Chapter 26
Charlotte was scared. This statement was quite confusing. If it was intended to be a sarcasm, it would be serious trouble.
But Amy didn't care. She went on to deliver what she had to say.
"Yes, Luna…" Amy replied. "If you had followed me now, you will have to wait for the Alpha and the kitchen maids to serve the food. I am among the kitchen maids so I know this. Getting the Alpha on seat for breakfast would still be in about one and a half hours from now."
Charlotte glanced at Claire after Amy had made her statement. Charlotte was expecting an anger look but she couldn't find it. It now dawned on Charlotte that Claire hadn't made the statement to be a sarcasm. It was only a normal statement which a curious normal person would likely say.
"It's fine!" Claire replied. "Amy, I think you should go back to the kitchen department. Charlotte and I have some other things to talk about."
"Alright, Luna!" Amy replied. "I will do so right away."
Amy opened the door and left the room immediately. She hurried out like ten devils were after her. Claire didn't know why but she didn't seem to care anyway. After Amy was out of sight, Claire went back and sat on the bed.
"Charlotte!" Claire called after she had sat properly on the bed.
"Yes, Luna!" Charlotte replied. Both of them seemed to understand themselves now.
"Listen Charlotte…" Claire began. "With all I have done today, do I act like the Luna you used to know?"
This question shook Charlotte. It was quite hard for her and she didn't know whether to say the honest truth or tell a satisfying lie to Claire. This was a hard one as it could mean punishment for Charlotte. She had to be careful and smart at the same time.
But Charlotte knew what to do. She was going to step up her intelligent acts. She would use her senses.
"I can either tell a honest truth or a satisfying lie here…" Charlotte began. "Choose your choice, Luna! I will provide an answer based on what you choose."
This got Claire laughing. The thought of this pushed her to laugh the more.
"Very well…" Claire began. "First of all, do you think I would really want you to lie to me? Tell me the answer to that question as I am really curious. It will help me know the kind of person you think I am."
"Well…" Charlotte began to say. "I think you would want me to be honest here. Am I right?"
"Sure!" Claire replied. "No one would love to be told a lie. Everyone wants the truth!"
"I don't think so…" Charlotte said accidentally. She had the perks to argue with the Luna which was something very wrong to do especially because Claire didn't seem to want that.
But Charlotte couldn't stop this. She had already said it and she couldn't take it back. Moreover, Claire heard that and she grabbed it instantly.
"What do you mean? Why don't you think so?" Claire asked carefully. She was expecting a very quick reply since she seemed to be quite in a hurry.
"Oh! Don't mind that, Luna. That was a slip of tongue. Let it go, please…" Charlotte said quickly. Her tone changed while saying this. She was covering the truth and making the truth look like a lie. This was a wrong thing to do but what could Charlotte do?
Nothing!
Why?
It was all because Charlotte wasn't dealing with those on the same rank with her. The person she was talking about here was the Luna of the pack. Charlotte was only a maidservant in the mansion where Claire was the lover of the Alpha.
"I think I will have to convince you otherwise!" Claire began to say now. She was addressing Charlotte. "I am most definitely sure that you are talking about something very important here! Do not be shy! Tell me about it!"
"But you might get angry…" Charlotte shouted. Then she realized who she was talking to. This made her lower her voice. "You might get angry at me, Luna. My speech might sound offending to you."
Claire understood what Charlotte was talking about and she knew what exactly to do. Claire gazed at Charlotte and offered comforting words.
"It's okay, Charlotte. Don't be too hard on yourself! I will make a promise here…" Claire continued to say. "If you tell me what's bothering you that you are afraid to tell me, I promise not to punish you for it. I will be totally lenient on you even if it's something insultive."
"It's not insultive…" Charlotte noted.
"Then that makes it easier to say for you, right?" Claire said confidently. "Go on and say it! I won't hurt you!"
"Alright!" Charlotte began. "Actually, I wanted to tell you something when you noted that everyone wants the truth. It's not something harmful but I was afraid to tell you but it might be as if I am criticizing you or arguing with you which isn't right judging by the position your hold in this pack."
"Is that it?" Claire asked carefully.
"Yeah…" Charlotte replied softly.
"Go ahead! I am listening to you!" Claire said slowly. She had reassured Charlotte well enough.
"Actually…" Charlotte began to say. "You might not know this but it's not everyone in the world who wants people to tell them truth. At times, normal people like you and me wants people to lie to them. Like it's often said, the truth is bitter and people finds it difficult to hear and assimilate it. I am sure you will agree with me that sometimes, you would want not to believe some things. You would appreciate a lie at such moments…"
Claire could understand what Charlotte was saying. It made a whole lot of sense.
"I think you're right…" Claire said. "Thinking about it right now, it doesn't sounds so harmful!"
"You mean it?" Charlotte asked.
"Sure!" Claire replied. "I also think both of us would be great pals!"
