stopped, gasping for breath.
By then, Luca was a bloody mess, spitting blood.
Beast-like wails came from his throat.
I looked at him, feeling nothing inside.
I blinked, and tears streamed down my face.
I roughly wiped away the tears and looked up at the sky.
I wondered if Mom could see this from heaven.
Mom, I got revenge for both you and me.
Seeing me stop, Kane pulled me aside.
He gently rubbed my hands, which were already raw.
I looked at my torn palms and smiled.
I looked up at Kane and said, "This is how he used to beat my mom. She cried and begged him to stop, too, but he never did."
Kane stood beside me silently, just treating the wounds on my palms.
He gently dabbed iodine on my hands, and surprisingly, I didn't feel any pain.
After treating my wounds, Kane stood up. He took a short knife from someone nearby and said to me, "Leave the rest to me."
I looked at Kane and nodded hard.
I sat not far away, watching carefully to see how Kane would deal with Luca.
Luca seemed to have lost the will to live. When Kane appeared in front of him, he didn't move.
Until Kane cleanly chopped off one of his fingers—then Luca's screams echoed across the port again.
This time, he screamed more terribly than ever before.
Kane casually cut off his fingers one by one and stuffed them in his mouth, saying, "This is what gamblers get."
Then Kane stabbed him in the stomach.
But Kane avoided his vital organs.
Luca lay there like a dissected fish, convulsing all over, only able to watch helplessly as blood slowly flowed out.
I just watched Luca like that.
Until he closed his eyes unwillingly and died, only then did I feel relieved, and I couldn't help but hug my knees and cry.
I didn't even know why I was crying. Maybe because I finally got revenge for my mother and myself.
I never cried when Luca beat me before, because the more I cried, the worse he beat me. So it had been a long time since I'd had a good cry like this.
When I finally stopped crying and looked up, I found that Kane's people had already disposed of Luca's body.
Even the spot where Luca had been was clean, without a trace, as if he'd never existed in this world.
Kane crouched down to meet my eyes. He placed his hand on my shoulder, gentle yet full of strength. "Sonya, from now on, no one will ever bully you again."
I believed Kane's words completely.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, resting my chin on his shoulder, my voice a bit tired. "Mr. Moretti, I want to go home."
Kane smiled. He picked me up and said, "So now you think of it as our home?"
I nodded hard. "That's my home. Mine and yours."
My words made Kane very happy. His steps became much lighter and more cheerful.
Back home, Kane ran me a hot bath. The warm water washed away all of Luca's blood.
I looked at the girl in the mirror whose eyes no longer held any darkness, and smiled happily.
Kane took the hairdryer and dried my hair. He looked down at me, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. "Happy now?"
I nodded hard at Kane.
"As long as you're happy."
After my emotions settled, I suddenly remembered something. I looked up at Kane, a bit troubled.
Kane met my eyes and nodded gently.
I bit my lip and said worriedly, "Now that Luca's dead, no one knows where my mother's ashes are."
Kane looked at me with a complicated expression and pointed at himself. "Do you remember who I am?"
I nodded. "Mr. Moretti."
Kane said helplessly, "I mean, my position."
I didn't understand why Kane was suddenly asking me this, but I answered obediently, "You're the head of the mafia?"
Kane patted my head, his voice full of affection. "I'm the head of the mafia. You think I can't handle something this small?"
My eyes suddenly lit up.
Right! Mr. Moretti was the head of the mafia. No matter how well Luca hid things, there would always be traces for Mr. Moretti to track down.
I looked at Kane, my eyes full of hope. "Will you help me find my mother's ashes?"
Kane pulled me into his arms and planted a deep kiss on my forehead. "Of course. If she's your mother, then she's my mother too."
The corners of my mouth lifted slightly. I reached out and hugged Kane's waist tightly.
