EPILOGUE - ROSALIE

EPILOGUE - ROSALIE
I wake up in a sweat. The covers are clinging to me and, for the first time in forever, the arms of my mates feel suffocating, not comforting.

I whimper, trying to get comfortable, and then something sharp hits me and I gasp, kicking out, suddenly wide awake.

“Rosalie?” Cain murmurs half asleep, but Aeron is already there, pulling the covers back, showing what my body already knew, but my mind is only just cottoning onto.

It’s wet, soaking between my legs. My waters have broke.

I look across at Aeron in shock, but he just smiles back.

“You’re in labour.”

“But it’s too soon.” I gasp.

Cain picks me up, scooping me into his arms. “No, it’s not.” He replies. “These are Lycan pups remember.”

I nod, leaning into him. For a moment, I’d forgotten that part, forgotten that Aeron and Cain were Wolves, that any of this world existed and that I’m not having human babies. I’m having pups. Lycan pups at that.

“Where are we going?” I ask, looking around as Aeron rushes ahead and Cain carries me through the deserted Residence.

“To the infirmary.” Cain replies.

I wince as another contraction hits.

“We’ll get Axel to give you some pain meds.” Cain says and I can hear the hint in his voice, as if he’s feeling it too. As if all three of us are sharing this pain together.

He carries me into a room. The gurney is in the middle and Axel is stood, smiling with Lexie the midwife next to him. Aeron is already pacing and for a second, I let out a chuckle.

“What’s so funny?” Aeron asks.

“If this is a long labour then you might actually learn some patience for once.” I reply.

Cain laughs but Aeron just shakes his head and then another contraction hits and I flinch feeling like it’s some sort of karma.

“It won’t be a long labour, Luna.” Axel says. “Not with Lycans.”

I look from him to Lexie who’s giving a sympathetic smile. “What does that mean?”

“It’s just not how it goes.”

“How do you know that?” Cain asks as he lays me down and then sits right behind me, supporting me exactly the way we’ve practised for weeks now.

“I did my research.” Axel states. “I wasn’t going to risk anything where the future heirs of this Pack are concerned.”

“Not just this Pack.” Aeron says kneeling by the bed, taking my hand, soothing me as much as Cain is starting to.

“If anything happens…” I whisper.

He brushes my hair back from where it’s stuck to my forehead with sweat. “Nothing is going to happen. You’re safe. Our pups are safe.”

I lean over and kiss him, maybe now’s not the moment but I don’t care. And then another contraction hits, and I half cry, jerking in Cain’s arms. They’re getting closer. A lot closer. And a lot worse too.

Lexie steps up, shifting my nightdress back, moving my legs so that I’m spread wide open. If I wasn’t in so much pain, I’d be mortified to be sat like this.

“She’s already fully dilated.” She says more to Axel than to anyone else.

“It’s time to push.” Cain says softly.

I nod, gripping Aeron’s hand so tightly I fear I might break it, and then, as the next wave hits me, I act on instinct, my body thankfully taking over so I don’t have to even think about it.

I let out a growl, pushing as hard as I can. I know the baby will be small, smaller than a human because a lot of his growing will be done after, but by God does it still hurt.

“That’s a good girl.” Aeron murmurs.

“You’re doing so good.” Cain says kissing the side of my head.

I push again. I keep pushing. Lexie and Axel are talking, I don’t hear their words but as the first of my pups is born it’s not Lexie who delivers him. It’s Aeron. I don’t know when he moved, when he dropped my hand but as he stands, holding our son in his hands, the look on his face makes my heart flip.

“Our beautiful boy.” He says looking at me.

I bite my lip, my face streaming with tears I didn’t know I was crying.

“Here.” He says, bringing him to me and I stare in wonder at the tiny creature we made. He looks like Aeron. His little face is all screwed up as he wails with all his might.

“Our son.” I whisper.

He leans down, kisses me, and, for a second, I forget that there’s two of them. Two pups to birth.

But nature reminds me all to soon of that fact as another contraction writhes through me. I cry out, just as Cain moves, as he slips away from behind me.

“Don’t go.” I beg.

He leans down, kissing me, as I feel the warmth of Aeron embracing me from behind.

“We’re not going anywhere, Pet.” Aeron says as he’s now sat where Cain was and Cain is now there, between my legs, ready to help birth our second pup.

