Chapter 331 Trying

“When she eventually told Lucy and Lucy told me, it happened to fall on a date when I was in the hospital for the injury on my leg. There was no way I would have been out because I was in surgery and I didn't wake up until three weeks later. When Lucy realised, she apologized to me and came back home. I forgave her. I didn't blame her one bit.
“Alisha is manipulative. When she noticed that things were good again, she came for me. Lucy had to travel for some work. One night, I came back and found her in my home in nothing but lingerie. She climbed in through the window. I didn't even want to hear what she had to say before I asked her to get out. She cried and begged, saying that I wasn't being fair with her and that it wasn't fair that Lucy had to get everything she'd ever wanted. She said that Lucy didn't have to know what was going on between us and that we could keep it a secret.
“The fact that she had lied against me before just made me even more angry and since she didn't want to leave, I dragged her and threw her out of the house. That was the end of their friendship.”
I had so many questions.
“Did Lucy say why she let Alisha get away with things? I mean, she knew that Alisha wasn't a good person, why didn't she cut her off?”
“My wife was a good person. She trusted people, especially Alisha. She always had issues keeping relationships with people because of her job and the fact that he didn't know how to show affection. Alisha had been with her for years. I guess she didn't want to lose the only friend she thought she had. Sandy was more of a friend to her than that witch was!”
Things were slowly coming together.
“Did you ever tell Lucy what Alisha did?”
He scoffed.
“Even better. I recorded it. When I set the phone down, I turned on the recorder and played it to her. That was the night their friendship ended. I remember Lucy marched over to her house and came back an hour later fuming. I didn't see Alisha after that.”
“But then if they were not friends, why did you call Alisha when you couldn't find your wife?”
“Because there was no one else to call. She told me that she was going on a vacation with her friends. I knew that she didn't have any friends. Hell, I even thought she'd invite Sandy. I called Sandy first and she said she didn't know where Lucy was if she wasn't at home. That's when I didn't have a choice but to call Alisha. She didn't even pick up at first and then she called me back and told me where she was.”
I should have brought a notepad to take note of what he was saying. I didn't think he'd say this much though.
”What made you first suspect that Lucy was cheating on you? What did you see?”
I wanted him to mention the picture.
“That night when I caught Alisha in my house, when she was at the door, she said that I was rejecting her for a woman who was out with another man. As I said, Lucy was out for work. I told her to cut the bullshit. Subconsciously, I started suspecting Lucy. When she got back, I started to watch her every move, check her phone. That's when I found out about Tobias.”
“You know about Tobias?”
He nodded.
“But I didn't know if they were sleeping together. I could only speculate. They only spoke through calls. When I asked her, she said that it was nothing but he'd always call her late at night. What was I supposed to think?”
Alisha had tricked him into making up a lie for himself.
“So you didn't see any picture of a man and ask her about it?”
He shook his head.
“Not at all. If I had seen a picture, then I would have known for sure that she was cheating. That is enough proof.”
I couldn't believe this. Then why would Lucy take a picture to Alisha and say that she should hide it for her?
“Tim, I have to tell you that all the answers that you've given me today have gone against everything that I've been led to believe since I started this investigation. I'm sorry I'm taking up most of your time but I have one last question.”
He nodded.
“You said Alisha climbed in through the window to get into your house. How big is your window?”
I had been there but I couldn't remember how big it was.
He stood up and walked over to the wall. With a stone, he marked two places and drew the window.
“I know that because I built our house and I remember the measurements.”
The window wasn't too big and I was very sure that I couldn't climb through it.
“Tim, the window I saw in your house was high off the ground. How did she manage to get in?”
He laughed.
”That was the least of things Alisha could do. She was really flexible. She's a contortionist. Went to the Olympics. She could have easily climbed in through that window and a whole lot more.”
I couldn't help the laughter in my belly. This was funny.
“Tim, you have no idea how much you've helped me. Did you and Lucy ever have any kids?”
I saw how sad he became and feared that I might have touched a nerve.
“We got pregnant once but she had a miscarriage. It almost killed Lucy because she lost so much blood and there were complications. She almost lost her womb. I told her that I didn't mind not having kids but she wanted them so bad. She loved children so she kept trying.”
