Chapter 213 - Restless
Chapter 213 - Restless
Safe to say, I couldn't sleep.
My brain was running too many emotions at once, and in frustration, I kicked my sheets to the floor. Huffing, I sat up on the edge and groaned, my head falling into my hands.
I felt so tired but so anxious. I couldn't get the fact that four hours from now, things would be very eventful out of my mind. It was almost midnight now, but I felt so scared, tears brimming in my eyes.
Throwing a glance at Raphael's sleeping form beside me, I brought myself to stand, sniffing away the feelings before making my way to the bathroom. I splashed water on my face in hopes of calming myself down, glaring at the plug in frustration.
I couldn't sleep. I couldn't get comfy. And when I finally began to drift off, I woke up in a cold sweat, haunted by the feelings of restlessness and desperation.
What was wrong with me? What was my body trying to tell me? I could just feel it. I felt something sickening and frightful lurking in the dark. A danger was waiting to be uncovered when the lights came on. I wasn't sure if it was my anxiety or the Lycan part of me. My mind was a frazzled mess, and I wasn't sure what was coming. I just hoped it wasn't a monster lurking in the shadows or anything. I needed peace. I was tired of fighting enemies who tried to bring harm to us. It wasn't too much to ask for some moments of happiness and tranquility. But all these feelings just sum up to something unpleasant getting close, and I feared for it.
I glared at myself in the mirror, my eyes red and puffy with tears and lack of sleep. I frowned as I watched my pupils begin to glow silver, my wolf, Lux, forcing her way forward. My eyes narrowed, and I felt the shimmer of her energy hum along my skin. I figured she was trying to comfort me, reassuring me that everything would be alright, and if something eventually happened, she would be beside me through it.
'Always here, Camila.' She mumbled, blinking back at me in the mirror.
She fell away gently to the back of my mind, and I could envision her curling into a ball in her usual spot in my mind. I sighed and decided it was best I go back to the bed and make sure of Raphael's embrace. If I could get comfortable in it and inhale his scent, I'm sure that it would ease me off this tension a bit and make me fall asleep.
I could hear my heart racing with exertion as I stood, my breath heaving through the quiet night. I could hear his gentle hum coming from the room, indicating that he was still sound asleep, and with a sharp intake of breath, I made my way to him.
I turn off my sink, stepping out of the bathroom to make out his figure on the bed as he lies facing me on his side. The duvet had been thrown to the floor, a light silk sheet now covering his curves.
I turn to shut the bathroom door, wincing as it clicks loudly. I begin to turn around, taking a few steps towards the bed, when I see two honey-colored eyes staring back at me. Despite the beautiful color of his eyes, the darkness and stillness of the room set me on edge. I felt the hairs on my arms rise with goosebumps, his gentle gaze holding me.
“Are you just going to keep on staring at me? Or are you coming back to bed?” he grumbled.
I let out a large breath and nodded, making my way over to the bed. I kept my eyes on him as I walked around the bed, settling myself into it. I lay down on my side, shifting close to him and wrapping my arm around his torso. My front was pressed against his back, and I tried to snuggle closer into the warmth of his body when the bed shifted under our weight. I watched as he lifted his arm and turned to face me, his arms coming around me. He pulled me into his front, wrapping the sheets around me in the process, and I finally snuggled into his chest, breathing in deeply. I finally felt myself begin to settle, my muscles relaxing into the mattress.
“Is everything alright?" He asks as he wraps his arms around my torso, his long legs curled so his knees touch mine. He buried his face into my hair, and I nodded, smiling in contentment with my eyes closed.
“With you here with me, I'm better.“ I replied, giving him an indefinite answer. I didn't want to talk about the reason for my previous lack of sleep, as it could ruin the peacefulness I just found. I promise to talk about it with him tomorrow, though. Thankfully, he didn't press on about it and just hummed in response.
As I felt my body relax to the comfort of my mate, his deep breaths told me he was already drifting back to sleep, and that lulled me into a sense of serenity as well. I found myself matching his rhythm as I succumbed to sleep.