“Push, Rosalie.” Cain says gently.

I lean back into Aeron, trying to ignore the pain and the heat, and I push. I push as much as my body will allow.

Our second pup comes so quickly, as if he’s hot on the heels of his brother. Cain holds him up, his face staring at amazement, and then just as Aeron did with our first, he brings him to us, letting us see him. He looks almost identical to his brother except he has a patch of reddish hair on his head which I know he gets from my side. The Sullivan side.

“Our boys.” I say grinning.

“You need to decide names.” Axel says.

I look at Cain and Aeron. We haven’t discussed names. After everything we went through, I didn’t want to jinx anything, so I refused to even have the conversation though I know it was ridiculous.

“What do you think?” Aeron says.

I shrug. “What do you think?” I reply.

Cain leans across the bed with our second born as Lexie passes our firstborn for me to hold. He feels so light in my arms. So fragile.

“How about Ryker for this one?” Cain says.

I nod. Ryker is a good name. And as I look at my son it seems to suit him.

“And Adriel for our firstborn.” Aeron says.

Cain stiffens a little, and then nods.

“What does that name mean?” I ask, looking between them because clearly it means something.

“It was our grandfather’s name.” Cain says.

I frown slightly. Surely there’s more to it than that.

“It’s a family name.” Aeron states. “Every Adriel in our bloodline has been a fighter, a leader, a trailblazer almost.”

“I guess that suits.” I reply. “Seeing as he’s going to be the Lycan King.”

We all glance at him. This tiny bundle in my arms. Our entire future, the entire future of the Werewolves will rest on his head. It’s a lot of responsibility for one person and in this moment, I think it really sinks in. My poor child will never have true freedom, this role will consume his life, consume everything.

“He will be a good King.” Cain says.

“And we will be here to support him, all three of us will.” Aeron adds.

“As well as his brother and any future pups we have.” Cain states smiling.

I nestle back into Aeron. Yes, we will protect him, and support him. All of us will. But not only us, this entire Pack will. Because that’s what it means, that’s what being part of this Pack means, we have a bigger family, a whole support network.

There’s a knock at the door and we all look up as Orion pokes his head around it.

“May I come in?” He asks.

“Of course.” I say. Over the last two months we’ve been steadily building a real relationship, a real friendship, I trust him now as much as I trust my mates.

I hold Adriel up for him to see. “Your first grandson.” I say.

“One of many, I hope.” He replies smiling.

“As many as Rosalie wants.” Aeron says wrapping his arms around me, being that teddy bear that his mother told me he would be.

I sigh leaning back, letting the exhaustion take me. Our family has grown, and yet now that I’m looking at Adriel, I want more pups, not just to keep him safe, but to keep him grounded, to ensure he will always be surrounded by people who love him for who he is, not what he is.

“We will all do that.” Cain murmurs.

I look up at him, at how he’s cradling our second son. “I love you. I love you both so much.” I say.

These mates of mine have saved me, have given me a life that I didn’t even know I wanted, and now they’ve given me a family. Our family. I pull Aeron’s arms a little tighter and slowly drift off with a smile on my face.

THE END

This is the end of the first book in this series. The second book is called the Lycan Inheritance, and the first few chapters are up now. This book follows Adriel, all grown up and now the Lycan King. Rosalie, Aeron, and Cain are still in this book so you’ll see more about how their relationship has grown and developed.

Here’s a little tease for what’s instore with the next one:

I’m a girl without a Wolf. Sister to the future mate of the Lycan King himself.

For my entire life, I’ve lived in her shadow, in all my family’s shadow. An outcast or as good as. But the day the Lycan King ascends his throne, our Pack is attacked, and everyone is slaughtered.

Everyone except me.

For months I hide out like some feral creature in the jungle, only one day humans find me and I’m dragged before the Lycan King. But when our eyes meet I realize he is my mate. Not my sister’s.

Mine.

Only, there is a Wolf here, sat beside him already, a Wolf pretending to be my sister, claiming she is cursed so their bond will not form. And Adriel, King of the Lycan’s, seems torn between the mesmerizing creature who has her claws so deep into him, and me, his true mate.

But how can I convince anyone to choose a Wolfless girl, let alone the Lycan King himself?
