Chapter 105
Kane moved quickly. In less than an hour, Bandel's call came through.
He said to Kane on the other end of the phone, "We've found Sonya's mother's ashes. Luca had hidden them behind the casino."
When I heard this, a self-mocking smile appeared on my face.
What my mother hated most in her life was casinos, yet I never expected Luca would actually put her ashes in a casino.
No wonder I couldn't find them, no matter how hard I looked before.
I could never have imagined Luca would put my mother's ashes in a place like that.
I clenched my fists, my voice filled with hatred, "What my mother despised most in her life was casinos, and he actually put my mother's ashes in such a filthy place."
Hearing the hatred in my voice, Kane gently stroked my hair, "I can make that casino disappear."
I looked up at him, my eyes showing both surprise and delight, "Really?"
Kane pinched my nose, his tone somewhat displeased, "Is making a casino disappear really that difficult, given my position? Why do you always forget what I do?"
I scratched my head a bit sheepishly, but still said to Kane sincerely, "Because Mr. Moretti, when you're with me, you never act like those real mafia members—cruel, full of killing and violence."
Hearing this, Kane paused for a moment, then a satisfied smile curved at the corner of his mouth.
He pressed his forehead against mine, his voice full of amusement, "Say more things like that to praise me in the future. I love hearing it."
Kane's directness made me laugh, "I thought someone like you would be tired of hearing other people's compliments by now."
But Kane looked at me seriously and said, "To me, you're not other people. You're my dearest wife, and of course, as a man, I'd like to hear my wife's praise."
Kane's words made my face flush.
I nodded and said to him earnestly, "Then I'll praise you more often from now on."
Kane laughed. He looked at me and said, "It's getting late. I'll have Bandel bring your mother's ashes back, and then we'll find a priest to give her a proper burial."
Kane's arrangement was exactly what I wanted. I nodded and closed my eyes while holding him.
I could feel Kane's hand gently patting my back. Soon, I became drowsy and closed my eyes.
I dreamed of my mother again.
She held me in her arms, her voice as gentle as always, "Dear, thank you for everything you've done for me, but what you should do most now is live your own life well. I can see that Mr. Moretti loves you very much."
Being held in my mother's arms, my heart was full of contentment.
Hearing my mother's praise of Kane, I smiled and nodded, "Yes, Mother, he really does love me, and I'm very happy to have met Mr. Moretti."
If I had met someone else, that man might have tortured and abused me, together with Luca.
After all, given my living environment, meeting someone like Mr. Moretti was very rare.
"Mom, Mr. Moretti said he'll find a suitable cemetery to bury you properly, and I'll visit you often with him from now on."
I looked up, gazing longingly at my mother's face.
I don't know why, but I had a feeling that after this time, maybe I wouldn't be able to dream of my mother so often anymore.
She looked at me and nodded with a smile.
In the haze, I also saw the figure of a man, but it was too blurry.
I asked in surprise, "Who is that man standing in the distance who won't come closer?"
My mother looked back and showed a happy expression, "That's your father."
Maybe because I had never seen my father, even though he stood there in the distance, I couldn't see what he looked like.
I stared at him, my eyes gradually becoming moist, "So Mom, are you going to heaven with Dad?"
My mother looked at me and nodded gently, "Yes, because you became a nun, God is allowing me and your father to go to heaven."
I looked at my mother happily, but corrected her with a serious face, "Mother, you can go to heaven because you're a kind and upright person, not because I'm a nun."
Hearing this, my mother's eyes became moist again.
She held me tightly in her arms, "Dear, I hope you'll always be this happy. Your father and I will bless you."
Compared to my mother's reluctance, I was very happy.
I even actively pulled myself out of her embrace and waved at my father standing in the distance, "Father, take Mom away quickly and go enjoy your happiness together."
Hearing my words, a blush appeared on my mother's face.
Just as my mother was about to leave, she suddenly turned back and said to me, "I just remembered something. When you were just born, I think I had already met Mr. Moretti."
I stared at my mother in shock.
Just as I was about to ask more questions, her figure gradually faded away.
I was swallowed by a bright light and could no longer find my mother's figure.
I opened my eyes and found it was already light outside.
Kane was still sleeping beside me, looking very peaceful and gentle.
I looked at Kane, thinking about what my mother said before she left.
Was it God's will, or just a baseless dream of mine?
As I was thinking, Kane opened his eyes without warning.
He looked at me with a smile, his voice magnetic and lazy, "What's wrong? You've been looking at me for quite a while. Are you captivated by me?"
Kane's tone was teasing.
He made me laugh. I rested my head on his chest, my voice somewhat tentative, "I just dreamed of my mother."
Kane's hand patting my back didn't stop. Instead, he asked with some curiosity, "What did she say in your dream?"
I said, half-joking and half-serious, "She said she had met you before, when I was just born."
Kane's hand paused. His expression inexplicably became somewhat serious.
Could this be true?
Kane sat up, and my head rose a few inches with his movement. We looked at each other.
Looking at Kane's expression, I knew that maybe what my mother said in the dream was true. When I was just born, my mother and I had already met Mr. Moretti.
Kane hesitated for a while before saying to me, "Maybe you weren't dreaming. Maybe your mother really told you this in your dream."
I grabbed his hand, my voice somewhat urgent, "Have we really met? When was it?"
Kane looked at my expression and told me a story from long ago about him and my mother.
Although it was just a brief encounter, Kane remembered my mother's kindness.
I finally understood why Kane wanted to marry me.
I blurted out unconsciously, "So the person you said you liked before was me? When did you start liking me? After all, I was just a baby when we first met."
